Did we get bamboozled? In short? No.

When you put NBA 2K14 in and start up what you see on screen is NBA Today, MyCareer, MyGM, MyTeam and Features. That's a fully featured game. Granted, CAP is missing and it's disappointing/frustrating, but that doesn't make you bamboozled. If there was nothing in this game but the ability to play quick games after they said it was a fully featured game, THEN you'd have been bamboozled. There's a friggin shoe creator in this game. The modes have issues with bugs no doubt, but modes not working the way you want them too doesn't qualify as getting bamboozled by a non fully featured game.

      Re: Did We Get Bamboozled?

At the end of the day LD2k and Ronnie don't really have a say in how the game is going to turn out, but that doesn't mean they're immune to criticism. Being the community manager/PR guy means you're going to get a lot of flak if things are not going as planned, even if you did a good job spinning a turd to hype up the release. That's part of the job.

We can only hope 2K decides to start to fix the list of legacy issues that seems to get bigger and bigger every year. And the way microtransactions are handled in this game it seems 2K is trying it's best to ruin the product.

        Re: Did We Get Bamboozled?

I just wish people understood how much myself and others actually love this game and the NBA 2K franchise. I've never complained about an NBA 2K game after release until now. If they would have just been strait up and honest with us from the beginning about certain things like missing features, or not touting certain modes to behave a certain way, when in reality it's the exact opposite, I wouldn't care so much.

Do you really think this conversation engines adds much, if anything? Just hear me out for a second. Half of these "conversations" I'm having are repeated media, press conference questions that have very little bearing on what's happening in my season.

Then, when I do finally get to talk to any of my players, it's about them not making the all-star team, or them suggesting that I don't go sign someone else when another player get's injured. Literally the only interaction I have with players outside of contract negotiations.

Talking to the coaches is as annoying as can be. The assistant is always trying to get the head coach fired, or the head coach is always suggesting I buy a training facility, or suggesting me to change my strategies up in the total sim section, isn't that the coaches job to do anyway?

I haven't seen ANYTHING that differs from current gen association mode, aside from setting ticket prices, having a budget, and an owner that presents you with the exact same "goals" year after year.

We can't play any game on the schedule, we can only control one team, there's an entire multitude of things missing. To me, that's considered watered down. It's a decent first step, but they have a long way to go to prove what they were touting as a groundbreaking mode that would make us forget about everything else.

Then, no CAP? No saving rosters to your HDD? No online association? no playoff mode? SO much missing, it's definitely watered down. I guess you and I just have differing opinions on what is considered a fully featured game.

The rest of your points, I definitely agree with. It just took some of us a long time to learn a lesson about not falling for marketing hype.
Oh dont get me wrong. I dont really like any of the My GM additions and I've been very vocal about this. I hated the addition so much that I gameflyed 2k and havent bought it. When I do play 2k on next gen its fro My Player and I have learned to ignore the issues with that mode. IMO, they wouldve been better off just porting in Association mode and improving that.

You just cant say that this is a watered down version of current gen. Again, 2k never said "full featured". They said "full fledged". Those terms are different.

Yeah when many of us were discussing MyGM a few weeks before release, I distinctly remember Gosen posting that he was excited for MyGM and confident the old issues were fixed. It's not like he is searching for anything to criticise 2k on and was never praising them. It is legitimate disappoint as we were let down by a misleading and overhyped product.

              "Whatchu talkin' bout, Willis?!?" lol

Feeling 'bamboozled' is not about the semantics of terms like 'full-features', or 'full-fledged', or shoe-creators, in my opinion. And it's not about 'the modes not working in the exact way we want it to', either.

Give the gamers more credit than that. That's not the issue.
(Especially gamers who have stuck with this series FOR YEARS. Through thick & thin)

It's about the entire package. Everything. From top to bottom.

Feeling 'bamboozled' is about individual perception & emotion.
              (And everyone's 'perception' is different)

Remember, "Perception is reality." As the saying goes.

If so many NBA 2K gamers put the disc in their next-gen system... and feel as though "they had the rug pulled out from under their feet"... then there is a REAL problem.

Trying to justify semantics in an attempt to sway perception will not stop gamers from feeling ANY LESS 'Bamboozled' every time they fire up their PS4/XBone over the next year. (until 2k15 comes out)

              Say what you want.

But if 2K had just done a straight port of the CG version to NG platforms (With a few bug fixes).... I doubt anyone would feel so 'bamboozled'. (Maybe they would feel something else. But I'd bet they would not feel straight-up-and-down 'bamboozled' imo.)

              Seriously.

