    Official Cincinnati Reds Thread

With yesterdays 10-0 drubbing of the Cleveland Indians to start off Cactus League play, I figured it would be as good a time as any to get the 2015 thread going.
    ----

He may have been a polarizing figure while he was with the Cincinnati Reds, but this is a great article on the Kid.

Fifteen years ago last month, the telephone rang, general managers Pat Gillick and Jim Bowden conferred, and one of the most monumental deals in baseball history was completed. Ken Griffey Jr., as much a part of Seattle as Puget Sound, was going home. To Cincinnati.

That's a great article on Jr. I can still remember when the trade went down, I was so excited he was coming home where he belonged in Cincinnati. Things didn't go how any of us expected, but Im 1 of the few it seems who don't hold it against Jr for what happened. Injuries can derail the best of them, and there was no doubt for several years he was the best player on the planet and 1 of the greatest of all time. Plus unlike others Griffey did it the right way and didn't cheat the game by using PED's.

Price announced today that Cingrani is starting the season in the bullpen and that they will start stretching Iglesias out so that he can start.

Guess that means the #4 and #5 spots will go to Iglesias and DeSclafini with Marquis or Maholm filling in for Bailey till he gets to full strength.

Or will Iglesias be the fill in for Bailey, and then they'll send him to the minors to continue working on being a starter?

        ----
And Pete Rose has officially applied for reinstatement again. Come on Manfred, do the right thing and reinstate him.

Marquis? What a dumpster fire Reds. We'll be lucky to win 70 games this year. Should have traded Cueto while he still had value this offseason. Same goes for Chapman.

My guess is we start the season with both Marquis and Maholm in the rotation, and either Desclafani or Iglesias for Homer until he is back. Since the young guys have options and the 2 old guys don't, it makes sencse to do that, even though Im not too excited about Marquis and even less with Maholm, lol. Both have had their good moments and maybe we catch lighting in a bottle with 1 or both. So far both have looked good in Spring Training, for what that's worth, but better than stinking I guess, lol. Im sure they will have short leashes and if they stink for long they will be out and replaced with 1 of the young guys.

You figure Lorenzen and Iglesias and for that matter probably Desclafani all have innings limits, so its not like they could start every game in their rotation spot.

I wont be surprised to see Lorenzen or Iglesias in the pen at some point, possibly both even, if they aren't in the rotation.

This season is going to a major bummer... hopefully we start off hot or something so there can be some excitement. We're just stuck in purgatory between having some really good players, but not enough to contend in what is a really strong (and still improving) division. We might be able to win the East, but in the Central 4th place seems like our best bet.

I miss Houston in our division.

Homer Bailey, Sean Marshall, and Jason Bourgeois to the DL.

Kinda shocking that Sam LeCure got outrighted to Louisville (he did accept the assignment), but his velocity is still down and as he showed last year, he can't keep hitters off balance like he used to.

Yeah I was shocked and feel bad for Lecure, always have liked him even before he made it too the bigs. While his velocity is down, its his lack of commanding his signature 2 seamer that has hurt him more than anything from what Price stated.

Really thought Lorenzen would make it, and would have preferred him to Iglesias, but with all the guys who weren't on the 40 man to make the team, I think hurt Lorenzen since he wasn't on the 40 man. I just don't think Iglesias will be all that good this yr, but hopefully Im wrong. I figure he will either go down or go to the pen when Homer is back.

I figure even if we stay healthy with the pitching staff that we might see guys moving up and down this season. Pitching not as clear cut as we have been use to the past few years. I just hope the bullpen don't suck like it did last season, that was horrible to watch. You basically knew when Hoover or basically any of them came in besides Chapman that we would lose, especially when Hoover came in,lol.

Badenhop and Hoover have neither impressed this spring. I thought going into spring that Hoover would bounce back cause up until last yr he was 1 of the better relievers in baseball, and even though I never cared for Badenhop I thought he was a solid pickup as he did have a good season. Now I kind of think both are worthless, although Hoover as of late look like he might be turning the corner, but Im not holding my breath that happens.

Yeah that's the lineup I had in mind when we got Byrd, that I thought would be the best, other than I hit Votto 3rd with Frazier 2nd. If healthy Votto is still the best overall hitter on the team.

Kevin Gregg is awful. Always has been. Why did we sign him again?

And Price said he'd consider using Chapman for more than one inning this year. Wasn't even warming up during the meltdown in the 8th.

I know I sound like a broken record, but I get sick and tired of seeing one of the best arms in baseball being used so little by Dusty Price.

With a off day I don't know why Price didn't have Chapman ready, considering he said when he took over that was something he wanted to utlize more than Dusty would, but he is doing the same thing, lol.

I get not wanting to do it too much, but he has been throwing more than 1 inning during spring, and with a off day there wasn't any reason why Chapman shouldn't have been ready to bail Gregg out.

Cueto gets screwed again because of a crappy bullpen, if I was him, I would be looking forward to getting out of here when his contract is up Between the lack of offense the past few seasons, and last yrs crappy pen, Cueto has had a lot of ruined games where he dint get a win he should have.
