Jeff Pico and Jay Bell gone. Not surprising on Bell. Riggleman is the new bench coach, while Billy Hatcher moves over to third.

Yeah it does make you said as a Reds fan after reading that. I have been saying for a couple years now that the Reds real issues don't necessarily lay on the manager, whether it was Dusty or now Price. Its a organizational issue as to why were not as successful as we could be.

Yes we have some talented players, but most of those talented players were actually under former GM Wayne K. and not Walt. Now Walt has done some good things, so its not like he is completely incompetent, but I think the lack of advancing with the times is not something Walt imbraces 100%. Now Im not a guy who thinks all those new advanced metrics are the greatest thing since sliced bread, but the use of some of them can be very helpful, especially for a small market with not a lot of money to spend to buy big name talent, so the use of tools that can dig and find diamonds in the rough are essential to you sustaining success as a organization.

We have talent, but we don't have depth, and when you get bit with the injury bug and have no depth your not going to win, and its rare to not have some issues with injuries. Got lucky in 12 and to a extent in 13 with not having many injuries, that don't happen to teams often.

I think Walt made some good moves this year, but still I would have liked owner to clean house, as imo we need a new philosophy starting with GM and throut the farm system. Cards have success even with a lot of injuries because of depth, and because they have the right approach from day1 of when they become Cardinals. I don't think our organization has the right approach from day1, and reason why we haven't been as successful as we could have been considering some of the talent at the big league level.

        Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

Glad to see the Nats hire Dusty. I had actually told my wife before the regular season was over that the Nats should fire Matt Williams and hire Dusty. It just seemed with the talent they have and the type of manager Dusty is that it would be a good fit for him, and a chance for him to finally win that WS that has eluded him as a manager. I was surprised at how bad Matt Williams was as a manager, had thought he would be a good one, but after watching him in 14 manage I had changed my mind, he actually made Price look like a good manager, although I do have hope Price will improve, he better in 16 or he wont get another shot to manage that's for sure, lol.

I really didn't think anyone would give Dusty another shot since it seems most of the organizations lean on new school analytics and Dusty basically has no use for them, but I will definitely be rooting for Dusty's team as long as they aren't playing the Reds that is. Dusty might have some flaws as a manager like having to much trust in certain players, but he also has some positives as a manager as well, as you don't win over 1600 games by being a incompetent fool.

Im glad there was a change made at GM, Walt over his years in baseball has did some good things, but I have over the past couple years thought that the game might have past him up some, and we needed to get a little younger and someone that is warm to the new analytics, to a extent, as Im not a full fledge fan of the ndew school thinking, but I do think there is some good things to take from some of it mixing it in with what has been a part of baseball forever.

While there is a new GM, Walt is still President of baseball ops, so more than likely still has final say on things, outside of ownership that is. Considering they have worked together for several years now, Id say the do have a good relationship, and it was probably more Walt wanting to take a step back on workload, than it was ownership feeling they needed a new GM considering Walt still keeps his President of baseball ops.

I do think its a step in the right direction though with a younger GM, hopefully its a smooth transition.

It's the nephew of the owners. He originally got a job because of that. What a joke. If they interviewed a bunch of guys and came to this conclusion it would be slightly better, but still not good. I hate the ownership of this team.

Ill wait to see what the guy can do before being critical of him or the hire, and lets b honest Walt is still President of the team, so typically that means they have final say on things.

As for ownership, this is the best owners we have had in a long time. Not sure how old you are, but I assume your old enough to remember the Carl Linder days, now that's bad ownership right there. I know things these past 2 years haven't gone well, but that's how it goes sometimes for small markets, when your farm system isn't up to par and you have to deal with a over amount of injuries.

Depending on how this winters goes, I would think we will be better in 16, but unfortunately its probably going to be a couple years anyway before this team can actually compete in the division again, with the Cubs being young and better managed now along with the always steady Cards, plus Pirates are fairly young and have a solid farm so they should be strong for a few more years anyway.

I get what your saying, typically hiring of family and/or friend doesn't end up well, but he has been with the organization for several years now, so its not like they are just bringin him in. Considering how the past 2 years have gone, I would like to think its a change for the better in the long run. It sounds like he is more of a new school numbers guy, and while Im not 100% into that new age thinking, I do feel there is place for it with the way its been done forever.

It has been made clear that Walt still has final say for this year anyway, so I doubt we will get a feel for Williams until Walt is gone. Not that Im totally against Walt, he has did some good things while here, but I do believe its time for him to step down. From the sounds of it this was more or less Walt wanting to take a step back but not quite ready to retire for good, but moving forward I do see Walt doing less and less each year.

Unfortunately Id say we have a lot of work to do before we can actually compete again in the division, especially with the typical loser Cubs being young and good, along with having 1 of the best 3 managers in the game in Maddon, so sadly it might be a few years, as Pirates have a solid foundation on the farm and the Cards, well they are seemingly always good.

                        Re: 2015 Cincinnati Reds

The Reds are willing to listen to trade offers on everyone from Aroldis Chapman to Todd Frazier. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.

