Acquired Justin Huber from the Kansas City Royals.

The roster is set accept for Edmonds. They will make a decision regarding him shortly.

      RF Brian Giles
      2B Tadahito Iguchi
      3B Kevin Kouzmanoff
      1B Adrian Gonzalez
      SS Khalil Greene
      CF Scott Hairston
      LF Jody Gerut
      C Josh Bard

      Bench:
      C Michael Barrett
      1B Tony Clark
      INF/OF Callix Crabbe
      OF Paul McAnulty/Justin Huber

      Rotation:
      Jake Peavy
      Chris Young
      Greg Maddux
      Randy Wolf
      Justin Germano

      Bullpen:
      Trevor Hoffman
      Glendon Rusch
      Heath Bell
      Cla Meredith
      Joe Thatcher
      Enrique Gonzalez
      Wil Ledezma

If Edmonds opens the season on the 15-day disabled list the Padres would have Jody Gerut, Paul McAnulty, Brian Giles, Scott Hairston available for outfield duty. If Edmonds is on the team, who will get sent down? Most likely Paul McAnulty

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread

I highly doubt Edmonds is healthy to start the season. He hasn't played since the first week of March and there's too little time for him to be ready for opening day.

McAnulty will have to pass through waivers before getting sent down. I see this move coming a day before the season starts much like Justin Germano last year.

LF Is PMac. Hairston in CF...Huber will be sent down to Triple A when Edmonds comes off the DL because he has options left.

I thought Huber didn't have options?

Heck, why the hell are we wasting our time with bench OF'ers? I don't care if this guy was once a rated prospect, we have a logjam of 4th-5th outfielders now.

Never mind I was wrong Huber has No options left. I am with you Rag, I don't understand why we are wasting another roster spot on an OF when they have Crabbe who is their super utility man.

1-6 is 3 for 13, but 7-9 is 5 for 5 with 2 runs, both batted in by Peavy. It's good to have a pitcher that knows how to hit.

Re: The Official San Diego Padres Thread

Great job tonight by everyone. I know it's only 1 game, but I saw a lot of positives to take away.

                    Peavy looks back to form.

The hitting looks very much improved. Not a lot of breaking balls for strikes, 14 hits altogether, everyone reached base safely tonight, hitting with runner's in scoring position.

                    Defense played well all around.

Only real negative I saw was that we're still gonna have problems stopping base runners.

I'm not naive enough to expect the same result every night, however, you can't argue that the team doesn't look good out of the gate.

Most steals against yet the lowest ERA. Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. I say let them run all night long. They're only going to get stranded at second anyway.

True, but imagine how low that ERA would be without those stolen bases too.

Like I said, I thought the team looks great.

It really is a double edged sword. I think if a pitcher spends too much time dealing with the runner it takes away from the job at hand, getting the batter out.

2-0 to start the season, Scott Hairston with a two run homerun last night. I am telling people don't sleep on that guy. PMac what happened? you got a second shot....atleast get one hit to warrant a 3rd straight start in LF..now we have to see Huber in there tonight.

All in all, i like the way they are hitting. They are not over swinging like they did most of the year in petco. Yes, two shots I believe both from Adrian were petco'd because of the cold air but, 14 hits and then 8 hits in the game. Thats good IMO to see these guys hitting where the pitch is.

2 of those deep hits (one by Gonzo on opening night, and one last night by Giles) were just robbed by Bourne. That dude can cover some ground!
