I kind of said that in jest but in any case, thanks for the analysis.

I never said a Great Role Model..Anyone who watches media and even sometimes ESPN has mentioned athletes are looked up as role models just like musicians or anyone in the public eye that kids look up to cause they want to be just like them..Well thats a news flash right there that what the kids see if what they want to be....Athelets are the ones setting this example for kids sayings its ok to take performance enhancing drugs. Kids want to make it big in the sports realm and to them in order to do that its to be like the pros.

I'm trying to keep up with all the messages here. But one that stuck out was how you guys are blasting a parent for blaming the players. Well you know what, when kids go out and play a sport, they try to immulate their favorite player. We as parents can say "Hey dont do drugs" "Dont cheat or steal", but those kids watch every move these players make.

Its a catch 22, go out and run for that flyball like Torii Hunter, but dont shoot up steroids like McGwire or Bonds. You want kids to copy these stars? with their hustle and dedication? of course. These parents dont want their kids doing these illegal things.............steroids.

Scuffing the ball, spitting on a ball or scuffing it does not compare to shooting a drug that can kill you. By far.

I cant even remember where I learned about the negative effects but it wasnt the parent(s). Maybe it was school? The point is that even then kids were informed about the stuff and had some basis for making a decision...and that was 10-15 years ago. If kid wants to drive a car off a cliff whos to be blamed for that? And what about drinking and driving? Its OK to make the kids themselves accountable for decisions they make. Its not like you suddenly become an informed adult magically on your 18th birthday, yet some people act like the kid should be off the hook in all situations merely bcause they were 16 or 17 and not yet 18. LOL. Cry me a river.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying the kid has no fault in this, I am saying that the athlete has no fault in this. Of course the child has the ability to make the decision in the end, Im simply trying to point out that the common athlete shouldnt have some sort of accountability tied to him because a kid died using steroids and there are rumors that the same athlete used them.

Kids only have role models other than their parents if they have bad parents to begin with.

I admired lots of athletes as a child, but never did I consider them role models. My mom and dad are my role models.

Who tells their kids that? If you tell your kid to play like that then youre likely his biggest problem? Nothing you said was a compelling justification for putting it on the athletes. If anything, people blaming the athletes with little to no proof can be a worse example for a kid...unless you want to raise your kid to be a lynchmob starter. LOL

But some kids see these guys making 100 million dollar contracts. Or what about the kids in poor latin countries that see their countrymen making 100 million dollars?? Of course they're gonna get influenced............but its wrong, and baseball has to stop it. And not with that sh*tty policy they have now.
