    Re: 2009 Atlanta Braves

Good call. I missed your post before I made my edit.

I really liked what I saw from Medlen against the Dbacks, so hopefully its not him getting sent down. I wouldn't mind seeing Kawakami take a phantom DL trip for "fatigue" or something and let Hanson take a couple of turns in his spot. Then let the better of the two in Medlen and Hanson stick around for the long haul.

That rumor is circulating in Pittsburgh as well. I have not heard anything on the return though.

THe Pirates have CF Andrew McCutchen waiting in the wings so this deal does make sense (assuming the prospects are good). You guys will love Nate. He plays the game the way it should be played. I'll be sad to see him go.

well...Schaefer wasn't cutting it...and the Braves need some more umph from their lineup....and they needed a READY centerfielder....

So...McClouth is now a Brave in exchange for three minor leaguers...

the three minor leaguers going to Pittsburgh are:

pitchers Charlie Morton and Jeff Locke

            and

            prized outfielder Gorkys Hernandez

              The

Great trade for the Braves. We have Heyward so we didn't need Hernandez and Morton/Locke aren't going to be big time players. We needed a bat in the OF and now we have one.

As for the Glavine move, I think it's BS. I don't care if Tommy can't get guys out anymore or if he'd get $1 MIL for pitching this year, you let him go out on his terms. He's done enough for the organization and deserves that much at least. This is worse than the Smoltzie move...

To be honest, I'm thinking about this deal solely from a Pirates perspective. Nothing against the Braves, but I'm not concerned with how they view the deal as I'm not a fan of theirs. If the Pirates could trade them a bag of peanuts for a top tier prospect, I'd be happy!

Is Hernandez really a prized outfielder? I've been reading that Morton is the guy with the most upside in the deal and Hernandez is basically a great d, little O type outfielder. I'm really not sure where he fits in with the Pirates right now. Andrew McCutchen is coming up to play CF and Moss has RF taken. Morgan has done well in LF (and will likely be replaced by Tabata once he's ready).

                  @ mjb2124

regarding Gorkys, coming into this 2009 season, he is their 4th top prospect...he;s still very young (21 years old). He's not a home run hitter, but a gap kind of guy. He's pretty fast....not a blazer like Nyjer Morgan, but he's definitely above average. For defense, he gets 'em all...he's got great closing speed and a damn good arm also.

Schaefer was the number 3 prospect coming into this year and Gorkys is number 4

Regarding Morton..who has already had a cup of coffee in the majors...he sucked in the bigs last year...but inthe minors last season and this season (10 starts), we're talking a guy with a sub-3 ERA.

Morton at 25 years old, was NOT in Atlanta's top 30 prospects for 2009..

I'm really excited about the McLouth deal. It's going to be nice to actually have a solid leadoff guy with speed and some power......not to mention the fact that he's a gold glove CF. The way the Phillies are playing, we might be chasing nothing but the wildcard soon so I'm glad Wren acted quickly and addressed a huge need. I wonder if we'll see any other deals? According to Wren they're done dealing, but I don't know how concrete that is.

What do you guys think about claiming the recently DFA'ed Wilson Betemit to take the bench spot currently occupied by the offensively challenged Diory Hernandez??

                                Hanson is starting on Sunday

The official website of the Atlanta Braves with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Braves are interested in a trade with BOS for Penny. For some reason they want Francrap. They are stupid if they give anything up for him. There was a article in the AJC about trading him to BOS a week or too ago and the comments were great. Along the lines of take a bucket of balls, a grounds crewmen, etc.
