He basically criticised how we've got 150 lbs 2B hitting 400 ft+ homeruns. Something that he said was unheard of in his day and that Mantle was only able to do it because of his natural strength.

I think he was referring to Alphonso Soriano but I can't be sure.

I think it might be Brett Boone he's talking about.... but who knows?

I honestly dont understand the obsession with McGwire, he may or may not have used steroids, all this makes for is banter around the water cooler at work, or in this instance in a forum. Are we going to start tearing away records because of hunches? I am no huge McGwire fan, I think he did a lot of great things in his carrer, and not just playing baseball, but he did a lot of things in the community as well, and to be honest I find it funny that steroids supposendly makes a player great yet people like Jeremy Giambi admitted to taking them and what happened to him exactly? I think in the game of baseball it is all about hand eye coordination, if you cant read the pitch and react early enough you wont make it anywhere, whether or not you use steroids, but then again this is just my opinion.

What about Records by pitchers like Niekro, Sphan and others who used to cut, grease, and 'rub' down balls? Do you negate any of their accomplishments?

What about the report Gammons had on ESPN a few months ago on the number of pitchers who used roids to speed up the recovery process of arm injuries?? Basically giving them a competitive advantage. He also stated most pitchers could gain a couple mph's on their fastaballs...

I look at Bonds and say he was the best player to ever play the game. Only Griffey prior to his days in Cincy was in comparison. Roids help you with muscle strength, retention and recovery rate (injuries). Maybe you go from hitting the ball 420 to 433. But it doesnt help any bit in hand-eye coordination.

I personally think these guys mainly Sheff, Giambi, Bonds, McGwire all players who have been out due to injuries for large parts of seasons saw a HUGE opportunity to not only strengthen their bodies (possiby for statistical gain) but also for the fact the injuries that normally ould keep em out for a month here and there would now minimize it to 2-3 weeks.

Every era has had its problems and I think amphetamines which was a chronic problem in the early 70-80's still in many ways still plagues the league today. Guys take the amphetamines to get through chronic back pains and minor injuries and also keeps them going for a full 162 games.

I find it funny how Schilling and Thomas lashed out at Canseco. To me they are just lashing out at him and saying what they are saying is like a guy said a page back that Canseco broke a code between players. But Schilling and Thomas know about steriods...but they are going to blame Canseco for talking about it. If players didn't want anyone to know or eventually tell something like this. They shouldn't have done it in the first place. Players have brought this upon themselves. Canseco has nothing to hide and it's getting old hearing people say Canseco is doing this for the money who cares if he is or isn't the fact is that Players took steriods and he's talking about it. Deal with it.

This hearing is good for the whole world to see what a bunch of liars Pro Atheletes can be.

As for a guy a page back as well. You say the Parents are to blame for that one kid, well yes it is but it's also the atheletes fault as well I would say it's about 50-50. But ahteletes are role models or are suppose to be role models to young kids and teenagers..so they can be blamed as well. I don't know why but kids can't see like the fantasy world the atheletes live in and what they do. So kids hear atheletes are talking steriods, so they believe it's ok for them to do it. Parents don't see what there kids bring home on a daily basis or what they do outside of there homes. What do you want Parents to do pat down there childern every time they walk into there house?

To say athletes are held 50-50 with the parents is insane. So I guess the thinking is that video games and movies also contribute to the murder rates around the country also? This argument has grown so old, its like an old cliche, blame anything and everything you can for your own parenting problems and nobody will blame you. How are athletes role models exactly? The parents should be their role models, not some athlete they see on television, and if the parents raised them correctly that would be the case. Unfortunatly in this day and age it appears it is much easier to blame someone else then look in the mirror and fix your own shortcomings, but I guess that is the norm these days.

The Garibaldis' kid was given creatine as a HS'er by the Angels and when he was at USC he was getting steroids and training from a USC trainer. In a situation like that it's kind of hard to put the blame all on the parents' laps.
