I admired lots of athletes as a child, but never did I consider them role models. My mom and dad are my role models.

I personally admired my favorite athletes a great deal while growing up. But I was taught by my parents that 'Just because someone else does something doesn't mean you have to also.'

I think many kids grow up admiring many athletes or movie stars...
Yet it is up to the PARENTS or some AUTHORITY FIGURE to instill in their children the rights and wrongs of life. You have to teach your kids some type of responsibility while they're growing up or else those admirations will roll over to teachers because their parents arent around

Thats the one thing I would think almost everyone can agree on, the steroid abuse needs to stop and the penalties need to get tougher. Hearing Selig state that public humiliation will cause players to stop using is crazy, how many players are in the paper for doing things like beating their wife, or getting caught doing drugs, or in some instances, soliciting a prostitute, you dont see them running away due to public embarassment. Not to mention look at the reception Giambi has received so far in regards to his admission of using steroids, lets face it, in most cases the MLB is considered a family and that family stays tight knit no matter what, and that also explains the hostility towards Canseco for his book and pointing out other players who have done steroids according to him.

I have a 12 year old cousin who IDOLIZES Torii Hunter. Simply idolizes him. Right down to the stance. Sports gets brainwashing for alot of kids. Maybe not you, but for some its their whole world.

He pointed out where Canseco said steroids are a good thing in the book for kids to be on, then pointed out the opposite remarks he's made today.

Now he's railing on McGwire.
