Re: Official Boston Red Sox 2005 Thread

I like the Olerud move. He is a superior defensive First Baseman and it's not like we're breaking the bank signing him to a minor league deal. With Jeremi Gonzalez being called up today we were forced to DFA David McCarty. Olerud serves as insurance if he doesn't clear waivers or decides not to report to Pawtucket for any reason.

I feel bad for McCarty in this case. The guy has done everything we've asked but just can't seem to stay in the majors. In his 3 seasons with the Red Sox he's batting .286 with 5 HR's and 25 RBI's in 182 at bats. Project that over 500 at bats and he's numbers aren't too much worse than Millar's. Sadly, if he was lefthanded, he'd be a lock.

Gonzalez and Halama have delivered, surprisingly, but the Sox are 1-1 with them on the mound (thanks Neal). Mirabellie hit the fourth grand slam of the year by the Red Sox last night, thats a pretty high number and we're only in May.

I loved the move to put Mirabelli at DH last night vs the RH. Ortiz is struggling and Doug kills LHP so it made sense. Even if, god forbid, Tek gets hurt you'd only be without the DH for a couple at bats.

Gonzalez and Halama filled in very well. The bullpen allowed more runs than they did. It looks like Wade Miller will get the start Sunday. It should be interesting to see what he can do. I'd be happy if he could give us something in the 4.00 ERA range this year. I'm assuming this means Gonzalez will head back to Pawtucket.

Gonzalez will start saturday against the Mariners, if he has another good outing like he did on monday he may stick with the team which could make Blaine Neal the odd man out. Neal has been awful so far this season, with an ERA of 9.00 he has allowed 7 earned runs in 7 innings.

Wade Miller looked good in his final tune up in Pawtucket last night he pitched 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits walking 4 and striking out 7.

I wouldn't say thats looking good. Four walks indicates his command isn't where it should be.

I'll be at the game Saturday. I'm kind of wishing Miller was starting then, hopefully Ginzalez doesn't stink up the place.

Neal has been awful and he's hard to figure out. He's got a pretty good 2-seamer with some great movement on it but his command is just plain terrible. And he doesn't have a reliable second pitch, from what I've seen. Maybe he could get in some games at the Triple A level and figure it out, though he's kind of past that point in his career.

I'm guessing if Gonzalez stays, that would send Halama back to the bullpen? Blaine Neal is definitely the odd man out. He's just a garbage time pitcher now as it is so no big loss.

Most likely Halama would go back to the 'pen. Gonzalez only has 3 career relief appearences, he could be put in the bullpen but i think it will be halama.

Francona has already said Halama is going back to the pen. He'll probably be available to pitch over the weekend.

Renteria just came out of the game vs Detroit. He tried to bunt and took the ball off his right index finger. This is just what we need with Vazquez not completely healthy either.

What's with Ortiz questioning every strike call against him lately? He's turning into Paul O'Neil.

Good win today for the Red Sox. Arroyo had a no hitter into the 7th and ended up going 8 Innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Sox finish the road trip 5-2 after taking 3/4 from Detroit.

Still not word on Renteria. Hopefully he's fine since Vazquez is beat up as well.

Yea, I noticed this too. Get in the game Big Papi.

Of course hitting game winning 2 out doubles will give you a pardon

Well to be fair for todays game, the strike zone was a little....erratic

It was fun watching Arroyo try to nail down a no-no. It was kind of funny because after the second inning I joked to my friend "Arroyo's got a no-hitter going!" I didn't think he would take it as far as he did.

Not a bad road trip. Hopefully they win with Clement tonight because there is no telling what they're going to get out of Gonzalez and Miller over the weekend.

Nice outing tonight by Clement and strong run support for the Sox. I know Moyer had pitched well this season coming into tonight's game, but I knew the Sox offense would get to him. Though I was surprised to see Manny do little damage to the veteran southpaw.