The Reds are willing to listen to trade offers for virtually any player on their roster, according to a pair of reports from C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. While there was some hesitation to embark on a complete fire sale prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, sources tell Rosenthal that owner Bob Castellini is now on board with the idea that a more dramatic retooling of the roster is needed.

“I don’t know if we’re in a position to say there’s any untouchables,” president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty told Rosecrans. “There’s certainly guys who would be much more difficult to move, but we have to be open minded to whatever we can do to improve the club for the long term.” Jocketty said the Reds have made it “pretty explicit” to other teams that they’re open for trades.

Jocketty told the pair of reporters that at entering the season and even this summer, the Reds “wanted to be somewhat protective of our club,” but the year didn’t pan out as hoped. Asked by Rosenthal if he was ready to trade Aroldis Chapman and Jay Bruce after backing down on trade scenarios involving that pair prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, Jocketty responded, “I would say probably.”

The availability of Chapman and Bruce has been widely expected, but Rosenthal further tweets that the Reds will even be open-minded on third baseman and reigning Home Run Derby champion Todd Frazier, who is under control for two more seasons.

Frazier, 30 in February, had a monstrous first half (.284/.337/.585, 25 homers) but slumped badly following the All-Star break (.220/.274/.390, 10 homers). His cumulative season batting line was still strong, and when paired with his plus defense at third base it led to a strong overall year worth about four wins above replacement, per Baseball-Reference and Fangraphs. But, the second half was a nonetheless disappointing outcome for Frazier, who looked to be on the verge of a superstar-caliber breakout.

Frazier will earn $7.5MM in 2016 — the second season of a two-year contract signed to buy out his first two seasons of arbitration. The former supplemental first-round pick can’t become a free agent until after the 2017 season, so any club interested in trading for him would be picking up two years of club control at a highly reasonable rate.

Chapman is controlled for the 2016 season only, with MLBTR contributor Matt Swartz projecting a $12.9MM salary in his final trip through the arbitration process. Bruce is owed $12.5MM in 2016 and has a $13MM club option ($1MM buyout) for the 2017 season.

Those three players represent the Reds’ most logical impact trade chips, as the remaining $199MM on Joey Votto‘s contract is daunting even after his MVP-caliber rebound season in 2015. Votto’s contract also comes with a full no-trade clause, further complicating the thought of trading him. Brandon Phillips would make a logical trade candidate, as he, too, enjoyed a nice rebound season, making the remaining two years and $27MM on his contract look fairly reasonable. However, Phillips has 10-and-5 rights (10 years of service time, including five straight with his current team), thus affording him full trade veto power as well.

While Jocketty, of course, won’t tip his hand as to what he’d seek in return for pieces such as Chapman, Bruce and Frazier, it seems that the idea in Cincinnati is to aim for a quick turnaround as opposed to a lengthy Astros/Cubs-style rebuild. Said Jocketty to Rosecrans and Rosenthal: “…I think we really started at the deadline knowing that ’16 was going to be a transition year and ’17 and ’18 will be the timeframe we think will be able to be stronger and more competitive.”
They have, have, have, have to move Chapman and Phillips this offseason.
The should also entertain the idea of trading Bruce and Frazier.
Acquire a quality free agent pitcher, to flip at midseason.
                        Acquire an outfielder or two.
Acquire more power arms for the bullpen on the cheap.

That should be the Reds offseason.

Frazier, Chapman and Bruce should have been traded during the season. Especially Frazier. We could got a top 5 prospect plus more if he was traded after that home run derby. He still should get multiple top 100 guys. Chapman should get at least one. BP and Bruce might get a marginal guy back but the salary relief will help.

I think it was just one of those things, where they just didn't want to have to say rebuild, and I cant really blame them, its not fun for them or fans to know your probably have no shot to compete for atleast 2 years if your lucky.

Plus with Chapman, you got a guy who sells tickets, so while they should have traded him at trade deadline this year, so you would have had teams fighting for postseason being desperate to have him and giving you a lot in return. I can feel for them on struggling to make that move with him being a ticket seller and basically a side show, with being the hardest thrower in history, but unfortunately he is the 1 guy that I think they Reds have no choice but to move.

Odd to hear that Larussa would be interested in having BP on his team. I think at this stage of BP's career, that while he loves Cincy, I can see him waiving his rights to go to the right team that has alegit chance to win.

Wouldn't surprise me if at some point Votto don't say hey if you can move me to a winner do it, I could definitely see that if Votto feels this rebuild will take very long.

I do think with all the young quality arms we have and them getting a head start this past season, that we could be ahead of the curve on rebuilding, as you win with pitching and defense.

I don't think Chapman sells nearly as many tickets as you think he does. People can't go to a game and know he's going to pitch. I hope they don't move Votto. They owe him a ridiculous amount, and he's coming off of the best offensively season in Reds history. He will be able to get on base at a decent clip until he's 50. Unless a team wants to give up the farm AND take that contract on, then it's a different story. BP was good last year, but he should have been traded after he complained about Votto getting a big contract imo.
