    Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds

    1. There are a ton of veteran teams that don't win the World Series every season or even make it there for one. He's not the only one.

    2. The Hamilton and Patterson deals have nothing to do with each other so its pointless to talk as if they were based off each other. Hamilton was moved for PITCHING. As Reds fans you should have realized 3 good outfielders mean next to nothing as we always have 3 good ones.....and so does most of the league.

    3. I'm not a Patterson fan either. I think it should be Hopper or Freel in centerfield. However, Patterson was one of the top prospects in baseball at one time. If he doesn't produce Hopper or Freel will take his spot.

    4. Bruce wasn't exactly ripping it up in spring training and some reports say he shouldn't be an everday centerfielder and is more suited for the corner positions. Dunn and Griffey obviously have those spots hammered down unless either of them is moved for PITCHING. I don't see a big problem with Bruce starting the year at AAA.

    5. Its still Spring Training

Unless Fogg gets roughed up again or Bailey has a superb outing, it looks like the rotation is just about set:

      Harang
      Arroyo
Cueto (how awesome, a rookie in the #3 hole)
      Fogg (could be Bailey)
      Volquez

Man I can't wait for this season to start.

I don't know. But every Reds site has that rotation that I posted. I guess lately they have been pitching in that order and up until Fogg's last outing he was very good (had like a sub-2.00 era). But Belisle had a pretty good outing leading up to his last outing as well. So I don't know that it is set in stone yet but I would think that Belisle has to have a follow up good outing to squeeze himself back into the rotation consideration, after reading what I have read. Personally, I like Belisle and think he has a very good chance of being a good pitcher....maybe even as much as a #2 or #3 pitcher someday. So who knows and I am definitely in favor of Belisle before Fogg, but Fogg has been very good all spring with the exception of his last outing.

Nothing to apologize for, I happen to think differently though and think he can be a very good starting pitcher. Either way he is young and has time to become the pitcher he wants to be, whether it is in the pen or starting rotation.

In other news, Cueto was found to be human today. Against the Rays he gave up 3hits 5walks 1hr and 5er in only 2/3 of an inning. You had to figure it would happen at some point. I don't think it means anything though. Cueto will be a very very good pitcher and this shouldn't mean a thing for him making the squad and rotation.

I will support the team almost regardless of anything and that includes supporting the manager. But I sure as **** don't have to like him.
Dusty Baker did not send Jay Bruce down, Krisky did. I just read that Wayne doesnt think Jay is ready to be an everyday major league player yet. Its funny how everyone blames everything on Dusty. It is going to get really old all year long to hear everyone bitch about Dusty. Anytime they play bad he is going to get blamed.
Also Homer pitches again tonight, if he pitches well he may earn a spot in the rotation. And for the life of me I dont know why anyone would want Belisle to start for the Reds this year. He has been terrible all spring and is a below average major league pitcher.
Heres how I think the rotation looks now:

                4. Volquez
                5. Fogg

If Bailey pitches well the rest of the spring and Volques struggles, Bailey could replace Volquez and the #4 starter.

                      From Yahoo sports

Mar 23 CF Josh Hamilton parlayed a big spring with Cincinnati last year into an impressive, albeit injury-shortened, rookie season. But he's had an even bigger spring with the Rangers and, if he stays healthy, he seems ready to establish himself as a superstar. Hamilton reached base 13 consecutive times in one stretch (10 hits and three walks) and was hitting .512 entering the week. In addition, he's shown off above average range and a world-class arm in center field.

The guy will be luckly to play in 80 games this year, I would rather have a good young starting pitcher.

                            4. Volquez

I would love to have Bailey in the Rotation but not for Volquez...for Fogg. But Bailey HAS to have a good outing tonight to stay in consideration.

Now as far as Belisle is concerned, I gave you a very good reason last time I posted about this. Leading up to his last outing he was 2-0 with a 3.86era. That is not horrible by any stretch. In fact all he had was one bad outing all spring and that was his last outing where he gave up 8 hits and 7 er's in 3 IP. I admit...that is HORRIBLE. But you can't count that and then discount Cueto's outing the other day(or was it yesterday?). I know you don't like Belisle but the numbers speak the truth.

Last year he had 1 less win than Arroyo and about 6 less losses. But he had about a 1.00 higher era than Arroyo. Belisle is young still though and has the tools. If they give him a chance I believe he can still be a good #3 starter. But if not he will pitch out of the pen and that might be just as good anyway. But let's not look at Belisle and think he is their worst option at starting pitching because he had 1 bad outing all spring and then say he has been horrible all spring. It just isn't the case.

if Belisle could win nine or more games and come in with a sub-5 ERA I'd be satisfied with him in the rotation.

While I don't think our pitching staff is going to be blowing down the doors of opposing teams anytime soon, I've got to admit it's nice that we can finally argue about which pitchers are good enough to be in the rotation. It was only a couple of years ago when we were begging Dave Williams and Eric Milton not to suck.

I am so freaking thankful that Eric Milton isn't with the Reds right now (still a FA and always the chance they could resign him) and hope it stays that way. The only thing he ever did right in Cincy was suck and he did it big time. Everytime I knew he was pitching it was like "I wonder how many runs he will give up this time" only to be surprised that he surpassed my expectations.

But I agree. Too many pitchers is a nice problem to have and while we don't have too many great pitchers, there are quite a few with potential and that seems much better than normal.
