Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

You know I'd be the first to tell you if that trade happened Petco Park would be burned to the ground not so much because of Peavy, but because fans here do not want to Adrian Gonzalez go. For whatever reason a majority of the people don't really care if Peavy is traded (especially for someone like Manny or Alex Rodriguez, trade rumors were also swirling on that one).

Personally, I think the Padres would be dumb to part with both. Gonzalez will improve over last season and was our best offensive player. He plays a gold glove caliber defense, something the Padres shouldn't throw away.

As for Peavy, no way do I want the Padres to break up the rotation with him, Chris Young, and Clay Hensley (look that guy up, yeah, he's good).

Now I've looked through here and saw a couple of speculated trade proposals.

    SD Padres trade:

    Brian Giles
    Khalil Greene
    Scott Linebrink
    Prospect

    For

    Manny Ramirez
    Willy Mo
In that trade, the Padres prospect they'd give up would be their best pitching prospect, Cesar Carrillo. Several people who follow the Padres closely have been hoping for Carrillo to be in the rotation to begin the season.

The reason why Kevin Towers would do this trade is to move Giles, get rid of Greene who has been a disappointment, and get rid of Linebrink while he still has value for a cleanup hitter and a guy with the power of Wily Mo Pena. I don't know who would get the best of that trade though.

    You re talking a..
    24yr old power hitting 1B
25yr old power pitcher who has established himself as a workhorse and ace
    and a prospect for...

34yr old power hitting lf who wants out
33yr old 3b who didn't hit anything worth a damn in the second half(.257)
    a potential ace
    and a mid-level prospect
If that trade were to happen, we don't give you a prospect. We have no use for Mike Lowell as we already have Kevin Kouzmanoff at third base and no way does he play second base for us. If KT is going to part with Peavy and A-Gon, we better get something more than just a mid-level prospect and a mediocre thirdbasemen even if the deal includes Manny Ramirez.

I really don't see this trade happening and if it does, I expect it'll be Linebrink, Greene, Carrillo, and maybe Wells traded (Jared Wells, another top Padres SP prospect) just for Manny Ramirez.

Sure, if you guys want to try and waive him again and get nothing in return.

Manny's a great player, but a rotation of Papelbon, Peavy, Matsuazaka, and Beckett if he ever gets his **** together for the next 10 years could be pretty scary.

Good news NYJets, Front Office held a meeting with season ticket holders and Peavy and A-Gon are in fact not going to be traded for Manny.

I'm sure everyone here can put two and two together with these Padres trade rumors for Manny when they also look at the other teams that are interested, Dodgers and Giants.

Dumb move. Nixon will likely get around 8 million in arbitration and no team will offer him that much meaning he'll probably accept it. While the sentimental side of me wants Nixon on the Red Sox, the rational side does not. We know Francona will end up playing him a lot with little regard for how well Pena might be producing. And with his defense eroding it makes little sense to have him strictly as a defensive replacement type who starts occasionally. And since its almost a lock Drew will be here, the Sox will have two pricey outfielders with a tendency to wind up on the DL for portions of a season.

The Red Sox did not offer arbitration to Trot Nixon. They did offer arbitration to Keith Foulke.

What a busy 24 hours for the Red Sox.

Last night for sure I thought Manny was gone.

J.D. Drew signs for 70 million

                Lugo signs for 36 million

Lester has stopped taking chemo treatments (THE BEST NEWS)

And Mannny probably won't get traded now.

9 mil a year for Lugo in a Rente-wreck sequel and we lose our 1st rounder to top it off.

I never understood the fascination with Lugo. He's a solid hitter but a liability in the field. Hopefully they know something we don't.

On the bright side, looks like we'll have a pretty solid lineup next year if Manny comes back.

Anyone think that Craig Hansen might get a shot at being our closer this year? I mean he has everything we you need to be a great closer he just needs to learn how to pitch.

I think he is probably one of our best options available for closer next year since there isn't alot on the market.

I also read that the Marlins are interested in David Murphy, the only thing holding up a trade is they can't agree on a pitcher the Red Sox would get.

Great idea. Let's hand over the most high leverage innings to a punk kid who doesn't even know how to pitch. If you want to see the Red Sox become the Boston Celtics, then by all means, this move would be great. I just think it is very unlikely that Hansen has magically cured all his problems this off season.

Hansen should be nowhere near the big leagues until he figures out his problems at AAA. To be honest, I think he is going to end up more like Ryan Wagner than Chad Cordero or Huston Street. I just haven't seen any improvement from him.

He got smacked around last year like a pinata. I don't expect enough to change for him to go from being batting practice to dominant. His stock has fallen big time. According to Peter Gammons, if the season were to start tomorrow Devern Hansack would be the closer.
