What is your take on the Congress and MLB?

Just curious.

Quite honestly, I'm happy there is government intervention. Steriod is a drug, and the way the MLB is taking it lightly, I do feel there needs to be a third party making sure that this is being addressed as seriously as possible.

Conversely, there should be similar intervention with the NBA or any other major sports organization. The NBA is VERY lenient on drug use, primarily marijuana, and that shouldn't be the case. If the government is going to intervene in MLB, it should be doing so in OTHER large professional sports organizations.

Your thoughts?

I think congress needs to concentrate more on being a watchdog over government spending and actually applying some checks and balances over blind committment of taxpayer funds to military operations designed to overthrow foreign powers - because we're really treading into dangerous territory there.

You know, do the job that they were hired to do and that is spelled out for them in the constitution. Unfortunately with a hawkish administration and congressional majority that also has what should be a completely irrelevant interest in baseball, our kids are dying on in a desert somewhere and Raffi Palmero is taking up our government's time with descriptions of what kind of creamy substance he may have rubbed into himself at some point in the past.

I think they need to stay out of it. Seems like they can be having discussions on much more important issues than Steroids in baseball.

I think they waited too long to get involved. They should have been involved in the early 90's, because MLB can't police itself.

The steroids hearing is being conducted by the Committee on Government Reform. This Committee has seven sub-committees, one of which is the "Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources." LINK

The point is, these hearings are extremely relevant to the responsibilities of this Congressional Committee. The idea that "Congress has more important things to worry about" is, quite simply, wrong.

I think it is quite right though, as this is a "private" business who should be allowed to police their own actions IAW the law of the land.
