End of story in my book and unless the MLB decides to actually investigate and punish Bonds and others, then the only punishment I can think of is just not letting them in the HOF. I agree Rose is a lyer and broke MLB rules however I think there is a huge line between betting on baseball to make money and taking steroids to cheat and break extremely prestigious records. (namely the season and all-time HR record)
Gaylord Perry doctored up baseballs, as did a few others. Perry was his era's preeminent practitioner of the spitball, an illegal pitch.
Ty Cobb intentionally spiked people.
Whitey Ford was known to use the edge of his ring and the catcher's shin guard buckle to gain more movement on the ball. Or his use of mud on the ball.
All other shining examples of cheaters in the Hall of Fame. Oh, and what about pitchers? All this steroid talk is about hitters, and how (much) farther steroids let them hit the ball. What about pitchers who used steroids to gain and extra few MPH on the radar gun? What about diluted talent? 4 Expansion teams (Rockies, Marlins, Diamondbacks and Devil Rays) have been added since 1993 (hmm...about the time the 'bloated' numbers started showing).Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoatnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a ttoal jmulbe and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

All 3 would get my vote for the HOF. As for Shoeless Joe, those stats someone posted earlier was something I really didn't know before. Statistics don't prove anything of course, but it certainly does provide some appearingly damning circumstancial evidence. I'll have to hold my judgement on Joe.Comment

Well consider that 21 B, the rule that specifically forbids gambling, wasnt implemented until after the White Sox scandal. This rule is and has for sometime been posted all over major league clubhouses...so Shoeless Joes situation may be more applicable to whoever did steroids in the 90s and not Pete Rose, since Pete Rose did it after the rule specifically forbidding gambling was put in place. What Landis did would be like saying Giambis is banned except Shoeless Joe was found innocent in court. Perhaps a better comparison would be to say, it would be like Selig banning McGwire based on strong suspicion. If there was anyone who got a raw deal, it was Shoeless Joe.Comment
