Re: 2014 Blue Jays
It was never going to happen, despite the rumored tire kicking, but I wonder how many HR's Ortiz would have hit at the Dome if his Dominican pals could have wooed him over.Comment

Re: 2014 Blue Jays
But I agree he should be starting not relieving.
It would be nice if we can stay the course until our wounded get healthy. If we get healthy and we're still like three games out we can make a real run at this. I'm not counting on any help via a trade.Comment

I'm sure that gets mentioned by Ortiz's agent every time Ortiz has sought a new contract from the Red Sox.Comment

Re: 2014 Blue Jays
Sanchez starting? Nooooooo thank you. You can take what you saw out of the pen last night and dial it back by 10%. He won't be touching 97 as a starter until he starts getting lower and using his lower half rather than depending on arm action for velocity.

Re: 2014 Blue Jays
bhurst99 Sanchez has an innings cap on him as he's pitched 100 innings in the minors and the Jays want him to only pitch 130 this year. I do like the idea of having him start out his major league career in the pen though as that's always been the history of the Jays with some of their pitchers. Lots of pretty good arms in Jays history have dipped their toes as relievers and became pretty good starters.
I think Sanchez will make some adjustments mechanics wise during the winter and make a strong push for a rotation spot. If you look at it the Jays have a potential corps of young starters that rivals what they did in the late '90s with Halladay, Carpenter and Escobar except I see the "Big Three" of Stroman, Sanchez and Norris staying here longer and having more team success. Hutchison can be thrown into the mix as part of that group but a lot of what i've seen over the last 5 starts have been troubling to say the least.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Stroman is the perfect example of someone who has come up this season and performed much better as a starter than a reliever.
But whatever. As long as we can find ways to keep winning it's all good.
This season is all about AC seeing the Jays get in the playoffs for the first time in his life. LOLComment

Whoa! Whoa! Who said anything about a win.
I was thinking more along the lines of we get the second wildcard, travel to Los Angeles and see Dickey allow four homers in a 9-2 loss.
Let's not go crazy here with all this playoff win talk.
It has been 21 years since the playoffs. Baby steps. LOLComment
