I agree with everyone here. If they win great, but next season and beyond is going to be great. Unlike the other team in NY I like the future of this team. I think next season we go a lot younger in the SP department. With Pelfry, Bannister, Maine, Perez, & maybe Humber I think the rotation is set for the next couple of years. If we can keep Glavine & get anything out of Pedro next year it will be a bonus. The bullpen will be awesome next season with Mota, Sanchez, Heilman & Wagner. That is why I think we should go younger in the rotation. I dont want Zito but would be ok with the Japanese pitcher or some other guy who throws hard. We do need a more long term answer at 2nd and figure out what to do with Millege. Either make him a starter or trade him to get a 2nd baseman or outfielder.

Alright fellas... what looks realistic in terms of pitching? As of right now, we don't have a single solid starter from last year... Glavine's free, Hernandez is free, and Pedro is hurt... and Trachsel is... well, he's Trachsel.

Well we dont have a 10 game winner locked up yet Pared but I think we have several young pitchers who looked ok last season. Glavine looks like a done deal and he will head the rotation. They will probably add one veteran starter and Suppan might be the guy depending on price. Bannister, Maine, Pelfry, Humber, & Perez all pitched some of last season and had varying levels of success. If Maine & Perez can build upon the playoff starts they would be solid 3-4 guys and mix in either of the remaining guys for the 5th spot. The bullpen looks strong when Sanchez comes back from his injury and while he was not lights out during the playoffs I trust Wagner to close out games. The one big questions is what do they do at 2nd and to they trade either or both between Millege & Heilman.

Well....I can see Hernandez coming back next year. Willie is high on him and I truly believe that Minaya listens to him.

Here is how I believe the Met rotation will look in 2007

Maine
Perez or Pelfrey(a Spring training battle)

Otherwise...

I think Omar might take a stab at Soriano for LF and Lugo for 2B

Glavine won't be able to negotiate with Atlanta until after Nov 20, once the Mets turn down the option. It sounds more and more that he may go back to them. Which it's ok with me. I rather try and sign Zito than keep Glavine.

Probable trade possibilities Omar should think about.

Heilman to Cleveland for Betancourt?
Heilman and Bannister to Chisox for Vazquez and minor leaguer?
Milledge and Heilman to Tampa for Baldelli?

i dont see why the Mets dont give heilman a shot to start... very strong young arm!! we all know lastings wont last much long in nyc.... off-season in baseball stinks though.. IMO

I really think now it comes down to how much money the Braves would offer him in a contract. Sure he wants to go back to play closer to his family, but I think if they offer him below market value he will take the Met offer and have a better chance at getting that ring. If the Braves offer him anything close to the Met offer I think he takes it at finishes out his career where it started and as long as the Mets find a veteran starter to replace him I am ok with that.

I'd rather have Vernon Wells then Soriano, in the outfield that is, since Valentine was signed.
Either one would be a nice grab, and both are said to be interested.
If we get either, I have a feeling we'd say goodbye to Lastings, which I'm not crying over.

But pitching wise, I see the rotation being:

Glavine
Zito
Hernandez
Maine
Perez

Which if you think about it, isn't as sold as you'd like it but,

Pedro
Glavine
Zito
Hernandez
Maine

Seems pretty formidable, if we get Zito we still need a 3 or 4 decent starter at least besides him...maybe Jason Johnson, Adam Eaton, or Gil Meche, I think they're all free agents.

That looks like a VERY deep staff with only two additions because Perez and Pelfrey can give you spot starts.
