Of course, but it's unheard of for a player to be a 30 HR hitter and then to hit his prime and all of a sudden become a 60 HR hitter. You slam on McGwire, but he hit 49 HR's his rookie season (when he was "thin"). That's more than Sammy ever hit in a year prior to 1998. So it's not like Mac never had the ability or power to do it. You also mention age. Mac is ONLY 5 years older than Sosa. It's not that big of a gap. I'm not standing up for Mac because I think he's guilty. However, there's no doubt in my mind that Sammy has used 'roids or HGH at some point in his career.

People want to believe what they want to believe and that's fine. For many years, I would've argued until I was blue in the face that there weren't many players on steroids in baseball. Ya know what? It hit me a few years ago how dead wrong I was.

No, it's not predicated on a steady decline, but CONSISTENCY...

Everyone who uses players as examples... Ryan, Clemens, (Randy) Johnson... you're using players who have ALWAYS excelled at their craft! They did not all of a sudden break the record for wins by a pitcher or K's in a season by a huge margin.... There's a difference....

I think the point the guy above was trying to make is that Randy,Nolan,Clemens, Satchel Paige...all didnt seee a substantial decrease in their skill of power pitching just as bonds has not declined in his overall game...htting over .300 with 35HRS a year...which bonds has always excelled at....

Pared if Bonds continues to hit 40+ a year for 2 more years would he gain credibility to you??With the drug testing now enacted?

the single season HR record is still 61
the all time HR record will always be 755.


Its a shame that government has to get involved in this but MLB knew that they had a problem 10 years ago and chose to do nothing. The player's union though it was more important to chisel another concession from management rather than agree to an effective steroid policy that would protect those they represent.

There is plenty of blame to go around in this whole fiasco, but in my mind the main culprits are not the players who used, the dealers who supplied, or the fans who pretended it was not there.

In my mind the main archetiects of this sorry state of affairs are the two men who's ONLY responsibility is the well-being of baseball and its players....

Bud Selig and Don Fehr.

Its a shame that government has to get involved in this but MLB knew that they had a problem 10 years ago and chose to do nothing. The player's union though it was more important to chisel another concession from management rather than agree to an effective steroid policy that would protect those they represent.

Yesterday put a big fat asterisk on everything McGwire, Bonds, and yes, Sosa, ever did in the 90s.

Officially or not, it's there.

Did you notice how careful Sosa was in his statements. Lots of loopholes if he gets busted later. Palmeiro had better have been telling the truth, or he could do time for perjury. I believed him.

It was SO great to see these players, Fehr, and Selig in a position where they couldn't just walk out like they would if the media grilled them like that.

I just want to see Barry Bonds sit there and take it. Then again, he'd take the fifth anyway, the spineless creep.

If you read my posts, you'll see I've consistently stated 37-40, and pointed out the fact of his statistical LEAP. Maybe you've taken it differently, but I've been consistent in my point that at that age a leap in stats is not common, especially at his rate, coupled with these allegations....
