I rarely yell at a video game anymore... But after having the Clippers drain 10 3's against me b/c of my defense consistently sagging off the shooters I was pissed off. There was nothing I could do.

I don't want this thread to die. In my estimation one of two things MUST happen:

1. Defensive settings are patched back into the game
2. A thorough explanation of each POE needs to be given by 2K

If the POE is all that 2K says it is, it seems only logical that it's alledged POWER be explained. I can think of a myriad of different situations that the POE simple wont cover which the old defensive settings could readily handle.

In my opinion, the old defensive settings are/were the way to go. It gave us a much more detail approach to defending.

anyone know how to lower/turn off the help defense in the game?

fed up of guys driving to the basket and 2/3 players leaving their men to go help out leaving open shooters on the wing.

as for my defensive POE its usually on crsh defensive glass. is this causing the issue?

Hey again guys!

I have working more whit the def you talking about and regonise problems.

And i got def problem when i played utha and sign Mike D antonie as coach. And play whit 1 big guy and 2 smallforwards and 1 sg and 1 pg. My def sucks.. In evrey game i let in 105-120 p.

So coach´s def icon is importen and players def reate! Whe ni hade smaller linup and still good sf how can deffend the post. The IA just pass the boll inside and dominate me and out power me whit strenge. When i change settings to nothing inside and play pyschicul. They started pops 3´s.

When i play a Mygm whit a def minded team and a coach. I win games! and just let in 75-105 p.

They key to play good def is that evrey guy can deffend there player. So you guys know in real life, the game is all about missmatchups.

Even when i played whit Utha and hade big problem whit cover inside. So hade they BIG problem cover my players from outside and penetrating.

I think you just need to choise your poision.. THE GAME IS SOO ****ING RELISTIC. I love it!


And yehh i miss some times that you cant chose to switch in all screns and headge and soo on. That wold be good if you culd choise that! Cus if you have a more atheltic and taller team i wold love to switch in all postion. Wold be cool!

Limit perimeter never seems to work for me

Can be your coach is bad in def or players have low def awarnes ..

Not true. The Simulation sliders, On Ball Defense is raised to 65 and Defensive Awareness raised to 70. It doesn't take a Coach to tell you Kyle Korver or Ray Allen should be left wide open- common sense.

I hate that they boosted everyone's on Ball and def awareness. Basically making guys like tony Allen useless. This was the first sign that defense was going to be unrealistic in this game when 75 percent of the defenders are 99 def awareness.

My best guess is there was a problem with def settings not working properly so they removed them. Then they gave us a placebo in place and said that poe's make everything work under the hood when anyone who has played this game knows that the defensive rotations, help, and options on this game don't work right under the hood.

Hopefully, the patch helps but my expectations of this happening is very low. Probably why we haven't gotten patch notes yet.

You make several interesting points. However the POE settings are inferior to the previous defensive settings. There are many options that are simply not there using POE. With the previous settings you could construct your defense to suit your personnel and team style. With Miami you could "hard hedge" on every pick... double the post etc. Until the developers give us a detail explanation as to what each POE REALLY does, we will struggle. And even knowing what they do, there will still be gaps in what we can do.

Solution? Give us the options to choose POE or defensive settings... as many have mentioned in previous post.

Removing defensive settings was major hit in strategy. It destroyed my defensive scheme. I would almost never have Lopez hedge pick and rolls. I played deny on all decent or better three point shooters however I could also switch on the fly to defend the basket orchestrating conditional schemes/giving different looks.

They were working in CG. The boost in defensive awareness does what? Have you tried lowering it? In the past I think it caused players to snatch loose balls with amped coordination and quickness. I dont know if this is the case. I have no idea what defensive and offensive awareness does in 2k14.

I don't know either. I know the on ball boost makes everyone slide their feet unrealistically well, especially the bigs. I have lowered the def awareness and I do see lower rated defenders responding to my button input slower. On default SIM hof every defender is in every passing lane stealing passes, rotating perfectly on all drives and passes and blocking every shot they possibly can without falling for pump fakes.

Not entirely true. Players are listed in Substitution screen as having 99 in the On Ball Defense category, but are not truly 99. LeBron James is rated an 85 for On Ball Defense. The slider increase actually rates him at 150 (85 rating + 65 slider adjustment). It only shows at 99 because attributes are capped at 99.

Look at it this way ... Michael Jordan is rated 99 overall. Edit Jordan's attributes, give him 99 in every category; he stays at 99 overall. Don't let the rating ceiling fool you. Simulation sliders do not make the average Joe into a Tony Allen.

2. Did you really enjoy players adding PLAY TIGHT to every offensive player and pick passing games all game long? I feel like POE need to be adjusted often and they change the way you're playing the game. I personally find it more of a chess match now than ever before in a much more balanced way. If you feel differently, feel free to always leave feedback.

I've seemed to have more competitive games in next-gen than ever before.

Yea Points of Emphasis is definitely better then last-gen where everyone would just put play tight and deny ball. One thing I wish you could still change was the coach sliders though.

Also an in depth write up of the Points of Emphasis would be great.

Do you have any idea when Historic packs will be in myTeam? I still don't understand why they haven't been added yet. Most people that play myTeam play for the legends.
