I had sent an email to the Padres about my displeasure with this deal. To their credit they actually did call me back.

I believe he said the deal runs through the 2010 season. So if my memory serves 2011 would be the soonest we would be rid of that deal.

I have the guys card, maybe I'll give him a call to get a status on this deal.

Loved the squeeze bunt by Gonzalez. Talk about taking yourself out of a game there. 1 more game tomorrow, 12:35 PT, Kershaw vs Correra.

Bad news the TV deal runs through 2011.

You know what's awesome, "The Eulogy" coming out in the ninth while we're trailing behind (yes, I know his name is Eulogio de la Cruz). That'd be funny, Heath Bell coming in to close out our rare wins and the Eulogy coming out and pitching the ninth in about half our losses (I don't think he can pitch 120 games).

            Thanks bkrich.

That's lame. Seriously, who was the genius behind this and what was the motivation? They're already a small enough market. And wasn't this thing renewed like a couple of years ago. Just like the current roster, what a disaster.

I asked those and other similiar questions last year when I talked to them. To be honest I never really got an answer, other than it was a mistake.

Again, for North County residents, we can see the Angels on TV just about any night, and Angels stadium is just about as accessible to us as Petco..

As you said it's a small market team, doesn't make sense to make it a smaller market.

That's true. I only found that out last week.

Decent MLB debut for Walter Silva, however, he needs to cut down on the walks. He'll probably be around for another month or so before he goes back to the Mexican Leagues. He should benefit from being a new pitcher for a while.

Bud Black certainly botched the pitching change with Cla Meredith. And again, same old with Kouz and Headley... it's like Khalil Greene never left.

Positives: Everth Cabrera, Edward Mujica (First Inning of work), Sacrifice into Double Play in the Fifth.

Negatives: Mujica (Second Inning of work), top of the order, strikeouts.

                    Tom Garfinkel FWIW.

I agree with you about Cabrera. He looked solid out there today in his first ever ML start. That double he hit was beautiful! I just wish the others could follow suit. This is the guy who isn't supposed to be able to hit ML pitchers, yet he's the one getting XB hits.

I'm willing to give Silva a few starts before nailing him too hard, but I think he'll be able to settle in to a decent pitcher for the team, but I don't know about being a starter.

Black's management with the bullpen today was horrendous. Granted, the Padres were already losing, and showing no signs of life, but why Mujica stayed in is beyond me.

Luis Rodriguez! What a comeback. Dead all day long the pAAAdres "explode" for 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th. I'll be happy with a split. Let's see what happens.

I caught the tail end of the game from the sixth through the top of the ninth. I missed the ground ball double play to end it, good job Heath.

Positives: Gonzalez remembered that he was a power hitter, Heath Bell stranding a lead off triple, David Eckstein, Luis Rodriguez

Negatives: 10 strikeouts, Chase Headley at 7 already in the season, lack of production from the centerfield platoon.

There was a explanation during the radio broadcast that I caught. Bud Black went to the mound to call in the infield. He didn't signal to the bullpen but Cla Meredith thought that he was being waved in. Miscommunication.

I heard about that, but I still would have rather seen Mujica get pulled at that point.

Today's game was great. I'd love to see some more baseball like that from the Padres. Heath Bell had me scared for a minute, but Cabrera had Manny played perfectly, and the rest is history. How bout that power from Adrian? Opposite field HR that bounced off the edge of the 2nd deck, and that was on a pitch away! Nice job!

Today we just claimed RHP Luis Perdomo from the Giants while losing RHP Wilton Lopez to the Astros.

Drew Macias was also sent down to AAA and 2B Travis Denker was DFA'd, probably to make room for Luis Perdomo.

It's Shawn Hill vs. Barry Zito tonight.

So far so good out of the 3, 4, 5 starters. 5 solid innings out of Hill today.

Rain delay going on, but I think they'll probably start resuming from what I've been reading. I don't care if they're overachieving, it's great seeing the team play like this... on gameday that is.
