The amount of pushback I got when discussing those additions was incredible. "I don't care about how the ball sounds I care about 5on5 raw gameplay!" Can't win.

Honestly, those things really aren't noticeable under default or TV Broadcast audio settings. What is noticeable is the crowd and arena audio. Those have been not great in 2k for a long time.

Even the commentary is getting stale with Kevin Harlan having been in the game for close to a decade now.

I find Live's commentary to be closer to what I want in terms of what they talk about. 2k easily has more content in their commentary, but most of it is not focused on the game in front of them. There's too much off the court talk, and when they do reference statistics, they are not relevant in terms of what is happening in the court (talking about the best rebounding teams last year when someone gets fouled). It's just not organic to me.

They also don't seem to react to and discuss extraordinary things on the court (someone knocking down 4-5 threes in a row, or knocking down a huge shot to stop a run or take the lead after being down by a lot).

Having multiple teams is great, but I would like them to focus the commentary on the game in front of them rather than stories and irrelevant stats.

In 2K17 they did NOT have authentic arena sounds while Live 18 and also Live 16 had their respective/authentic arena sounds. That's what bothers me because it ruins the immersion. Cavs vs Warriors been 3 straight finals and its hard to miss each stadium sound.

I definitely get where you're coming from... but Live to me, has always sounded like WWE games.

Long pauses, then "OH! He did the thing!..... And one thing about Kyrie Irving.....WHAT A DUNK BY HOWARD!....... You know the thing about the Hornets this year..."

Kills me every time. I'd rather have a constant flow of communication even if it isn't directly about what's happening on the court because we hear all sorts of things not game related when you watch it on tv. Just seems more natural, to me that is.

Yep. Live's crowd and atmosphere is legit. The commentary is just bad, though. In addition to it being choppy and spliced together it's generic. I still have the Live 16 demo and it's the exact same commentary on 18. The exact same. That's stale! 2K added 4 or 5 rotating commentators who fit in and flow with the other two and you know their content is only gonna get deeper over the years. But to each his own...

Live doesn't have the sheer volume of content in their commentary, but they focus more on what's happening on the court, which is more realistic.

2k does have the edge in how the commentary flows without interruption, but more often than not they're not discussing anything relevant to the game. Then when something noteworthy does happen on the court, they don't mention it at all.

I'll try to record some examples of what I'm talking about when I get home next week.

the older 2k games were better for commentary. They had more tidbits of the personalities of the game and around 2k14, they stopped that. Other than that, it's still the game commentary, good commentary ,but definitely the same.

Yeah audio and atmosphere..... it's time...... come on 2K. It's time.

2K18 seems like it's going to be quite polished, beautiful to look at. New movement system - so it will move nicely (by the sounds of it)...... this thread is too massive to have been ignored - again.

                  Let's complete the portfolio - sound/atmosphere.

                  It's time.

I'm not a fan of 3 guys in a studio yakking in a video game regardless of how good or who they are. They should take a poll and ask 2k gamers if they usually skip it. It needs to be exciting. Show some NBA Finals highlights with last winning shots of the last few decades then go to to tip off! How about that idea?

Yeah I gotta admit.....I button through it.

I'd prefer in pregame if they stuck with some multiple commentator audio while they camera on the big name players in layup line or something.....

what they need in commentator is Jackson, Van Gundy and Breen discussion, reaction and enthusiasm to have the game a more lively atmosphere coz to be honest adding 30 more announcer will not make any difference if they all talk the same boring no emotion way.

and for the crowd they really need to make a different reaction from quarter to quarter in regular season.allstar playoffs and finals.

Yeah the other games commentary is cringeworthy at best I'll definitely give 2k the overall on that while in-game atmosphere sounds they are lacking big time.

It's baffling to me how someone could say 2Ks is stale, while that games is not only stale (same as Live 16) but poorly implemented as well.
Lives does atmosphere really good, though. 2K should definitely take from it. I like the pre game show with Shaq and the crew but I'd only like to see it for big games. 2K14 this gen presentation with Damin Bruce should be the stock option with the TNT like elements (player sit down interviews, Shaq and crew) reserved for big games.
