Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
You're telling me you've never liked the look of someone?
I don't like the way he looks and I hate the way he acts. I used to play baseball with a guy like him. He'd bitch and moan at the strike zone when he got caught looking every time. And he was the most pale kid I've ever seen that played baseball(it's hard to be pale skinned playing baseball in the south).
In terms of disliking someone based on their look, appearance or skin tone, no Ive never judged someone based on that, ever. I tend to give everyone a chance until they prove they arent deserving of that chance but whether theyre pale or not doesnt factor into anything. If you dislike the guy because of the way he plays then more power to you, although I dont get what Singler does on the floor that would cause someone to feel this way, but to dislike him baed solely on him being pale just doesnt make sense to me personally.Comment

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
My first heartbreak as a child was watching Christian Laettner's miracle fallaway swish through the net to defeat my beloved 'Cats. I spent many of my adolescent years hating Duke, Coach K, their players, and the favorable treatment from officials (for all you under-20 crowd out there, check out the 2001 title game against Arizona. One of the most one-sided officiating games of my lifetime). However, I've slowly but surely come to respect the Duke program. I still do not root for them but I have a healthy admiration for them (North Carolina is an entirely different story). I still am somewhat shocked they are in the championship game - figured they'd get beat by a superior athletic team. Even Duke fans have to admit this team isn't as talented as the last two Duke teams (with Paulus and Henderson). It reminds me a lot of '98 UK when everything fell into place and the team just gelled.
With that being said, I expect them to dispatch Butler by at least 10 points tomorrow night. Butler will keep it close early but it comes down to Duke's size advantage inside and their ability to knock down open shots. I swear Duke has a golden horseshoe right now. They're good of course, but it's amazing how the bracket opened up for them. They'll be able to coast in the second half tomorrow night.Comment

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
I wasn't blaming officials. I clearly said that Duke outplayed us in every aspect last night, which was disappointing to watch. We just didn't look like we had the focus or intensity we've had the prior 3 weeks and I don't understand why, and Duke's defense and shooting were unlike any game I've seen them play this season. The only thing I said regarding the officiating, and it doesn't just apply to WVU's game, is that Duke gets away with far more than any other team I've ever seen and they always have. The moving screens, over the backs, and hand check/stomach poking defense that are never whistled drive me nuts. Zoubek should average about 10 minutes per game because he commits about 15 fouls a game that are never whistled. Dude is 7'1" with absolutely no vertical whatsoever, yet he manages to get rebounds over guys that have textbook blockouts? Come on now.Comment

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
I agree, crques, I was really surprised that WVU did not show much intensity or fight last night. Duke is the better team and I figured they would win but WVU barely put up a fight. It was just a very forgettable game for WVU.
As Clark Kellogg kept saying, Duke had so many "warm up 3's", wide open, could take their time, etc. Of course you still have to make those shots and to Duke's credit they did, but it looked like WVU was still going by the friggen Kentucky scouting report - they just weren't challenging 3PTA's. There was one play where I believe it was Wellington Smith on Scheyer and Scheyer had the ball about a step behind the 3PT line and Smith was two steps off him with his hands down. Easy rise-n-fire for Scheyere who hit the three. I mean, how do you play that kind of defense in the friggen Final Four?
But more important than Duke's offense was their defense IMO. They took away Butler complete and really made WVU's lack of a PG apparent. This Duke team has really come together late in the season, I expect a 20 win over Butler tomorrow."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Having watched both teams in person this past weekend (and shedding a reserved tear for my beloved Spartans), I have to say Duke just looks to be hitting on all cylinders right now. They're not the best team, but they are the best team playing right now, and that's all that matters. I was impressed with how easily and consistently they hit their jumpers, and they don't need any time at all to knock down those long 3's. Zoubek rebounds like an animal, and if cheat out on their shooters, their inside guys will just hit layups on you. I hate Duke, but I envision no situation in which they don't win tomorrow night.
Congratulations to Duke fans, police who write speeding tickets, and the house in blackjack.Comment

Re: The Official 2010 "Running Commentary of Every Single Tourney Game" Thread
Tonight is the night, and I should be pretty calm, but yet I have a sense of nervousness. Maybe it's because of 1986, 1990, 94, and 99. Everyone wants to hand us the title now when they constantly were saying we were gonna lose. I'm not falling into that trap and I know our guys aren't either. We still have 40 mins to play, and Butler is gonna be a pain to deal with. I'd be surprised if we did win by 20 or 30 like a lot of people have been saying. I think we should win, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we did lose either. We played great Sat, and Butler played sub-par. Something tells me Butler plays a lot better, and we fall back to our mean play of the season. That being said...

I hope you are right, but I've seen this play out way too many times before people handing the title to us before the game is played, and let's just say I've walked away disappointed every time.President of the Devils Den

Howard will play I don't see him missing this one. To be truthful Butler really hasn't had Howard play a lot the whole tournament. Every game the dude ends up with 4 fouls or fouls out. I think Butler is used to playing without him for long stretches. If you look up foul in the dictionary you see Howard's picture right beside it. He took Z's place in the updated version.President of the Devils Den
