I just made a Pirates season in The Show. I'd like to see them have a winning season for once.

The Pirates also signed the 16yo Mexican Pitcher, Heredia today. Another nice move by the Pirates.

1-9 in the last 10. Aside from the draft and signing of Heredia, things haven't been going very well. Chan Ho Park has looked as I expected...giving up a run or more in 4 out of 5 outings.

With that said, I like Ledezma and the 95mph heat coming from his left arm. Don't find those guys around very often. His stats haven't been that impressive though.

Well, the Pirates clinched their 18th straight losing season tonight. Now they'll have to go 23-17 over their last 40 games to avoid a 100 loss season, something which I don't think they will pull off at this point.

But on the bright side, Arena Football is coming to Pittsburgh in April
Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
                Penguins : 1990/91, 1991/92, 2008/09, 20015/16, 2016/17
                Pirates : 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979
                Panthers (FB): 1915, 1916, 1918, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1976
                Panthers (MBB): 1927/28, 1929/30

Just wanted to say Thank You to the Pirates for knocking St Louis down this past series. Really helped my Reds out. You all played a heck of a series. Hoping you all can finish strong for the future... (except against the Reds) hah

                    Re: 2010 Pirates

You only listed the main positives and left off the negatives. You have to view things by their entirety and not cherry pick what you want. The Nady trade was great. The McLouth trade was good because he was sold at his highest point (although I think they should have received more as the only guy I like from that trade is Locke...Morton and Gorkys don't impress me much). The Burnett/Morgan trade was good as well.
Not really. They traded some awful players and got great returns for their value. Morgan/McLouth have both gone from mediocre to terrible since we traded them. And we got Milledge/Hanrahan who have been major contributers (Milledge probably gets traded at some point between now and next year), plus three prospects for McLouth when he's not even on the MLB roster anymore. Morton bombed, true, but there's still potential there. While Gorkys/Locke are both thriving in the farm. Better off with Nate McLouth than them? I personally don't agree.

While Neal probably missed on some trades, Jason Bay being the worst of them, and honestly, Adam LaRoche. LaRoche has had a pretty big offensive year for Arizona, not amazing or anything, but pretty solid. Probably could have gotten more for a bat like that than Argenis Diaz. I still feel he's done a solid job of stockpiling the young talent. The draft is mainly what matters here. The trades were meant for depth, while attaining a few possible stars in the process, which they very well may have.

This season was another frustrating one to watch, but I think they're starting to turn the corner on the field. They just need their young talent to mature, and they need their pitching ASAP, since there isn't one great pitching talent on the MLB roster. Between Taillon/Morris/Locke/ZVR/Rudy Owens/Tim Alderson/Brad Lincoln, there has to be a competent rotation in there. I'm not getting into Allie, because from everything I read about him, he doesn't seem like he's going to be a starting pitcher.

Like I mentioned, I thought the Nady trade was great, the Nate trade was pretty good (although I think Gorkys is ridiculously overrated...I do think Locke will be a nice pitcher though) and the Burnett trade was good. I like Hanrahan a lot, but don't like Milledge. The guy is a butcher in the field and doesn't provide enough offensively to make up for it. I still get a kick out of everyone getting excited when he made a great diving catch to end a game earlier in the year, but the only reason he had to dive was because he took such a horrible route to the ball.

There are a lot of young arms down on the farm and I do agree the MLB roster needs pitching ASAP. Howeer, a lot of these young arms are 2-4 years away though so there's a lot of time before we see them (Taillon obviously being on the 3-4 year time frame and Lincoln being on the opposite end of the spectrum). I sure hope the Pirates can figure out what's going on with Alderson because he has the perfect pitcher build. I worry when I see a guy like him lose so much in velocity and start getting hit hard/often. A friend of mine saw him earlier this year and said he never broke 87mph....this from a guy who used to be in the low-mid 90's.

I don't like Milledge either. He strikes me as an underachiever. Looks to be talented, yet he acts like a goof in the field. There's been so many times this year where he has a fly ball hit to him and he loses it on the way down, you're right he takes horrible routes. He has such a powerful swing to have no real power, as well. Be that as it may, if he can hit 10 HR's, bat close to .300, drive in 70, maybe steal 15-20, he'll be good enough trade bait. With Gorkys/Marte/Lambo in the farm, we really don't need Lastings Milledge next season. Still rather have him than Morgan, well him and Hanrahan both over Morgan/Burnett, as he's actually somewhat competent offensively unlike Morgan.

Alderson is a big dude too, it's not good that he's been dropping in velocity ever since we picked him up.

Charlie Morton came back today to give up another 7 ER's. It's pretty insane the way this guy can't go one start without getting absolutely lit up. It's not even like he goes 6 innings 5 ER's or something, he can't even make it to 5 innings without giving up the entire game. He's got the stuff, his command is just terrible. He puts everything over the plate.

Chuck Morton will always confuse me. He has three above average pitches, good velocity, and he pitched really well last year sans one start. For a while, he reminded me of Nolasco in that he has a good and bad form, but now it's just all bad this year. His walks are back up a bit, but his location wasn't a huge problem in the past beyond the walk rate.

I still would hate to lose him so would at least take him into spring training next year, but this year is a lost one.

I'd also like to see him with Snyder rather than Doumit -- maybe some pitching sequencing changes would help. I also know he didn't get along with Kerrigan, which probably didn't help things this year.

But, obviously, these are excuses and he still has to pitch better.

As exciting Pedro is, his BB/K is really scary. He's averaging 2 K's a game and not walking half as much. Rookie year and everything and you can tell he just wants to blast 500 foot HR's right now, but it's something he's really, really gotta work on. He seems like he's good at adapting, as he's had those cold spells but he'll heat up and blast a few HR's while collecting a bunch of RBI's and then go cold again. I can buy it as rookie struggles.

Tabata, I feel, looks like he's going to be a star. If he develops power, he'll be a great player. Even if he doesn't and just remains a 10-15 HR kind of guy, he could be highly effective. The guy definitely HAS power, a couple of his HR's were bombs. I like his presence at the plate, reminds me of McCutchen during his rookie year, where he doesn't look like a rookie at all.

Neil Walker's bat is definitely good, much better than I ever thought it would be. For his actual rookie year, he's been pretty impressive. The BB/K isn't anything good, but again, it's something you're going to see from most rookies. The fact is, he can at least hit, so that's a good sign to start with. Getting this kind of production from the 2nd base position is a nice thing to have, especially when you have a black hole at SS.

Factoring in these three with McCutchen, who despite a few slumps, put up a good sophomore season, his first half was really good, I'm liking these new Pirates. Can't think of the last time we had so much potential at so many different positions like this. And we still have Tony Sanchez to look forward to.

That rotation is still soooo awful though. They'll be rebuilding it from scratch over the next few years, that's for sure. Only guy I could see us keeping is maybe Ohlendorf for a backend guy. While there's certainly potential in our farm, it's still such a long way off. Even next year it's hard to believe our pitching will be much better than it is now.

Well it can't really be any worse now, can it? What couldn't be better than this year? I mean I've never seen a rotation get soo lit up all year long.

Charlie Morton reminds me of a guy that everyone said had great potential. Was gonna be a good pitcher, was a good pickup. That man was Ryan Vogelsong. Not comparing the 2, just what it reminds me of.
