Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
This team is a pretender...seriously, can't put together a complete effort. If the hitting is good, the starting pitching sucks. If the starters are good, the relievers suck. I wish it was 1995 again...

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
I don't think this team is a pretender at all. Sure the pitching hasn't been great. But the offense is one of the best in the league. I think they definitely need to make a deal in the next month and a half. Either they need Jurrjens, Medlen, Teheran, or Minor to really step up in the rotation, or they need to make a deal for a pitcher. And they need bullpen help. Venters has been hit hard all year. His ERA didn't really show it until today, but his peripherals certainly did. They really need a guy that can step into the 8th inning and shut the door.Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
I'm unbelievably concerned about Jonny Venters.
Tonight was a disaster. Perhaps the worst loss of the entire season. Arguably more infuriating than what happened Sunday.
This team isn't a "pretender", we're still damn good, but damn......so freakin' frustrating. Can't afford giving games away.Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
Two things concern me the most: Venters underperforming and Hanson's lost velocity. I don't see Venters bouncing back. Relievers tend to be here one minute gone the next. I don't expect him to turn it around much this year. He had a 1.71 whip going into tonight, and I'm sure it's much worse now. Hanson's lost velocity concerns me more for the longterm. He's not an ace if he's sitting at 89 - his fastball doesn't have enough movement, and he doesn't have enough control. He's a solid #3 starter. Problem is, the team doesn't have a #2 starter.I'm unbelievably concerned about Jonny Venters.

Agreed on both counts. Not sure what the course of action is for Venters.Comment

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
I think Venters needs some work at AAA to see if he can figure out what is going on. He's definitely not the same guy we saw last season, which makes me wonder which one is the real Venters.
As a lifelong Braves fan, I know that the crowds don't always turn out at Turner Field and the atmosphere isn't always the most intimidating for an opposing team. However, I believe that last night was an all-time low and such an embarrassment to have the Yankees seemingly playing a home game in Atlanta. The Crowd reaction for ARod's grand slam, and the eruption that followed Uggla's K to the end the game was ridiculous for an opposing team. I realize there are Yankee fans everywhere and seeing the Yankees in Turner Field is rare, but come on.Comment

It always happens, same thing with the other AL East big team and the Cubs. There are a lot of bandwagon fans in Atlanta or people who have moved from those cities. It sucks, but it has always been like that.As a lifelong Braves fan, I know that the crowds don't always turn out at Turner Field and the atmosphere isn't always the most intimidating for an opposing team. The last playoff series against the Giants, Turner field was extremely loud. Regular season games usually are not.Comment

Yes it does suck, but last night seemed worse than ever before. Maybe it is just me and my disdain for the Yankees that made me notice it more, but for whatever reason it seemed amplified last night. It always happens, same thing with the other AL East big team and the Cubs. There are a lot of bandwagon fans in Atlanta or people who have moved from those cities. It sucks, but it has always been like that.

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
We need bullpen help badly. Venters isn't himself anymore. O'Flaherty is nursing a sore elbow. Durbin is a mopup pitcher. Hernandez is our long guy and shouldn't be pitching in the 7th/8th regardless of the situation. Martinez is better than Durbin but that isn't saying much. And Gearrin is unproven in the majors with a career ERA over 7. Why did they send Medlen to AAA to become a starter?Comment

I liked sending out Venters tonight. The sweep hurts though.

Re: 2012 Atlanta Braves thread
What a waste of time, send him down, lose games because of the bullpen, then you decide to bring him back without him stretching out.
Glad to have him back in the bullpen though.Comment
