It’s a lot of money, but I’d rather overpay on a three year deal than do a longer deal for less annually where the pitcher is in his late thirties and a liability at the end of the deal

Former AL MVP Josh Donaldson announces his retirement.

That 15-16 Jays team really did flame out fast. Sure, lots of guys were old anyways, but that team doesn't have many guys left in the majors.

It's also been 8-9 years which is crazy to think how even a guy in his mid 20s on that teak is in his early-mid 30s now.

You certainly don't have to like him, but he's got a solid track record of getting his guys paid.
Don't like him. I also believe he didn't get his clients anything more than they earned and deserved. And could have gotten the same service from other agents. But if these guys want to believe Boras is responsible for getting them more than they deserved and wouldn't have gotten same on their own merit, well I'm inclined to let those players believe what they want. No skin off me if they can't believe in themselves.

That's mostly fair. But the Strasburg, Rendon, and Bogaerts deals in particular have aged like milk, so I think it's fair to give him a little bit of credit for working his magic to get those teams to pony up.

That's why I want to know the holdout comparison more than anything.

Boras guys signing in December or January for top dollar could be just guys signing for how much teams want to pay.

But the holdouts that you see much more from his clients than others, let's see how well those have all gone down over the years.

So…are we really going to see the reigning NL CY winner not be signed before the season starts? Say whatever you want, but that isn’t how you want your financial system to work in any sport.

As much as I dislike Boras, when Blake Snell is ready to play ball, he will. Boras works for Bell, not the other way around.

Now I want this to happen with Votto just following along the Jays bus while shouting at the guys

Votto also wearing #37 at ST but told fans don't get attached to it because he might not keep it if he makes the team.

It makes people wonder if Jays retire #19. They've only retired numbers for guys in the HOF as a Jay which is why it'd be weird if they suddenly did this one (since Bautista isnt a HOFer), although Molitor did also wear #19, even if he's most known for #4 and in Milwaukee and McGriff wore #19, though more known for #29 elsewhere. So perhaps they retire the number and honour all 3 guys at once for it?

Toronto should have retired #37 the moment Dave Stieb retired. No justice no peace

The city as a whole has always been weird about retiring numbers. Other than when one of the Leafs top player died decades ago, the teams in this city never really retired anything until Alomar (though even that's been unretired for obvious reasons), and then eventually the Leafs once they got new ownership and gutted their management a decade ago, Jays added Halladay after his HOF too. Raptors could very well do it next year too. Might be controversial to some, but it has to be Vince Carter.

Stieb is one of those guys who if he was around during analytics days would be appreciated more. 1.4% of voting in his only ballot year for a guy who was a 7 time all star and had the highest WAR in 2 of his 5 years he recieved Cy Young votes (was top 3 in WAR the other 3 seasons), and had a higher WAR than guys who won the CY Young in some years he never got any votes.

Fingers crossed it's nothing. If it is we are screwed. The one pitcher we absolutely can't lose for a long period of time.
