I could see the writing on the wall once we signed all those relievers. Infuriating that the price to get rid of that ****ing loser Upton was Craig ****ing Kimbrel. And on Opening Day Eve. That is so bitchmade.

We better not trade Freddie though I have no hope about that.

I just can't believe trading Kimbrel won't have any impact on the Braves starting lineup. He had years on his contact, he should pull MLB impact players and prospects.

Yeah that's my only problem with the trade. We have up the best player at his position in the game and only got back one prospect of any value. Even he has linked upside according to fangraphs.

It frees up a lot of cash but was that really necessary? They already cleared some payroll this offseason, uggla is off the books soon and all the centerpieces are already under control for a while. I would have preferred eating the Upton contract and received a return worthy of an a level player

The Braves wanted B.J. contract outta here that bad. The Padres are taking both of the salaries, almost $90 million. I don't know what we're going to do with it. A power bat in LF and I guess we can start looking for an impact CF for next year in free agency. Love Kimbrel. He had alot of charitable things going on in the city. He is on the West Coast. Go Padres & Cardinals. Oh yeah Go Braves! YaY.

From things I'm hearing this was the big thing. I think I saw Showtyme, if not him then someone else, say that Dodgers expressed interest Kimbrel but when told they had take Melvin and his contract as well the talks stopped after that. Joel Sherman said that Padres GM A.J. Preller says he tried negotiating a variety of possible trades to bring Kimbrel to San Diego, but the only way he could do it was to also take on Upton's contract.
So I think the 2 were a package deal, which hurt Kimbrel's value. Also closers do not have much value right now. Now around the deadline they probably would have gotten more because they would be more suitors and around that time people usually pay more for players.

                Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

Sports trades are dumb. Make zero sense. Price we had to pay to get out from under that Upton crap though. **** that guy.

I just wish we had one or two more pieces on offense, man. If we did and we factored in the loss of all the black holes on offense with all the strikeouts and whatnot gone, the team might not be in such bad shape even now.

I don't believe, especially in baseball, that you have to tear down the roster bare. It's the one sport conducive to rebuilding on the fly. I'm most pissed about leaving Freddie Freeman out to dry. He's the face of the franchise now and we basically said "**** you, you have to waste years of your career now." Also sucks for Simmons and Teheran. Yeah I know they signed nice contracts and they "can't complain" but all three were pretty much sold a bill of goods. Doesn't reflect well on the franchise in that regard.

5 draft picks in the Top 75 in June now, though. By the grace of God we hit on a Trout-like, Stanton-like player. I'd do anything for that.

I saw an interview with him today and the interviewer asked if he was afraid he was going to be traded next, Chris said "who knows." Chris Johnson isn't starting today at 3B. lol

By getting out of Upton's contract, they actually open up the possibility of a quick turnaround. We're set long term at 1b, 2b, Ss, hopefully catcher, and at least 3 rotation spots. Hopefully we can rebuild the OF in free agency quickly and add a top of the rotation type with all the money we have, to stabilize that rotation.

I just wonder what they plan on doing with the money. They had already cleared some money this off season and the core of this team is already locked up for the next few years. Outside of the 2 guys outfielders we traded this year there aren't really any impact position players in the upcoming free agency who are not on the wrong side of 30. There are a few interesting pitchers who could hit free agency, but that is not this team's weakness.

I guess it opens up trade possibilities?

                        Re: 2015 Atlanta Braves

I know this isn't a MLB The Show thread, but this could go either place so I'll stick it here.

I usually get a couple of seasons out of the game as I like to play every pitch. All these moves have really taken it out of me. I'm working with the roster the best I can to find realistic trades that make this roster somewhat competitive for 162 hours of my life, but man they are making it tough.

I'm going to give Hart a chance, and honestly don't mind waiting 2/3 years until we are competitive again for the division. At the same time, trying to virtually play with this team isn't a whole lot of fun. I play GM mode so I get building for the future, but man do I miss the days where I had to pick a different team to play because the Braves were too good.

I really really like our staff, especially if we can stay healthy, but we may only have 1 guy hit over 20HRs this season. I'm happy we have EY at the top of our lineup as it at least gives us a way to manufacture some runs IF he can actually get on base. At this point I'm just hoping Shelby Miller stays healthy all year and regains his pre-injury stuff.

If I remember correctly Liberty has to spend the money allocated each year on the Braves. They cannot do anything about it, they have to spend so much. They have to spend the salary money, so either they will be signing some people on the roster (but that seems unlikely as they already locked people up) or they will go get some players in trade or FA.

I can't find the link, but I remember when the Braves were trying to add revenue, they couldn't because the budget was set. The article stated that they had to spend so much money on the team each year and they couldn't spend more or less, I think it was a % of revenue. It had something to do with Liberty owning the team.
