Wilner is salivating at that idea. I dunno, a part of me would like to see it happen. I mean when was the last time the Jays had a circus atmosphere around them? You can't really say '92 and '93 because that team was way too professional but the teams in the '80s did have some flavor to them. It'd at the very least make the Jays the most talked about topic on Toronto sports radio but on the other hand I don't want that surly bastard ruining anything.

BTW this whole Frank Thomas thing has JP Ricciardi move written all over it. The guy doesn't seem to have any kind of class. I could go on and on and on with the borderline classless things he's done since he's been GM here but I won't because i'd be taking way too much space.

Yeah, who needs that distraction of a 1.000 OPS? Man, Barry's such a jerk that he's going to make them put a clause in his contract so that the Jays hold baby seal clubbing day at the park in mid-September.

Or, in a much more likely scenario, the Jays finally add the legitimate power bat they've needed since Delgado left and become a contender again. Its amazing how many people seem to be happy with this team being irrelevant.

The only classless person here is Frank Thomas. If you complain about playing time to the media when you're hitting below .175 with an OPS below .700, and you bring absolutely nothing else to the team, then get the hell out.

I'm done with this team till J.P. is fired. Since Godfrey has a huge hardon for him, that won't change.

And I just bought a freakin Halladay shirt at Champs yesterday...

Actually he didn't go to the media it was the media that went to him. You can't fault the guy for answering questions and telling the truth as he sees it.

Anyways its a moot point now that he's gone. I just hope he doesn't find himself in the AL East.

Where was the benching last year when he hit .207, 2HR and 5RBI's through the first 16 games (http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/gl.cgi?n1=thomafr04&t=b&year=2007)? Or the year before that with Oakland, when he hit sub-.200 with similar output through 16 games compared to this year? Both years, he turned out to be the team leader in offense, so this move makes absolutely no sense in terms of him slumping, because he's historically known to slump early in the season.

Bottom line is that JP is releasing Frank to save face and save having to pay him the $10M guaranteed 3rd year. He signed the Hurt to a bad deal and he knows it. Right from day one I think we all know that giving a guaranteed third year on that deal based on x PAs is a bad, bad idea, and now it came back to nip JP in the behind. And now that culminated in handing Thomas $8M for nothing.

JP needs to go, do we need to count how many bad deals he's made over the years to see a trend here?

I don't see any of the other AL East teams having a need for him. Maybe the Rays, but it's unlikely they'll be doing any contending this year, so what's the point. Baltimore is also a rebuilding team, and I don't see the Yanks or Sox picking him up.

I would think that the most likely suitor would be the Mariners, who seems to be the only team with a legit DH problem as far as I can tell.

Frank Thomas' 2007 was nothing close to what his 2006 was. His OPS was 75 points lower and he was nowhere near the power threat he was in Oakland. And he was amazing at hitting well when the team was 9 games out in June. Unfortunately the season doesn't start then.

The only place I'll knock JP here is the fact that they knew that Thomas was a slow starter, but I have a feeling they knew this was coming all along if he didn't produce early on.

Better than having him rot on the bench (or even worse, starting) next year for $10 million. Its not my money anyways.

I like the Sportscentre segment where Godfrey goes "There is no way Barry Bonds will be a Blue Jay," because he's a distraction followed by four guys on the team saying either that Bonds should be signed or that they had no problems playing with Bonds.

At this point Bonds should be a no-brainer, provided he could accept a DH role... this stuff about being a distraction is nonsense... he will produce where it matters most, at the plate, and his presence will guarantee that Rios is the recipient of better pitches to feast off of... the team is instantly alot more dangerous with Bonds hitting clean-up, Wells at the 5 spot, Rolen batting 6th and Lind/Stairs hitting 7th

What the players said was that they had no problems with Bonds, but keep in mind the media circus that would no doubt follow and IMO would be a big drain on the players after a little while. That's what I think Godfrey was thinking about.

That's a valid argument but the flipside is that players on the Jays have been complaining about Rogers Centre being so quiet and the fans aren't coming out. Well like him or hate him, Bonds will make the Jays a hot topic of conversation again on both sides of the border. I say offer him a one year incentive laden deal and see if he accepts it.

It couldn't hurt to try, I mean this team needs power BADLY.

I don't think power is the main issue, I think (and I think we can all agree) hitting with RISP is a MAJOR issue for this team and has been for years. I don't understand how you can load the bases twice in the same game and not even score once.
