I'm certainly with you on the use of Papelbon...

I really think, that maybe until July, Tito should try to only use him in save situations, or when they really need to get out of a late-inning situation, because I don't want Papelbon getting tired, or worn down, for August and September when we're really going to need him because he was being over-used in May and June.

Re: Boston Red Sox - 2006

I have no idea why Riske threw an 0-2 pitch right down the middle to Hillenbrand. I thought Foulke should have come in to start the 8th inning.

Good thing the right team won last night because Larry Young made a terrible call. I have no idea how he could call Molina's hit a foul ball. When the ball landed, chalk went up.

ManRam owns the Jays. The Red Sox's OF have yet to make an error this season but I thought Nixon should have been credited with an error last night.

What's the deal with that Tina girl on NESN saying Halladay isn't well known in the US? LOL

I thought Doc only had a decent outing last night. That was his "B" game. He had way too many flyball outs and had trouble keeping the ball down. Giving up only 3 runs in 7 innings to a team as stacked as the Red Sox is nothing to be ashamed about. I just think I've been spoiled.

Clement is awful. I believe he's going to make almost 10 mil next season.

Papelbon is one of the areas I don't have a problem with. The ultimate goal here is for him to be a starter and to do that he needs innings. He pitched 129 innings in 2004, 148 innings in 2005 so development wise, he should be in the 170 range this year. However, as a closer he's only on pace to throw 81 innings, about half of where he should be.

With his age and his arm, I don't think him wearing down is really a concern.

          Be happy...

if he had made the RIGHT call, it would've been a single and a completely different game, just like Molina himself said after the game, lol.

            David Pauley??

The Sox have decided on David Pauley to pitch on Wednesday in place of David Wells. Pauley has never pitched above Double-A but was in major league camp this spring and started against the Phillies in spring training. He went four innings but allowed a three-run homer to Chase Utley in the first inning.

I read on a message board somewhere that Pauley was an option, and I honestly thought it was someone who was mixing his name up with someone else.

                But whatever.

Scouting Report: Pauley mixes a low 90s fastball with good movement, an excellent changeup, and a top-notch curveball. Has 4th or 5th starter potential. Has been very consistent in recent seasons, with some flashes of brilliance. Struggled in MLB Spring Training in 2006. Needs to improve his control somewhat.

Probably just the optimist in me, but I'm excited to see this guy. If Aaron Small can put on the second half he did last year, then anything is possible.

Well that scouting report certainly gives off a little bit of hope, no?

We could use a 5th starter...

After looking more closely, he's the only real option. Lester would have been going on 3 days rest, Alvarez on 2. Pauley was the only other starter on the 40 man roster.

Chris Pauley has a 2.39 era in 10 starts in Portland, so he may not be a dog.

Mark Loretta is out of Tuesday's starting lineup after being hit in the left foot by a pitch during Monday's game.
Loretta will see a podiatrist during the current road trip. The Red Sox have Alex Cora starting at second base and batting ninth tonight. Coco Crisp is leading off and Kevin Youkilis is in the two hole. May. 30 - 5:14 pm et
Jeez. Good time to have Crisp back. Having the depth of Youkilis doesn't make missing Loretta's bat in the two hole that bad either.

A pic of Theo playing with Pearl Jam as he lost out on Clemens. That bum.

Yes, but we all know one pitch as a closer is not the equivalent of one pitch as a starter. I don't think Papelbon has been over worked at this point, but I do agree Tito has messed up with Riske.

Hopefully Pauley makes the most of his opportunity this week. Surely he can do as well as Clement did last night...

That sucks about Loretta. He's the hottest hitter on the club right now and the Sox need his bat. Hopefully its nothing serious and he is back for the Detroit series.

Is it bad that I sport wood when I get the NESN feed on MLB.tv?

Just as I posted this, the douches at MLB.tv switched to the Blue Jays feed.
