Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

    According to Gammo's latest:

No, the Red Sox did not offer Manny Ramirez for Brandon Wood, Howie Kendrick, Johan Santana and Chone Figgins. And they will wait until spring training to see who needs David Wells and Tony Graffanino, although the Rangers, Cubs and Devil Rays have approached Boston about the reliable middle infielder.
By Johan, he means Ervin. Where'd you here all this about the Adam Dunn spinoff? I doubt we could net the two top middle infield prospects in the game while gaining Dunn and Figgins. On a smaller, more realistic scale, it's good to hear Graff getting interest.

There should be a few teams in need of a utility man or inexpensive starter interested in Graffanino, just don't expect the Red Sox to get anything more than a middle-reliever or C level prospect for him.

The Dunn spinoff was just something i read in a rumor column somewhere, as i said pure speculation and Peter Gammons seems to have comfirmed the whole trade is nothing but that.

As for Graffanino, i could see him in Texas. The Rangers are going into spring training with Ian Kinsler, Mark DeRosa and D'Angelo Jimenez competing for the 2B job, i'm not sure about Kinsler but Graffanino would definitly be an upgrade over DeRosa and Jimenez.

Anybody else see that story in the Herald today about the Red Sox making a bid for Clemens? They've put together a video including fans basically begging for the Rocket to come back to Boston that they're going to show him. Sounds pretty clever, though I really can't see Roger leaving Texas.

Clemens coming back to Boston would be the picture perfect ending to an excellent career. I think he will give us 14 wins max. But I would still love to see him come back so that some fans can bury the beef they have with him

It's actually pretty brilliant marketing. The deal is that the team changes their name from the Yankees to Spinners. So there's gonna be a crapload of youth teams named the Spinners. It gets their name out there for very little cost. Do you honestly think people care that much about the rivalry?

Marketing yeah, but the devastating part made me roll my eyes.

Then again, I might be pretty devastated if I had to play for the Red Sox

That was a pretty funny article, but the first thing I said to a co-worker when I heard this story was that you can't buy exposure this good. Brilliant marketing for a small team that draws pretty well already...gorgeous field too, played there in highschool a couple times.

btw...who left the door unlocked again for these Yankee fans? ...

Yes, I do. People in this part of the country are sick in the head about baseball. I'm not joking either.

Growin up in Boston playin LLB, I can tell you I know of 5 kids who didn't play one year because they were selected by the Yankees. So he has a fair point, but yes... It is a GREAT marketing ploy.

So any new speculation or rumors on who we are getting for Wells? I just hope the damn trade goes through soon.

Nothing right now. The plan is to go to camp with Wells at this point and maybe deal him at the end of Spring Training.

If anything I see his stock dropping after ST. I mean he was arguably the ace of a team that went to the ALDS and pitched well after the injury and in every big game. At the very least, his stock will stay the same.
