The Reds need to build for 2018. They have good young pitching. A lot of it. Stephenson has ace material. They will have Bailey for better or worse. Iglesias/DeScalfini/Lorenzen/Garrett/Moscot all have bright futures. Even Barrett Austin, a fill in from the Broxton trade is having a very good year and could be one to watch. Hoover looks like a closer right now.
Suarez, despite his defense, looks good so far. Push comes to shove, they can move him to second if Cozart keeps hitting like he did this year next year.
They have Winker and Yorman Rodriguez who have been solid so far in the minors. So was Phil Ervin before he got hurt.

If the Reds trade Chapman, Cueto, Parra, Pena and Leake (at the minimum), they should get 3-4 top 100 prospects back, plus a couple other mid level guys. The Reds have done a very good job of getting their farm system to the major leagues. Votto/Mes/Hamilton/Bruce/Cozart/Frazier. That is 6 opening day starters.

Not much of a fan of Ervin, but looked better this yr before he got injured. Winker is struggling this season, but I do think he will be fine and a solid big leaguer. Robert Stephenson in his brief MILB career has been inconsistent, but there is no denying he has top of the rotation stuff. I was big on him before we drafted him, but he has had his struggles. I like Travieso a lot as well. Waldrop is another guy that should be a solid big League OF'er. IF'ers is where our farm system is weak. Suarez has swung the bat better than I thought he would, personally I wasn't to big on getting him back in that trade, but he has hit actually better than I thought he would, although his D is just what I thought, not very good, but he has the ability I believe to improve upon his D. Tyler Stephenson we got int he 1st rd in this yrs draft I think in time will be a good player, but wonder about his size if he will stick at catcher, he is a big boy, but so is Sal Perez, so he could stick at catcher, and he is a good defensive catcher with a strong arm, but obviously coming out of high school, he is a ways away from the bigs.

I do think Billy will eventually get it, still too early to tell yet, and definitely too early to give up on him. Even if Billy just could have a OBP of say .320, he would make a big impact at the top of the order for us. I think next yr will be the yr that Billy needs to show a big improvement before worrying about him being a bust. Might not even hurt to ship him to AAA this yr after AS break, sometimes that will wake a kid up, and Delino is the guy he really needs to be working with.

Too bad Cueto didn't get in, but still there is a chance for him with the final vote. Probably having his starts pushed back a couple times hurt him from making it because he stats are good enough to be a AS. Had hoped Cueto would get the nod to start the game, but there is a few guys definitely more deserving this season to start the game. Hopefully Cueto gets in with the final vote.

Amazing we can get our asses handed to us at home by the Brewers for 3 games, yet beat the Nats in their ball park, lol.

Im not 1 to usually give up quite this early with where we are in the WC chances, but this team is done IM afraid. Really hope owners and Walt start looking to next yr and beyond, rather than holding out hope this team gets going, because sadly its not going to happen.

I hope he doesn't win the final vote. One, Kershaw is clearly more deserving. Two, I don't want him going out there and getting hurt.

          That would be our luck.

Reds recalled Yorman Rodriguez. I hope he gets regular playing time. Since June 1st, he's been slashing .322/.370.449 with 4HR and a .819 OPS. Might mean the BHam experiment is over for now. Send him down to AAA, get him to drop switch-hitting. That .559 OPS just looks as horrible as it sounds.

Josh Smith optioned back to Pensacola. Smith's spot comes up in the rotation on Thursday, and the projected started is TBA. I wonder how good he is?

Or can we start a Stephenson watch? Or Iglesias more likely?

Rodriguez will come up and not play once, then get sent back down in a few days when they need another starter. Another Dust.. I mean Bryan Price special.

I realize that Adrian Gonzalez is having a far better year with the bat and those flashy numbers get him on the NL team over Votto.

But Votto is having a gold glove-caliber year and it's a shame they couldn't find a place for him.

Had Votto not slumped hard in May (and the last couple weeks also), he probably would've made it.

But hey, take the 3 days off, relax, recharge the batteries, play with your moose Nibbles and have a big second half.

I wouldn't say clearly more deserving, lets also remember Cueto has gotten the shaft before on being a AS thanks to Larussa, and this game is at GABP. Its a close call on those 2, but lets be honest take away Postseason and Madbum shouldn't be on over Cueto or Kershaw.

The selfish me would rather Cueto not play due to injury risk, but at this point were pushing the envelope every time we run him out there, so a inning in the AS game isn't all that big a deal really.

What a start by Cueto. Lets hope that it is his final start and he gets traded to a contender that wins the series. The best pitcher of the last 25 years for the Reds deserves that. It'll be a shame not watching him pitch every 5 days once he is gone.

                    Agreed!

I also hope that this last outing not only squashes any health concerns but also boosts his value even more and we get some very good players in return.

That was a good trade for the Reds. They got 2 good years and another above average one. They then got 5 more years in DeScalfini & whatever Chad Wallach does. That trade is more a negative indicator on the Padres, as 3 of those guys are now producing elsewhere, and the one guy they did keep (Alonso), they traded a much better player in Rizzo once they got him.

They have been trying to move Bruce since last winter, so I figured they are still looking to move him if they cant get something halfway descent. Bruce has been coming around and looking more like his old self, so that should help being able to move him.

We actually has some OF prospects on the farm that's getting close and Yorman just got the callup. Actually we are probably the deepest in OF prospects of any position, even including pitching. Obviously some are still a little ways off like Junior Arias and Aquino, but Waldrop and even with Winker struggling this season are close to being ready, as I think Winker will bounce back, the kid can hit.

What may help any returns is that most of the league is still in it. Some team is gonna pay out the *** to get a Cueto, Bruce, Frazier just to block a rival from doing the same on top of getting a good player.

                              Hopefully.

I think Cueto will end up moving to one of those AL East teams. Bruce too. Think Frazier will stick around. Probably deal some spare parts as well (Pena, maybe Hoover?).

Probably after the ASG. Keep the fans engaged in the year you host it, profit. Then hopefully sell after you rake in that dough.

Fine by me. He hasn't shown any improvement in years. Is doing better this year though. I'm still hoping they are able to get rid of BP's deal in a Cueto/Chapman deal.
