    Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

I'm so sick of Bryan Price refusing to use Aroldis Chapman in high leverage situations.

Bottom of the ninth, two runners on, one out, Andrew McCutcheon at the dish. Let's keep Ryan Mattheus out there. I mean it worked out in the end, but still...Ryan Mattheus!!!

Chapman finally came in and pitched against the bottom of the Pirates order in the 11th. Did Price use a double switch so Chapman could work more than one inning?

Nope...Chapman needed 7 pitches to get through the inning. Chapman has pitched once in the past 9 days. Leake pinch hit for Chapman. Pedro Villareal came in to face the heart of the Pirates order. Again, it worked out in the end, but for being such a pitching guru...Price can not manage a bullpen.

His decisions, especially in the case of Chapman, are indefensible.

Easily my biggest knock against Price and his overall bullpen management has been atrocious. Which is weird because he was one of the best pitching coaches in baseball.

Unfortunately, baseball is a business and we'd like to be in the business of winning. Gotta put aside some of that personal love for players and do what's best for the team long term since the short term looks bleak.

I'll be rooting for the Reds long after Frazier is out of town and/or retired. I've always pledged my allegiance to the logo no matter what, and this is no different. Votto is probably one of my favorite players ever, but if we could move him for a king's ransom (no chance given the contract), I'd be on board with that too.

Everything about this year has been disastrous (as expected), it's amazing were as close to .500 as we are. And it sucks, because it creates the illusion we're within striking distance and shouldn't go full on sellers as we get closer to the trade deadline. Let's see how we botch this... team can't even use the DL right (Mesoraco fiasco... what a joke) so I'm not expecting much progressive thinking here.

I have been a fan of Frazier's long before he got drafted by the Reds. I have always been a avid follower of the LLWS ever since my LL days, and I remember Frazier from the LLWS, and followed him ever since those days, as I felt back then that this kid would be a big leaguer some day, and luckily it was my favorite team who drafted him.

It is still a business, so imo the Reds cant at this point put anyone as untouchable, although I do think Frazier should be close to untouchable unless someone offered a kings ransom for him.

Personally I don't think the Reds will trade Frazier, as I do believe he is part of the future and we have no one in the wings at 3rd base. Cueto has to be the top priority to move, and if they don't plan on keeping Leake then he needs to be traded too. As much as I hate to say this it might be Chapman that they really need to move, because he will bring back the most in return, and while he does sell tickets, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to pay a lot of money for a closer for any team especially not a small market team.

Mr C is the best owner we have had in my lifetime and Im almost 43. Marge did get us a WS title, but overall with the way she ran the team and lack of putting anything into the farm system, it wasn't sustainable, and with the way she handled Davey Johnson was about as bad as the way Sparky was treated when he was outed as manager. Carl Linder, need I say more as to what a bad owner is,lol.

Its no different than what any other manager typically does during the regular season. Personally I don't agree with it, as imo you use the best relievers available and not hang on waiting for a save opportunity or you might not get that chance.

Price early in the season made some questionable bullpen decisions, but he has improved on his handling of the pen. It was surprising that Price would ever have any questionable bullpen decisions considering how good a pitching coach he has been over the years, but he has improved on it, and the pen while not great has been fairly descent for a while now.

Some how we are slowly climbing back to .500 and in the thick of the WC race, which is surprising with all the injuries. So that's a positive we are fighting even with the injuries we have. Personally if I was GM or owner Im not sure by looking at this team that I would say hey we have a shot lets keep this team intact and try to be a buyer, I still think I would trade guys that don't have a future here to make sure I get more than a Comp pick for Cueto and Leake. But I do think it shows the guys are fighting for the manager and haven't given up.

                  Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

So Hamilton has 40 SB's, Frazier's got a boatload of HR's, Votto's returned to form mostly, and Cueto is his usual near Cy Young self... yet we're as bad as we've been over the past 7-8 years.

This team is full of individuals. All the little things we don't do, we're leaving runs and wins on the table left and right and management is making it as difficult as possible.

Am I completely off base to think in an alternate reality, this is a very good team if it had better direction? It's just not clicking. If ever a team needed a change. I think I'll be cool with whatever changes we do make because at least something is being done. Watching the same tired, losing lineup day in and day out is tough. You can't build an empire in a day but damn, something has gotta give.

Shows how horrible our bench is when Leake bats for himself before being taken out of the game.

Talk about a pitcher ruining his trade value this year.

Yeah, Leake isn't helping himself this yr with FA around the corner. Leake has really been inconsistent this season, typically Leake in his career has been steady and consistent while being able to keep us in games, luckily the offense was clicking last night. He has had some very good games this season, but he has had about as many stinkers too.

Its a shame the way things have played out so far, but then again I knew we had a lot of ifs, and needed basically everything to go right, and too many injuries and not enough talent unfortunately for us to have much hope of finishing any higher than 4th place in the division.

I know Mr C is a optimist but imo the need to start planning for next season, and forget about trying to make the postseason this yr now.

I think your playing with fire holding out hope, especially with Cueto, his next outing goes well, they need to really start pushing him on the trading block, before he ends up on the DL for a while, and we end up getting only a comp pick for him.

Might as well spend the rest of this season getting good looks at the young kids, and move Byrd so his contract doint become guaranteed for next season along with any of the players that they don't plan on having back next season. Bring up Yorman Rodriguez and get a good look at him, and Waldrop probably could be brought up and take a look at what he does against big league pitching. Winker is struggling, and Robert Stephenson is too, so probably best leaving them in the minors, but Yorman I bring up for sure since he is having a solid season and got a taste last yr of the bigs. I just cant see this team turning things around to where we would have a sure shot at the postseason, even though we are right in the thick of things somehow, I just don't see this team being able to grab a WC.

Price's mismanagement of the pitching staff is maddening. You have 8 bullpen arms, so you throw your rookie pitcher back out there with 110 pitches to let him get crushed.

I doubt they will trade him before the All Star game, and since that isn't until July 14th, I would imagine we will see another start for Cueto, possibly 2 more.

That's my thinking as well, unless they just happen to get a offer before then that they cant pass up. Plus since somehow we are in the WC hunt they might want to see until after all star break where we at before trading the Ace away. If they feel there is a good shot at a WC I could see then keeping things intact until right at trade deadline before doing anything. Mr C is a very optimistic guy, so hard telling what he thinks at this time. IMO the eye test says this team has no real shot at a WC, and its risky keeping a guy around like Cueto who has already had some elbow inflammation this season. Im sure the Reds have been fielding several calls about Cueto already, but I could see teams being skeptical of giving up a lot for a guy who hasn't ever pitched back to back 200+ innings in a season and already had a couple starts pushed back this season.

It will be sad to see Cueto not a Red at some point, as in my lifetime anyway Cueto has been the most dominating pitcher the Reds have had since Tom Seaver. Rijo had a short run before major injuries kicked in, where as Cueto has had a longer stretch run over these past few seasons where when he has pitched he has been 1 of the top pitchers in all of baseball.
