the homer to george posada duel was as nasty as i've seen from homer. he threw him some ugly wicked slow stuff. the first half of homer's outing was great, the second half looked like the homer of last year.

Everyone here in Cincy is praising Volquez as the next Tom Seaver. The dude has a ERA of almost 6 this spring while Homer's is right around 4.50.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
yeah I know. I was just pointing it out. I still think Bailey's going to be a good pitcher but he's just a bit brash right now. Reminds of Tim Robbins' character from Bull Durham. Once he can learn how to work hitters instead of throwing stuff and hoping they swing and miss he'll be pretty deadly.Lux y VeritasComment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
i think its going to be hard for any pitcher to do really well in GABP..i think bailey could do well, but hes still going to have a high ERA because of the field he pitches in.Sports do not build character. They reveal it.

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
Harang's ERA at home was 3.41 while his road ERA was 4.06 last year.
Arroyo was 6-5 at home last year and 3-10 on the road.
As you can see by Harang's ERA you can actually pitch at GABP.Last edited by jake44np; 03-12-2008, 08:10 AM.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Ok who thinks Jay Bruce makes the opening day roster??
I know he should make it but I think they are going to send him to AAA to start the season.
I heard C. Trent Rosegrans say they would save millions in the future if he starts the season in AAA. He said if he starts in AAA they would have an extra year before he would be abritration eligible.??ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Yeah Brandon is my favorite player in all of baseball, I am getting a Phillips jersey very soon.

Bruce will likely start in AAA which is unfortunate for him. I also think Votto could start there as well. Bruce maybe needs extra time there since he wasn't there much last year but I could see him starting on Opening Day if given the opportunity. Votto I don't think has anything else to prove there but since he is having a bad spring I wouldn't put it past them to start him in AAA.
On a side note, I think a good rotation at the moment would be:
Harang
Arroyo
Belisle
Cueto
Volquez
I heard about Cueto a few years ago and he has always been talked about highly. Seems he is finally able to show that he is THAT good.
As far as Bailey, he is still only 21 years old. Many great players were older than him when they finally figured it all out. Still think Bailey can be a dominate #1 pitcher, he just needs a bit more time and a good pitching coach. Is Pole that coach? I don't think so but maybe.#WeAreUKComment

The guy has an ERA of 6 this spring, and has been really inconsistant. Again it is amazing how people are going nuts over a 4 inning appearance in which he struck out 8 allowed 6 hits and 2 runs. The guy needs to go to AAA and learn how to pitch. Homer has alot better #'s then Volquez this spring yet everyone wants to send him to AAA and give a rotation spot to Volquez???!!ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I think both Votto and Bruce should be on the opening day roster. At this point I dont really think they have much left to prove in the minors. However, with Dunn and Griffey in the corners I don't expect Bruce to be on the opening day 25 man roster. I like Votto as well but I'm also a Hattegberg fan. Hatteberg, as we all know, always has a good OBP which I believe is important for this Reds team that already has bobbers. As for Cueto and Volzques I wouldnt mind them starting in the pen at the start of the season.Comment

Re: 2008 Cincinnati Reds
I dont understand why everyone wants to hand Volquez a starting spot. The guy strikes out 8 Yankees and everyone thinks he is Nolan Ryan!

With that said, I would LOVE to see Bailey make it in some fashion. I never said that he should start in AAA. I merely made a post about Bruce probably starting there (and I am on the fence about that with more leaning towards giving him a shot in the Bigs by about 70/30) and I mentioned a possibly starting rotation for now. But I also don't want him to be rushed into it and never realize his full potential. Again he is only like 21 years old, that's nothing. As far as Volquez, I guess I really want him to succeed because I really liked Hamilton and wished he wasn't traded. But by all accounts from what I have read is that Volquez has electric stuff. That is hard to come by and if he continues to show he has full command, how do you not give him a shot?
Also I don't think that what happens in Spring means a whole hell of a lot when it comes to stats. Spring is more about looking at mechanics and getting guys warm and in game condition for the upcoming, grueling season. Harang doesn't have OUTSTANDING numbers but we all know he will be solid, if not one of the best pitchers in the NL.#WeAreUKComment

I think Cueto has a very real chance of making the rotation. He is the talk of Florida right now. I also agree about Votto having NOTHING to prove in the minors, but for Bruce it is kind of a different story. I like him making the team and playing CF for the Reds. Not sure it will happen though. But his time in the minors was only a year and AAA was hardly anything. So he could still have something to prove, or at the least get some at bats, beat the heck out of AAA, and demand to be called up once and for all. But I would rather him be the opening day starter in CF.#WeAreUKComment
