I guarantee you that having Barry Bonds, a career .310/.527/.594 hitter with RISP would help that problem.

I'm glad that fans are finally tearing him a new one because he deserves it. I have a feeling if things really fall apart for the Jays this year that he gets fired.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Couldn't agree more, I hope he gets sacked. Make no mistake, he's done some good things (Rios and Hill extensions, the odd draft gem), but by and large he has been a step backwards for this franchise. Could one of you who heard the interview post a summary or something for those of us not lucky enough to hear it?Comment

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
I only heard the very end and I heard something that could potentially hang him in terms of fan criticism.
He said that Gibbons isn't the problem (I can agree with that he's actually improved as a manager this year) but if the team continues to play like crap then it's all his fault and he should take the blame.

I didn't watch the game. Personally this season is lost anyways. I'm just waiting for Ricciardi and/or Gibbons to be fired.
I just looked at the Box Score...Ah good ol' AJ!

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Can't blame AJ at all, the guy pitched great almost the whole game. Downs gets the tailor-made DP ball and Eckstein just dropped it somehow, turned a 4-3 lead into an 8-4 deficit. Eckstein's two errors cost huge in this one, although the honorable mention goat horns go to Stewart's inability to hit anything right now. On the bright side (to the extent that there is one) nice to see Rolen back and picking up a clutch 2-out knock.Comment

Thanks for the background info.
I don't understand why Gibbons is so stubborn to not put Johnny Mac as a defensive sub late in games.
Still it sucks to lose games you should win.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Yeah, I'm not really sure why we can't seem to score without feeling the need to give the other team runs back right away. That to me is the most disturbing trend lately. I don't think that in the last 4 games we've scored in the top without giving up something in the bottom.Comment

Nice to see Reed Johnson thriving in Chicago. I saw the clip of his amazing catch on Baseball Tonight and they were talking about what an excellent pickup he has been and they wondered what Toronto was thinking letting him go.Comment

It's easy to say things like that right now, but if he tails off people won't even notice. However, it would be a little easier to forget if Stewart remembered he's supposed to be a good hitter.Comment

Re: Your 2008 Toronto Blue Jays!
Dan Shulman on his weekly segment on PTS was saying how he met up with Reed before he did the NYM/CHC game on Monday and how Reed was saying he's 100% healthy. I don't know where JP gets off saying that Stewart is a better bat then Johnson.
Yes statistically Stewart may be a little better but as Shulman said (and I agree) sometimes players are better then their stats and that's how it is with Reed. The guy puts up some very good numbers when he's healthy, plays hard and is willing to get plunked for the good of the team. He's also a chemistry guy who brings a personality to a team.
This is something the Jays are sorely lacking these days and if Johnson has a banner season while Stewart continues to regress then there's going to be a LOT of complaining by fans.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
