Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
IMO Marmol and Castro are the only two guys that need to stay everybody else is up for grabs. Marmol can be wild but when he is on he is awesome.MLB: Chicago Cubs
NFL: San Diego Chargers
NHL: Chicago Blackhawks
NBA: Chicago Bulls
NCAA: Iowa HawkeyesComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Castro is the only one that should be safe.
Marmol is already overpaid, and with his mechanics, he never has the chance of being any type of consistent. Sure he can be electric, but last year we saw him lose movement and velocity on his fastball (From mid upper 90's to low-mid 90's) and lose command of his only pitch he can command and that is his slider.Comment

Now we can only hope that Soriano's dealt. I'm fine with that even if we do eat a large portion of his contract. In my mind nobody is safe (besides Castro) and I wouldn't be surprised if anyone gets traded as long as the guys in the front office are presented with an offer they like. And I can't really say that I would be too sad over anyone leaving Chicago, other than Dempster. I love the rebuild, hopefully it works out, only time will tell.Comment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
I played against Sappelt in college. Great player and by all accounts a good teammate, I like that pickup. I'm not much of a fan of Ian Stewart at 3rd. I watched a lot of him out here in Denver the last couple of years and was never that impressed by his defense, and he is simply bad offensively.Comment

I think they'll be able to trade Soriano, if there willing to Eat most of the contract. It'll have to be in the AL though. He'd be a very intriguing option as a DH.Wolverines Packers Cubs Celtics

Soriano will be with the Orioles in Spring Training. I have no inside info on that, it's just my gut feeling on thatComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
Seeing how the Zambrano situation was handled, I have no question that Soriano will not be playing for the Cubs next season. It's obvious that Theo is willing to eat as much salary as possible to get Hendry's failures off the team and start anew.
More power to him, I like what he's doing.Comment

EDIT: Just read the article. Seems like kind of a farce to me. Another case of a girl seeing an opportunity and wanting to take advantage of it. She voluntarily went to his apartment at like 2:00am? What was she expecting to happen at that time? Going to cuddle and read bedtime stories? Come on.Last edited by 1Rose; 01-06-2012, 02:14 PM.Comment

He was traded to SD for RizzoComment

Re: The Friendly Confines: The Official Chicago Cubs Thread
The Cubs acquired Anthony Rizzo and Zach Cates for Andrew Cashner and Kyung-Min Na.
Really hope Rizzo can reach his potential at some point, he's still only 22 so hopefully he turns into a nice 1st baseman with the Cubs.Comment
