Re: The 2006 Save us Mark Cuban Thread

Yeah, Duke seems to be coming around recently. Definately not as great as last year, but that really wasn't possible. I still can't believe the new staff decided to mess with his mechanics after the year he had last year.

Glad to see Bautista getting more playing time. This is a kid that can flat out hit. I just wish the Pirates would pick him a position and stick to it. They claim he's the 3B of the future, but Sanchez is still hitting well. Maybe Bautista is more suited in CF/RF??

My hope is that once some guys are traded, that situation will iron itself out. Doumit might even get time in RF, but he's got to prove he can stay healthy.

Oh yeah, meant to post this a few days ago:

So how about Chris Duffy? He STILL hasn't reported to his AAA assignment. That's 3 weeks now that he's been MIA. I hate to speculate on this stuff, but I'm starting to wonder if he's not fighting off a drug addiction or some mental issue (depression?).

Looks like Duffy is heading back to the Bucs. He's going to start out back in Bradenton for extended spring training (how long do they extend spring training anyway!!!)

I hope something comes out as to why he went MIA....

Ironic that I posted about Duffy and the next day he comes back. I doubt we'll ever hear the real reason as to why he left. It seems very odd... I wonder if he was depressed or had to go to some clinic for addiction - drug? alcohol?

Anyhow, Pirates put on a good game last night. Ollie was actually pretty good. Carpenter was just dominant. 2-1 loss to STL. STL is now 21-4 against the Pirates since August of 2004!

Try posting about how you wonder when Cuban will buy the team or you wonder when the Bucs will go on a 20 game win streak. Your psychic powers may be the key to the Pirates turning this thing around!

I would rather see Bautista playing in CF than McLouth at this point. If they trade away Wilson, I wouldn't be surprised to see Bautista playing there in his place (along with Mr Whiff).

One other problem is there's nowhere else to play Sanchez on a consistent basis. Castillo hit another bomb tonight, so he's not going anywhere.

I think Bautista would be very good in CF. He seems to take excellent routes to the baseball and makes even some more difficult catches look easy. I've got no problem with him in CF and benching McLouth.

I think Sanchez has to stick at 3B. Randa can sit on the bench and be an occassional sub. If Sanchez can hit over .300 and have a good OBP, I'm fine with his lack of power. Castillo should make up for that at 2B.

Nice win tonight. Duke didn't pitch well, but he had 3 RBI's. Good to see a win like that.

I didn't think Duke was all that bad. That third inning had a lot of hits that were lucky bounces.

First off let it be know that I am a Reds fan not a Pirate fan.
Anyway are you guys happy with Casey at first? I read the other day that the Bucs want to sign him to a long term deal. I just dont get why they want Casey instead of C. Wilson at first. It took Cincy 5 years to figure out that Casey was a below average fielder with below average power. The guy hits into way too many douple plays and never hit in pressure situations for the Reds. Marty B. use to say he was the best hitter in the world with the bases empty and 2 outs! lol
Anyway back to my question as a Pirate fan do you want them to sign him to a long term deal?

Re: The Official 2006 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread

jake44np - I'm not a big fan of Craig Wilson. He's not much better fielding than Casey......if at all. He also strikes out way too often. Pirates management seems to feel the same way (which isn't always good thing ). He's got power, but he just's just too streaky of a hitter for my liking.

I'm not sure I like the potential Casey signing either. Maybe for 1-2 years to see if our big, power hitting 1B in AAA will further develop (40+ HR power, but also needs to cut down on K's as he'll K 190 times if given 500 AB's), but not for the reported 3 years at 18 million. Casey is slow and isn't a good fielder either. However, he does provide a gap to gap hitter who doesn't K often. That's something the Pirates need.

Casey's been injured so much of this year that I haven't been able to get a good feel for him. He seems to be declining fast, but his back injury might've caused some of this. We'll see.. I wouldn't be happy or sad if they re-signed him. We've done worse.

Re: The Official 2006 Pittsburgh Pirates Thread

So the Pirates have their makeup game with ARZ today. This is classic Pirates baseball:

4-4 in the bottom of the 9th with 0 outs.

Jack Wilson singles, Casey singles to move Jack to 3rd. Bay is intentionally walked to setup a force at any base. Things looking good and then..........

                        Burnitz comes up and K's.
                        Sanchez comes up and K's.
                        Castillo comes up and K's.

WTF? Seriously, does it get any worse than that? My goodness do these guys suck.

We got mauled by KC. We suck and Jim Tracy pisses me off more and more everytime I read one of his quotes.

I can't believe how utterly terrible this team is....

So, if you are the 2nd worst team in baseball and get swept by the worst team in baseball, does that actually make you the worst team in baseball??? I think we're on the verge of finding out....

I agree about Tracy. I don't think I've ever read a quote from him not blaming the loss on someone else. I think I really started noticing it the other day when he called out Jack Wilson. Wilson plays his behind off every play, and for the manager to basically call him out in the media was dead wrong in my opinion.

                              7-2 KC in the 6th.

Maholm got rocked and now Vogelsong is in.

So as long as this games continues this way, we can say we got swept by KC. It's official, we're the worst team in MLB......and it's not really even close. My goodness does this team stink.

Oh and for Tracy, way to play smallball in the 1st inning. Not a big fan of him or that theory. Especially when we've blown back to back 4-0 leads.