              Look what has happened:
              • 2K rebuilt the ENTIRE game 'from the ground up'
              • released a 'full-featured' game (according to you)
              • but left a very large portion of gamers feeling BAMBOOZLED.

              That should tell you something.

That's not all these gamers fault.
              Not at all.

("It is much better to UNDER-PROMISE and over-deliver....than it is to OVER-PROMISE, then under-deliver." Ever heard of that saying?)

                  1. There is a shoe creator in the Barbie games my daughter plays online too. I did not buy the game to play with shoes.

                  2. They (2K14) advertized a fully featured game leading up to launch, and were very vague to the fans questions over various omitted features prior to launch. They were saying that the missing modes had been modified and/or improved, and very functional.

                  3. With most features needing an internet connection in the game, the game is unplayable at times, because a lot of the time (peak play times time at that) the servers have been down since next gen launch.

Microsoft previously recanted their requirement to be always online with the Xbox One, but apparently launch title game makers didn't get the memo, or couldn't change the required coding in time to meet their launch deadline.

I, like many others here, bought it (NBA 2K14 on XBOX ONE)to play next gen basketball online, with friends, in leagues, with custom rosters, building on an already successful feature set, not subtracting major features (offline and online association and association customization, roster customization, creating teams, D-League, VIP sharing, Crew, etc.)that fans like, and that are draws to the franchise.

Fanboys will always be fanboys, and choose to remain blind to their favorite product's severe shortcomings at the first next gen launch.

My point is, people here on the 2k14 forums are wary of the track record for previous necessary patches and fixes for a 2K basketball release, and they haven't come fast, if ever, and that gives the average video game basketball fan a sense of being "Bamboozled", because they paid for and are stuck with something they expected much more from, which seems to be the growing sentiment in this thread.

If this dissatisfaction with a product, occurred in any other purchase transaction with similar $60 pricing, (restaurant dinner, new phone, new outfit, plane flight, hotel/motel stay, etc.) and with a similar dissatisfaction level, most if not all would return the product where possible, and would ask for restitution or their money back very fast.

                  ...But still we will buy...

Totally agree. Traded my X1 copy today at BB. $40 for the trade-in and the 360 version is on sale for $40. I will NOT be buying anymore 2K games unless they add back all of the missing modes and remove the restrictive VC crap. Did 2K not learn from the MS disaster at E3? I am a lost customer that will need to be earned back, and I willnot be alone.

Well there's one silver lining to VC:

Being one of the two main off-line modes that are also VC sinks, MyGM is actually getting SOME attention on its core legacy issues, even though it's after release.

2K can't exactly afford to leave MyGM and its Association core *completely* neglected as they see it as a direct revenue stream so it has to be mostly playable. The moment people stop playing because of legacy issues is the moment that stream dries up.

They failed to mention a few things to us before we all bought the game.

                                1. No CAP, at all..

                                2. No saving of rosters to your HDD

                                3. Once you create a save while being connected to the 2K servers, you HAVE to be connected at all times to use these saves.

                                4. VC being EVERYWHERE, not just in MyCareer or MyTeam. (Along with prices still being ridiculously high, in some cases even higher than CG)

                                5. We were promised a groundbreaking experience with MyGM. So far all we got is crazy high VC prices to do anything, the same flaws from CG, and some new gamebreaking bugs riddled through the mode, it's basically unplayable.

                                6. MyCareer is scripted beyond belief, for the first time in this mode it doesn't even feel like we're controlling our own character, we're just playing out a story. When the game wants your team to lose, or you to have a bad game, you're basically forced to play poorly to further the story. Not what we wanted, not how it should be.

                                7. Defensive settings removed for POE. We're still not 100% on how these actually work.

These are just a few of the multitude of issues, missing things, game breaking bugs in certain modes, etc. So, my question to you all is, do you feel like 2K played us all when they made the promises they did? Graphics are great, gameplay is good, but I feel like they lied to us when they promised a fully featured next gen title.

Just a few more from a fellow poster:

Only 1 roster save at a time as far as I can tell. I tried to save a second roster and it saved over my first one.
                                -no playoffs mode
                                -no multiplayer association
                                -terrible menu
-editing rosters- player roles edits dont "stick"- revert back to original
-editing sliders- several edits dont "stick"-have to be reset every time you play a quick game
-have to download your roster every time to play a quick game
-no custom roster under NBA Today
-no official roster updates yet- missing players-this is the one thing that will eventually get corrected?
-no options to turn off bad cpu ai for trades/player roles/fa signings
-rotations get reset by cpu in season mode for cpu teams-terrible rotation logic-still broken
Don't forget there are no NEW classic teams either
