Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
Went to the game tonight and another tough loss from the bullpen. Doesn't help that they were 0-14 with RISP. I don't understand why Cingrani isn't ever used. What is it 11 days now or something? 11th inning Price brings in Badenhop with Soler (R), Rizzo (L), Bryant (R), and Herrera (S) up to hit. LHB bat .276/.361/.425 against Badehop, Badenhop is a one inning 7th inning sort of guy. Wouldn't this have been a perfect situation to bring Cingrani in for a few innings, especially with Rizzo up 2nd in the 11th!?
Jocketty just can't build a bullpen. This is the the Reds bullpen compared to other NL Central teams this year:
Reds $23.12 million/41.1 IP/5.01 ERA (30th)
Cardinals $13.25 million/37.1 IP/1.69 ERA (2nd)
Cubs $11.31 million/49.0 IP/3.31 ERA (13th)
Pirates $12.84 million/48.0 IP/3.94 ERA (22nd)Comment

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
I applauded the signing of Badenhop, but my goodness, a sinker ball pitcher who can't keep the ball down is useless. He's not finishing off his pitches, and maybe it's time to solve this down in Louisville. 7 runs is about as low leverage as you can get, and Badenhop is a walking gasoline can.
How to fix the bullpen? Start by calling up LeCure and Iglesias. Second, get rid of bullpen 'roles'. Price has been more conventional than I thought he would be given by comments he has made (I get the feeling Uncle Walt may have a role in this as old school as he is).
Hindsight being 20/20, but my have the tables flipped. Bailey got the contract because he was healthier (and hey, he threw two no-hitters) than Cueto. Bailey back to the DL, while we'll probably be saying 'see ya' to Cueto.
And it's been 17 days since Mesoraco has started as a catcher....why has he been on the active roster Walt???????Comment

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
The management of this roster is a crash course in ineptitude.
We can't get the simple things right.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
Reds are promoting 2013 first round Michael Lorenzen to take Bailey's spot in the rotation.
Seeing that Lorenzen is not on the 40-man roster, that could possibly mean Homer being shifted to the 60-day DL, or someone else being outrighted off the 40-man roster.Comment

I also thought the Badenhop signing wasn't a bad thing, he was solid last season, but man he sucks this yr, Gregg had a couple solid seasons and while I don't blame Walt for either signings, I do blame Price for continuing to run these 2 guys out there, yet Cingrani sits. Gregg's deal isn't that much, so they should just DFA him, he is worthless. Badenhop contract unfortunately makes him a lock to stay probably no matter what.
They could remove 1 of the bullpen bums and add Iglesias, and surely there is 1 or 2 other guys in the minors capable of being better than what we have got so far out of Badenhop, Gregg,Parra, and Jumbo.
I know some say Lecure, and I love Sammy, but he isn't doing to well in AAA, and hasn't been right since the 1st half of last season. Its one thing to lose velocity, but he is also struggling with command, which was never a issue before with him.
It seems anytime a player signs a big contract they end up injured, so not surprised after Homer having the forearm issue last season that he is out now with TJ. As great as Cueto is its why I wouldn't want to break the bank to resign him, because its probably only a matter of time before he has a major arm injury, and you can bet if we give him a new deal he will end up injured.
As bad as the bullpen has been and how inconsistent the offense is, its a surprise were hanging around .500. On top of Price making some questionable pitching decisions out of the pen. Although he has started to use Cingrani, finally so maybe he has his bullpen figured out now, but it will take more than Chapman, and 1 or 2 other out of the pen for us to compete for Postseason, let alone the division.
Its too bad we don't have the pitching we had in 12 and 13, because even with the offense not being all that good, its probably the best offense weve had for a few years. I think if Mesoraco can ever get healthy to where he can play daily, we could have a descent offense, especially with Cozart actually hitting. Not sure if that will last with Cozart, but he seems more like the hitter he was when he got called up, than what he was last season. Doubtful he hits .280 all season, but if he hits .260+ with some pop, that will be sufficient with solid D at short from him.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
No kidding, in all my years I never remember a GM making his manager play shorthanded more than Walt does to his manager, he did it with Dusty and he does the same to Price.
With Mez they feel they have no better option in the minors off the bench, so that's why they said Mez hasn't went to the DL, says a lot about how poor our farm system is
Its a shame to see Cozart have a injury like this with how well he has hit this season so far. Hopefully it heals up quickly and don't cause him much issues.Everyone who exalts themselves will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted- Luke14-11

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
Mesoraco should have been on the DL from day one, and Falu should have been called up. He killed spring training pitching and he's doing the same in triple a. Jocketty is a ******* though so he'll let some other team steal him.
I don't know if you guys heard, but Lutz is out for the year now with Tommy John surgery. That's another guy they have ruined by never giving him an actual chance.

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
The Mesoraco situation is ridiculous, but back to the bullpen...
Price actually "managed" the bullpen on Saturday night, and they won. Marquis pitched one out into the 7th before he brought in Diaz for 2 right-handed hitters, then after Jumbo allowed a hit, Price brought in Cingrani to get the third out against a left-handed hitter. Cingrani pitched 8th also with 2/3 hitters being lefties. That's how the bullpen should be managed, and I'd like to see more of that in close games.Comment

Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds
Man, we saw all facets of Chapman tonight....walk the bases loaded....strike out the side. But hey, he hadn't pitched in a week. That's right, the best arm in the bullpen....hadn't seen him in a week.
I'm just amazed by Bryan Price. Never would've believed that him, a pitching coach of all people, would do pretty well with his day-to-day lineups....but can't manage a freaking bullpen to save his life.
And they might as well flay Mesoraco's hip open. Just get it over with.Comment
