I hear what you are saying. As a Charlotte fan this year, we have the same issues. Stumbled horriblely out of the gate and have strung together streaks of 3-5 wins broken up by some bad losses all season long. Inconsistancy is definitely more frusterating that just having an untalented team. That is one thing, but when you have the talent, but just can't put it together, it makes for a VERY frustrating season. We were in the same position before our Richmond loss, we weren't playing well, but there was still some hope. Tough to believe the hope, but with Xavier's talent a huge run isn't out of the question and taking the A10 tourny also isn't out of the question.

But yeah, in the end it looks like we'll both be watching NIT games some mid-March Here's hoping both of our teams don't lose a game until they meet each other in the A10 championship game

Amazing game, Temple didn't miss in the first half, couldn't make a shot in the second. They made Curtis Withers a complete non-factor offensively(still 13+ rebounds), but our shooters took over in the 2nd half to pull out the win. Down by 11 at the half, win by 6 or so, too much stress for me, but I'll take it.

The A10 keeps knocking each other out of NCAA contention(except GW of course), Temple was the best shot at another bid, but then they lose. Someone needs to knock off GW in the A10 tourny to get a 2nd team in the dance.

And for the record, I thought tonight was a lost cause before the game for Charlotte. Temple's height and 3 point shooting reminded me of Xavier, but luckily we stepped it up on D and they stopped hitting their shots.

Well looks like XU might have lost Brian Thornton for the rest of his senior year. Apparently someone from LaSalle fell into his knee and he might have torn his ACL. Interestingly enough, X has played the rest of the game today with a smaller lineup that hasn't been half bad. Losing BT is a huge blow though. X is still losing with a couple of minutes to go...

EDIT: Thornton didn't tear his ACL. He has a broken ankle. I wish Carson Palmer had done the same thing rather than what actually happened.

btw, Jason Williams (the Duke one) is one of the commentators for this game, I didn't even know he was calling games. Last I heard he was still trying to make a comeback earlier this season. He's pretty bad as a commentator, btw.

Xavier shoots themselves in the foot again, Thorton's injury sends them to the NIT along with a bunch of other A10 teams. GW cruising along, no real tests left, get second place Charlotte, but it is at home on senior night, shouldn't be a contest at all. Temple is the only team with any shot at an at-large bid with a top 60 RPI and a game against Duke left. If they take care of their 3 A10 games left(they should on paper), they will be sitting top 50 RPI, 17-11 going into the A10 tounry. A trip to the finals would probably lock up a bid.

People seem to WANT to give the A10 more than one bid this year, but no team seems to want to earn it. Charlotte, La Salle & St. Louis all killed themselves with terrible OOC losses. St. Joe's has the RPI, but can't beat anybody(which is one of the many reasons I HATE the RPI!!!!). Temple still has a chance, but in all honesty should have already locked it up by now, those St. Louis and UMass losses are killing them.

More interesting may be the A10 POY chase. It would be almost impossible for a GW player to get it seeing as how unbelievable balanced they are as a team. Pinnock and Pops could both argue for it, but I don't see it happening. Steven Smith might be the frontrunner on the 3rd place team leading the league in scoring and top 3 rebounding. The two guys ahead of him in rebounds are Curtis Withers(Charlotte) and Rashaun Freeman(UMass). Withers will get some votes, he is dominating rebounds and top 10 scoring. I think Freeman will be a favorite next year, but he could make a huge case tonight playing head to head with Withers. Outplaying him would turn some heads. Brian Thorton would have been in the running if not for the injury. I just don't see him getting it missing the last 4/5 games. Mardy Collins is also in the mix for Temple. If they win their last 3 A10 games it would help his cause.

If it ended today I would say Collins wins.

Coach is easily Karl Hobbs. Defensive player is probably Collins. I don't know if newcomer is actually an award that gets handed out or just a videogame/internet writer thing, but if it is real, De'Angelo Alexander of Charlotte would win, something like 5th in scoring in the league, a transfer player. Not sure who would win freshman of the year if that is an award.

If it makes you feel better, Xavier wasn't going to get into the NCAA tourny even if Brian Thorton was healthy. That said, they had a much better chance of winning the A-10 tourny with him.

POY is tough. Down year for the A-10. I guess I would say S.Smith at LaSalle over Withers and Collins. Smith doesn't wow me and doesn't seem to dominate but his numbers are hard to argue. McAlister? just kidding I agree that GW doesn't have a POY-type player.
Newcomer/freshman of the year - Alexander followed by Lisch (SLU), I guess. Not surprised Alexander is the winner here. Was pretty good at OK.
6th Man - Mo Rice, hands down
Coach - Hobbs, although Giannini and Soderburg (sp?) got a lot out of their teams.
Worst Coach - Nee.

Well up until the La Salle loss they were still a top 60 or so RPI team with all winnable games left. I don't remember if he played that game or not, but I believe he did. I guess that was the official start of their 'decline', but it wasn't really cemented until the Dayton loss last night. With Thorton I think they beat Dayton and have a very good chance to win out and make noise in the A10 tourny, if they had done that they would have had a really good shot as an at-large.

I think it is Smith or Collins. I think Withers being new to the league will hurt him, and I don't really think he deserves it, not even the leading scorer on the team. I can see Smith winning it with his stats and La Salle currently sitting in 3rd place, but I think Collins is a better all around player, even though comparing a PF to a PG isn't easy. It is pretty much down to those two though, I think.

I think Temple can get by without beating Duke. Duke's RPI is #1, even a loss is going to help boost that SOS a ton. Play them close and you leave a good image in the minds of the comittee, but I don't think a win is needed. They can't lose another A10 game until the A10 championship though, I agree with that.

Charlotte is out, if you throw out RPIs they don't look bad, but I believe it's been posted here in years past that the highest RPI team ever to get an at-large bid was in the 50s? Charlotte won't finish with an RPI above 60 even if they win out. The Richmond and Wake Forest losses cemented it. That being said, I think they will be one of the teams with a chance to beat GW in the tournament. GW stomped Charlotte @ Charlotte and will do the same @ GW on Senior night, but a neutral site with an NCAA berth on the line for Charlotte, I think that would at least be a close game. Temple is a team that can actually match up to GW size-wise and their only meeting this year was Temple's first conference game. I think Cheaney might have it in him to win the A10 tournament this year behind Collins.

The funny thing is how many online articles I read saying "the A10 is a multi-bid league." If RPI is as important as it has ever been, the league will be VERY lucky to sneak in a 2nd team. If you throw out RPIs and see a bunch of quality teams beating up on each other while GW dominates everybody, then you can make a case for 2 or 3 teams, but the selection comitee doesn't do that.
