Hannahan, I guess they need a utility guy?

Anyways, their lineup looks good as of now.

Good riddance to Cairo and Valdez! Bench is stronger with Donald and Hannahan. Good moves IMO.

I liked Cairo, Valdez not so much. The highlight of his career was beating the Reds as a pitcher.

I am super happy that Stubbs is gone. Of course, I would have been ecstatic if they just outright released him. Other than defense...worthless.

Cairo did a decent job 2 years ago. But I can't see how anyone could look at last year and say they like him. Another one, along with Stubbs, that I'm happy we don't have anymore. Very very happy.

How do you guys think Chapman is going to do in the rotation?
Cueto, Latos, Arroyo, Chapman, Leake will be a pretty good rotation if Chapman can adjust into the starting rotation well.

You just threw Bailey right out huh? lol I think Leake will be the 5th starter at the beginning of the season and then they ease Chapman into a starting role.

As for how he will do, who knows? He may do better with just pitching and then having 4-5 days off to rest his arm. But I still contend he needs a reliable 3rd pitch, hopefully his changeup. 99mph to a 80-85mph changeup...hitters would be frozen solid.

Bailey has GOT to be in the rotation considering how he finished last season. I'd go Cueto, Latos, Bailey Arroyo, Chapman to start the season.

You're absolutely right about Chapman needing a 3rd pitch. Going through a team's lineup three times in a game (hopefully) they're eventually going to catch on. He may be able to find success if he can gain better control with his slider which may be his best pitch when thrown with consistent control. If I had to guess (I've never really played baseball so I'm not sure) I would think the changeup would be one of the easier pitches to learn because its just a matter of keeping the motion and arm speed the same.

One thing that cannot be overlooked is his need to work on defense, pick off moves, and throwing from the stretch which all looked a ton better last season but are more likely to be tested as a SP.

Of course he may just strike out two of every three batters for seven innings and win the Cy Young

Just to clarify, i was only pointing out Bailey's omission from redsrule's post, which I would assume was just an oversight on his part.

I agree with the rotation you suggested for this year except that Jocketty has already said he is likely going to start Chapman in the pen and work him into the rotation.

Also, I believe (could be wrong) that Arroyo is in the last year of his contract and while I appreciate all he has done, I would be very open to having Cingrani be our fifth starter in 2014....assuming he is ready. So a rotation of Cueto, Latos, Bailey, Chapman, Cingrani for 2014. Sounds damn good to me.

*disclaimer* This is all assuming of course that A) Cingrani continues to progress and is ready and B) that Chapman can actually pitch a game without his arm falling off and having overall success as a starter. If he doesn't, we will have a very expensive set up man in Broxton.

I don't know much about Cingrani but I would guess at the end of next season They'll probably resign Arroyo for a year if he doesn't retire and I'd be fine with that. Maybe they'd put him on a short leash with the idea that Cingrani would definitely start in 2015. Bronson is 35 already but his soft throwing may extend his career for another several seasons. I just don't like the idea of dumping him (assuming his performance doesn't totally fall of a cliff) considering how much he has given to the club and the fact is he ought to be a Reds Hall of Famer.

Came back from a long car ride to see this news. It is awful, I loved the effort he displayed night in and night out.
I read on twitter that people suspect Freel has at least 9/10 concussions in his career. That could have definitely played a role in this tragedy.
