John Gibbons says the Toronto Blue Jays have designated relief pitcher Esmil Rogers for assignment to make room for Liam Hendriks on the roster.

      Hendriks interests me.

Crazy thing they mentioned at game today. This is first time since 93 that Jays(as a 1st seed in the division) are facing another 1st seed in a division, this "late" into a season.

I may actually enjoy watching the Jays less this season because I am now nervous that every game will be the beginning of a heartbreaking losing streak.

Guys, I think this team might be legit. If Gose can keep being productive at the plate and Reyes doesn't hurt himself than this team has thunder AND speed. The bench is now actually a going concern and the starters are pitching very well.

On one hand i'm enjoying the right but on the other hand i'm scared that we'll see this team crash and burn but this feels a lot more substantial than 2009 when the Jays were in 1st place around this time of the year.

Rasmus coming back will add even more depth. There's definitely something good going on in the clubhouse. I just wonder what AA will give up to add an arm if this run gets real.

Yeah, that's a little worrying to me. You just got to know Rogers will open up the vault of money to get a good arm for the foreseeable future if this is indeed the sign of things to come. The thing I worry about is that AA is too damn cautious for his own good sometimes when it comes to making a snap decision. His history has been as a guy who works the phones over a few days then make a deal. The way the Samardija (sp) market is going to open up he's going to have to be more proactive.

If this team is in the hunt and AA does nothing, it'll crush the spirits in the clubhouse and the fanbase.

To be fair...if you can handle watching Leafs games for past decade, you can handle watching Jays games lol

Yeah, maybe, I am totally pessimistic for good reason I think. My career as a sports fan has been pretty excruciating from about 1994 onward. Even when the Leafs were successful those playoff embarrassments against New Jersey, and Conf. Finals losses to Buffalo and Carolina.

Add to that, my time as an undergrad at the University of Oregon when Dennis Dixon blew out his knee with the Ducks sitting #2 in the nation, losing the National Championship to Auburn in 2010 in the final seconds on a mistaken incomplete tackle where Michael Dyer's knee wasn't quite down, Mariota injuring his knee right before the Stanford game last year. Jays last season, and for twenty years before that, Leafs two regular season collapses in three years, and last year's game 7.

I'm not nearly in Cubs fan territory, or Browns purgatory, but I'm a bit frazzled these days.

Quite an unexpected turnaround by Happ after he was awful in spring training and early in the season.

I think one reason for the turnaround and i've noticed this lately with the way the catchers are calling the games, but it seems to me that the fastball is being used more as the pitch that the starters work off of and then mix in their secondary pitches.

The pitch selection is far more aggressive this year than its been at any time within the last 5+ years or more.

                            R: 243
                            RA: 222
                            pW%: (R^2) / (R^2 + RA^2)
                            pW% = .545
                            G: 50
                            xW: 27
                            xL: 23

Pythagorean expectancy says we're right on track.

Well, we're lucky by 0.75 wins. Which is a rounding error. We're right on track. On pace for 88.3 wins. However, it's too early for this to mean a ton, so take this with a grain of salt.

Basebal gods, I pray you are merciful and keep this team healthy.

It's getting silly how every piece of this team is either fulfilling capacity or overachieving—even despite Hutch's rough outing. I mean, suddenly Anthony Gose is a legit contributor at the major league level?

It's like we were all a year too early proclaiming this a great team.

The one thing that really impresses me is that the defense has improved by leaps and bounds and EVERYONE is contributing in one way or another.

Oh, and if any team tries to hire Seitzer as a manager somewhere I move heaven and earth to keep him here. He's made a HUGE difference in the approach of the hitters.
