I always thought I got the **** end of the stick playing PC versions of this game, but as it is now, it seems the next gen version is actually worse than the PC versions I've played in the past, and that is *really* saying something. The only gain is being able to play with friends (which is why I got this on console in the first place).

But, I seem to be missing game modes. You can't customize the controller layout? Seriously? Can't have freedom over rosters or save them locally? Seriously? Even if I could play with friends online, it's not like we could play with a custom roster, as I understand it. And, on, and on, and on...

People need to stop buying this garbage. Completely common sense, basic functionality (you should be able to create multiple profiles, and playbooks and controller configuration should be tied to individual profiles).

So, where is the path to greatness mode on xbox one? I've been in every menu, and I cannot find it.

2k keeps putting out garbage, and people keep buying it, it seems. I don't know if bball gamers just have terribly low standards, or have never played a game with proper, basic functionality or what, but this is terrible. Maybe if folks started skipping the game one year, 2k would actually get up and do something.

Judging from the trash they are releasing (and apparently selling very well) it seems people who play this game are more concerned with what clothes their players wear when they get off the bus, than a game that lets you have freedom over your rosters, working online, freedom when playing with friends, freedom to play the game your way, freedom to customize your controller layout. freedom to do just about anything that common sense should dictate, and standard functionality that has been in games for decades.
There is no path to greatness mode in next gen

      Re: Did We Get Bamboozled?

traded in the 360 version for the xbox one version this afternoon.

usually spend most of my time playing association mode.

my gm is a massive let down.

terrible menu design, inability to set player roles before the season starts so any changes you make has an instant negative effect of player morale, unrealistic owner expectations and shocking interactions with staff and players.

the total lack of coaching options such as player development drills, no way to manage the lineups of your bench players and situationals outside of the start of a match and coach slider options seem to have been halved?

the need to spend vc to unlock EVERYTHING is also disgusting. the game cost £54 ffs i expect to be able to do things in game with out having to spend MORE money.

the guys at 2k must go to work wearing a mask and stripy jumps suits, feel totally robbed

This is the best nba sim we have available, but there's a ton of work to be done, especially on the gameplay side of things. Until they significantly change the way the way the rate their rosters, or eliminate the CPU rebounding and crash the paint at all costs cheese, I'm just done.

These new systems were not worth the upgrade right away, I'll be selling this game and seeing what they bring to the table next year. There's a good chance they've lost a 13 year loyal customer, though.

I've done the same myself... Sad because this was supposed to be my go to game on the X1. Now I'm left without that 1 game for awhile.

Honestly I can deal with the BS VC if the game was good and complete. But the scripted MyPlayer feeling like my story has been taken away from me... The horrible trade logic, player roles, and lack of abilities to fix these issues I am just done....

Over promised, under delivered. Hope NBA2K15 focuses on fixing their core issues and not spend time creating some new mode or feature to wow us before fixing all existing issues. I Really need EA to get their stuff together to give me options again.

                Re: Did We Get Bamboozled?

I have always been skeptical of launch sports titles, but the enthusiasm for this game and the overwhelmingly positive reviews had me excited to pick this game up for Christmas.

Reading through this thread, along with some others (like the always online), has been depressing, but I am thankful it looks like I may save some money and frustration.

If anyone from 2k is reading this - I am a real example of someone who's money you lost. I guess there seems to be some debate if you an or can play without being connected to the internet....But as someone that plays almost entirely Franchise modes in sports games, I want nothing to do with potentially losing a game due to any server connection. There is no point...and as I'm sure many here can attest, losing and having to replay a game sucks for a simulation player. And the VC attached to the mode? Just ridiculous. I could live with losing some features and next-gen hiccups, but these are conscious decisions on the developers part, and decisions that affect my desire to play the game.
It's just a bummer that I won't have an NBA game to play now, barring some last minute save on their part, or more research showing those issues I mentioned above aren't as bad as I seem to think.

All 2K should have done was port the old game to the new system and fixed all the problems that needed fixing. If they adjusted CPU logic during association and just ported it straight over to the 4/One almost everyone would love the game.

The last game they ported was nowhere near as ROBUST... as 2K11, 2K12, 2K13, or 2K14. So bear that in mind.

Therefore, all these new modes are welcomed ADDITIONS to the vastly successful 'CORE FOUNDATION' that was established in 2K11 and afterwards. (Not complete REPLACEMENTS for the core foundation.)

Too many popular features are missing.

                        That's the problem.

                        Ask around.

They would literary make more money have more sales and have happier customers if they did that. The short term gained of forced vc is a fraction of the lost preorders for 2k15.

2K6 did become the foundation for every game during the 360/PS3 era - but you're forgetting initially 2K was roundly initially criticized by the hardcore for taking that approach. 2K6 on the 360 was called out as being nothing more than a slightly prettier didn't receive a lot of praise. Most wanted what felt "new", given what EA was doing with their sports games. It wasn't until 2K7 and 2K introducing signature style that they began to receive wide acclaim. I'm not a fan of IGN reviews, but I decided to go back and see what they said about the game. Here's an exerpt from their review:

Thankfully, NBA 2K6 didn't remove any of the features that made it a well-rounded and deep basketball title on current-gen consoles. Speaking of well rounded, NBA 2K6 reminds me of Tim Duncan. Like the Big Fundamental, 2K6 is not flashy and you are rarely going to jump out of your seat in sheer excitement when you play. But, like Duncan, 2K6 is a big name in the business, has earned tremendous respect from intelligent basketball fans, and it does just about everything well. However, the only real changes from 2K6 on the PS2 and Xbox to the Xbox 360 seem to be updated rosters and improved player models.

This might be a good thing. While kudos must be given to the 360 version of NBA Live 06 for taking a risk on revolutionizing the basketball genre, there are just too many poorly implemented features to make up for the good ones. 2K6 took the safe approach and created what is basically an exact port of a very good basketball game with some tweaks to old gameplay issues and sliders. And when we say "exact port," we mean it.
Hardcore fans were far more critical of the approach then; it wasn't until 2K introduced signature style in 2K7 that the hardcore got really excited. My point is you can say they should've taken the port approach again, and I'm saying this not knowing much about game development - but imo you're saying they should've ported a game which at it's core was already a direct port back in 2005/2006.

The view that the game would've continued to grow this generation in the same manner it did during the PS3/360 era off that old base is a huge assumption. No matter how good things are, there's always a loud contingent here that will prefer New and Different over stable and sound.

If I recall correctly before this game released many of the Association guys wanted their own "new" stuff in addition to the old problems being fixed, given what 2K was doing with the MY-whatever stuff - Association mode was being called out as having become stale. Last week I commented in a thread where people where criticizing the commentary in 2K14. Which is widely considered the best commentary in a sports game period, no other sports game comes close (this was the Clark Kellogg thread) - yet some here want change because they'd gotten tired of hearing the same team providing commentary for the game. Essentially they wanted change for change's sake. Despite NBA2K easily having the best commentary in a sports game.

Either way, my point being is you can criticize 2K for their execution if you feel NBA2K14 is a disappointment; imo I don't think you can criticize their approach. Because imo it wouldn't have taken but a couple years for many people here to start complaining they want something new. The whole "in hindsight all we wanted was [what we had before]" view is totally different to what the same fans were saying at the beginning of the last generation.

I agree, you can't criticize 2K's approach. They're always pushing forward.

However you can criticize the direction they're taking and also they need to set realistic goals for their product in a one year development cycle.

They also will have to quit with false advertisement (Hello Stats INC). They're losing the consumer's trust with that crap.
