Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
The Pirates season is fading fast,
fading fast,
fading fast.
The Pirates season is fading fast
and the All Star Game won't save it.
Mark Cuban please buy this team,
buy this team,
buy this team.
Mark Cuban please buy this team,
and turn it into a winner!
- Don't know why I have "The Wheels on the Bus" stuck in my head, but I do. I think it's gone now.
So I'm still interested in watching the Pirates when nothing else is on, but really, this is pretty bad. They didn't even look like they should be on the same field as HOU this weekend. Just terrible.
It doesn't get any better either with STL, PHI and NYM on the horizon. PHI should be the weakest of the 3, but I still expect to lose 2 out of 3.Comment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
Cuban should buy the bucos and the pens lol build the birds a new arena and take them to the promise land with sid, maf, and malkin (crosses fingers he is able to come over)
edit: joeboo, just think if the marlins move out west somewhere and they move to the american league the bucos would prob move right into the nl east. if that happens watch the bucos turn the corner and crap on my metsTwitch

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
Fiddy - I actually like the Pens outlook for the future. I don't think they're going anywhere. At least that's what the media heads lend us to believe around here.
The Island of Capris plan seems so good. It's just that Gov. Rendell has his hands all over this and I'm concerned with what type of political strings he might try to pull to get the plan he supports passed. At least that's what I'm hearing.
Don't worry. If the Pirates move to the NL East, they'll still suck!Comment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
Yeah.... So does this make us 5-17? What a disgrace.
I've had the game on in the background as I do other things. These guys are painful to watch.
I guess this weekend marks the start of football season. At least we still have that.
Someone also remind me why in the hell Tracy keeps sending Duffy and Randa out there. It's obvious to everyone that neither is playing well and in Duffy's case, needs some time in the minors. Randa is just past his prime. Sanchez should start, but I guess it's better to get 1 good pinch hit at-bat during a game than 4 during the game.Comment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
I don't understand Randa still being in there either. I saw something where Tracy had said that he likes having Sanchez coming in off the bench and it makes the bench stronger. I think someone should clue him in that that only matters on a GOOD team, not this one....
I only have the MLB package through the next couple of weeks (I had the NHL package so I could watch the Pens up here in Boston and they're on the same channel), so I only have a few more weeks of this pain....MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
NBA: Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic
NCAA: Penn State Nittany Lions, Boston College EaglesComment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
LGOP - Yeah I read the same thing about Tracy stating Sanchez makes the team stronger coming off the bench. It was also stated again in Dejan's Wednesday Q/A this week in the Post Gazette. You're right. It makes perfect sense on a winning team. It makes no sense on a team where the backup 3B is better than the starting 3B.
Sanchez was quoted as saying "I have no idea what else I can do to start" (not exact quote, but same jist). Well Freddy, you could start by asking for a trade. Otherwise, I don't know because he's done everything on the field that he can do.
Dejan also mentioned that others in the clubhouse feel the same way about Sanchez starting. Hmmm... Sounds to me like there are some disgruntled Pirate players in the clubhouse complaining to the media off the record.
5-18 after another loss today. That's 7 in a row.
So Pirates were down 3-2 with 2 outs in the 9th. Jose Hernandez comes off the bench and hits a game tying solo HR. Extra innings, right? Wrong. Roberto Hernandez pitches the bottom of 9. 3 singles later and it's 4-3 STL.
At least that's what I gathered from ESPN's gamecast. As much as I love baseball and the Pirates, the ineptness of this team and front office is enough to make me not care.Comment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
Yeah, my info came from Dejan in the Q/A. I could understand it if Randa was playing even OK, but there is no reason not to be playing Sanchez. At least give him a shot. If Casey didn't get hurt, Craig would probably be riding the pine as well...
What was even more disappointing for me today was that I had Mulder going in my fantasy league! At least if they're going to lose, let Mulder get the 'W'!!!!
Even though it is tough following the Pirates, I live in Boston (and have for 7 years) so I've taken to the Sox as my #2 team. I take a lot of shots up here for being a Pirate fan, but at least when they finally win (translation: when Cuban buys the team) I can say I've been with them through all of the losing...MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
I watched the end of the game today.
-Jose Hernandez didn't come off the bench, he started at 1st while Craig was in RF. Burnitz got the day off.
- My biggest gripe is that Hernandez got squeezed in a TERRIBLE way. I think Luna was up before Pujols and a 2-2 pitch that should have been strike 3 was a ball and he later singled. Then to Pujols, Hernandez was pitching extremely well had him in the hole 1-2 and laid a perfect fastball on the inside corner that the ump gave no love to. Paulino was upset and the guys in the both, as pro Pujols as they are, even were a little shocked. A few foul balls later you've got your game winner. The last 3 innings the ump was all over the place, and the Pirates were usually the ones getting the raw deal.Comment

Re: The 2006 Pittsburgh Pirate Thread
We didn't lose today!!!
Of course we didn't play, but that's just a small detail.
Karlos - I didn't know Hernandez started that game at 1B. Good to know.
I read this morning that the ump was shrinking the strikezone that last inning.....especially against Pujols. Not much you can do I guess. Just more bad umpiring in MLB. Seems to be a lot of that the past few years. Maybe he was a Seahawks fan?
I also saw that Roberto Hernandez was pumping out 97 MPH fastballs that inning. Damn. The old man can still bring it! Maybe he could teach Ollie something.Comment
