Yeah, love this thread. This is the one area that has plagued the 2K series IMO since it's inception. Live was much more entertaining in this regard last season, EA has done a commendable job with their environments.

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
I know EA did this a few years back on their NCAA Basketball game; but have 2 separate telecasts with 2 sets of announcers. I know EA has the ESPN license so 2k could do like a generic 2k telecast and then TNT. That would be awesome."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up"Comment

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
Yeah watching the vids again, the key thing I'm noticing is how the rim "flicks" when it's pulled down on dunks. The sound is the same, it's a flicking sound that's very quick.
I personally have NO IDEA how the sound in 2K currently made it in. It in no way represents the sound of an NBA rim being dunked. The only thing I can think of is the sound it's making in their studio is different because of the acoustics in the building.....dunno.
I would like to see it flick up after dunks aswell. Currently it's pulled down and then returns to it's default position with subtlety and there's no noticeable "flick". Backboard shakes far too violently aswell.
I feel like I'm repeating myself so I guess this is the last I'll say on the matter, but I REALLY HOPE 2K actually see this thread and will take it into account in the future......I can't really tell but from the new "Winning" trailer, I think the sounds haven't changed......
I think this sort of thing would be an easy fix and I'm surprised it's come this far without being addressed considering the level of detail that goes into other aspects of the game....anyhow, I hate to come across as a complainer when the game is so good so I'll leave it at that.....Comment

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
It could simply be me ....
But watching the #winning trailer again, and purposely trying to listen to specific sounds of the game including dunk sounds and crowd noise, am I wrong to believe those could in fact be the official NBA2k16 sound? Are they pretty much the same as before, or different? Then there's crowd noise somewhere in the video.
@0:55 - 1:08 mark (NBA2k16 dunk sound?)
@1:10 - 1:15 mark (NBA2k16 dunk sound?)
@1:21 - 1:27 mark (NBA2k16 dunk sound? Almost silent with Anthony Davis dunking the ball).
@1:31 - 1:33 mark (NBA2k16 dunk sound? Cousins' dunk, not as much "trash can" sound)

Yep - I had a good listen and it's hard to tell in this trailer. In Czar's blog recently you hear a dunk and some misses during his small bits of gameplay. They all sound the same as years past.
Just a question of which build is more recent (the OFF chance Czar's vids are older haha).
I am also hanging onto the OFF chance that 2K are preventing revealing any NEW sounds because they want to do it all in their presentation blog. This is highly unlikely - but all I have at this point haha......Comment

That's how dunks will sound in 2K16. It's the same as 2K15 I believe.
I guess the ones in the trailer sounds a little better.

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
I'm going to post this Vine clip to illustrate what I feel is lacking in the 2K crowd ... this is hard for me to articulate but if you listen to this clip, 2K's sound gets the first part of the crowd's reaction down... the big "OOOOOO" reaction.
What 2K misses is the trailing aftermath that we hear in this Vine clip after the big "OOOOO" from the crowd.

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
I'm also hoping for some better sounds in the game and appropriate crowd reaction, like said earlier would take this game so much further toward realism.
I'm going off memory here but back with College Hoops 2k 8, they had a system where the crowd would give you a boost when you started playing better. The crowd wouldn't be as loud when you were behind but on your runs they would get louder and be more active. Obviously it would need to be upgraded as far as sound quality but during a game the crowd would be up and down according to the home teams runs which is how it should be.
It would take time but would it be a lot of trouble for them to go to a few arenas to record crowd sounds and go from there? Also agree dunk sounds need to be better and some yelling from more players would go along way.Last edited by Sinner; 09-07-2015, 07:28 AM.-= Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.=- Edward MurphyComment

Fantastic point man!! Dude they had so many good things in that game. Jersey was a good fit, lighting in the stadiums were right, and they had a mind for great atmosphere... TOTALLY got AWAY from that
It was called The Sixth Man
"This year, the development team has added more remarkable new features in College Hoops 2K8 than ever before," said Greg Thomas, President of Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio. "Having a compelling and entertaining atmosphere is essential for a college basketball title and the 6th Man Advantage adds a new gameplay element that allows gamers to tap into the crowd's energy to benefit their team.The sixth-man feature in 2K8 is represented as a meter that's shown at the bottom of the screen during a game. By default, the meter is green and will be filled depending on which team you're using (a big program like Duke, for example, will start with about half of its meter filled when playing at Cameron Indoor Arena). Performing successful plays such as scoring baskets or stopping the opposing team will fill the meter up, whereas playing as if your players' shoes are filled with lead and their fingers are coated with motor oil will decrease the meter. If you fire up the crowd enough, the sixth-man meter will fill up completely and turn red, at which point your team will be feeding off the intensity of the crowd and earn temporary confidence as well as energy boosts in the process.

Probably not the cleanest run but look how Bshadows amps up his 6th man meter and how the crowd just builds and builds

Re: Improving Audio and Atmosphere
The overall atmosphere is embarrassing to 2k15. Especially with every team having their own chants specifically and you could even create a school and choose one yourself.
Thing about the crowd though is, its just one blanket cheer they just turned up the volume on and its been like that from the beginning.Comment
