This is how I start off against the Cavs and here's my reasoning.

First, each one can give you 20 points a night. With Irving, I decide to play him tight because I rather him beating me with 2s instead of 3s. I play the moderate on him because he will cut back door or can catch and shoot. Staying neutral is my strategy versus him.

With JR I'm more afraid of his shooting than driving. He gets the same treatment as Kyrie for the same reasons.

Lebron I play off a bit more as I want him to take jumpers but still want to be close enough to get a hand up.

Love likes to stand around the 3 point line and gas. With him being a big, I'm not afraid of him going back door and his kick out 3s hurt more than a 2 point bucket so I stick to him. If for some reason he calls for a screen and roll I'm switching that. Never seen it happen but if it comes it will come from one of the front court positions.

Mozgov gets all the garbage buckets so I don't consider him a threat in the offense. With him I'm worried about offensive rebounds or a lob. Isn't Akeem on the block so I'm not afraid to send single at him. Willing to live with him beating me.

When you play the Cavs you have to really be flexible as like I said earlier, any one of these dudes can go off. You may have to change most of this up immediately but the flow of the game should let you know what tweaks to be made. All of the adjustments I made are pregame. Making pregame adjustments helps save time during timeouts.

Going to play a game with Indy versus the Cavs right now with these settings. Good luck with defeating CLE tho, they're tough.

    Great post!!! Couple questions...

    1. Why do you ICE a majority of the guards?
    2. With the big men you have them both set to SWITCH and HARD HEDGE.. What is the reasoning for this?
    3. Do you set your POEs to Nuetral defense and Neutral Aggresion and let the individual assignments dictate your D?
    4. I always play big men tight because i worry the AI will just let them get easy rebounds. Do you typicalls sag off the bigs on off ball defense? How about on ball defense?

Thanks in advance for any tips! This is a great thread.

        1. I ICE the guards because I want them shooting jumpers. If they decide to attack the ice, I move to hedging and go to controlling the weak side help on the PNR

        2. No real reason to change it but day they are running 91 fist. That's a part where a big sets a pick for a big to set a pick. During that sequence, it's easier to just switch there instead of expecting your big to get around the first pick and being in position to defend the 14 or 15 pnr. Also helps when they cross or reverse posts. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

        3. I leave them at default and change them depending on game flow.

        4. If they can shoot or have a decent post game, I play tight. If they aren't a threat I sag off on ball. Off ball I sag off every big man that can't catch and shoot. I don't have rebounding issues doing this often.

Try moving across the lane holding sprint and flicking the shot stick away. Haven't done it in awhile.

So in a post-up situation I can press turbo to the basket and keep holding turbo and flick away from the basket, using absolute right stick setting? Will try it. Thanks

Regarding deflections/loose balls, primarily deflections, is there a way to manually grab/pick up the ball? My guys react slowly compared to the CPU.

...and to revisit an earlier question I had, does anyone have an answer, suggestions, ideas on how to defend the fade-away shot? I know IRL, it's extremely difficult to defend, however, also IRL it's extremely difficult to execute and drop on a high rate on the offensive side.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but do POEs affect stats in your simmed games?

In my Bucks MyLeague last simmed game, I noticed that most of the points were made by MCW (PG), Henson (C) and Parker (PF) and the default Offensive POE is Pick&Roll.

What would you do against a 2-3 zone online?

I usually set POE to 2-3 zone offense and space the floor
And I will run some horn sets here and there, most of the time I will kill my opponent with wide open 3's
But when your 3's not falling(mainly due to lag for me), what more can I do?

On XBone you can press 'X' during a loose ball to get your player to try to compete for it, but it's a very low reward high risk game mechanic. That's because of lag on input, even offline, and because of animations.

If your player, who you think is free to go for the ball, is actually in an animation, the button press won't interrupt it, but the game will queue the command. So if one of your players does get the ball, that command is not a shot, even if it's a full court heave.

This is a royal pain in the you know what.

I still sometimes use it out of reflex, but the better way to manage loose ball parity is with sliders, especially for hustle.

I have a pesky habit of "drifting" on my transition threes...how do you just get a plain old spot up when on the break, without allowing the defense to recover

I usually just shoot it if I get it to a shooter on the break, just don't move and put up the shot. Generally when you pass it you are close enough to the line for it to be a three without being too far out.

So just shoot it if you are close enough, after a few makes/open shots you can pump fake and then drive to the rack!

You pretty much have to wait about 1/2 second for your guy to set up before you shoot or else he'll shoot a leaner.
The only exception is when you throw a perfect pass and get the animation where he squares his feet as he's catching the ball. You can go straight up when that happens. That's just what I've noticed in my time playing game.

Does mastering the pro/shot stick give you more of an advantage and flexibility in the types of shots you attempt?

I shoot all my set shots with square; however in the post I use shot stick. I believe using the shot stick in the post gives you a huge advantage. Shot stick is the best way to initiate a fade away or do an up and under. In the post SHOT STICK ALL DAY, it will give you the control you need over all the avaliable shot options via the post ^_^

                                1. I have heard reference being made to releasing and then pressing again the defensive slide button (L2 / LT) to keep in front of your man. Can you explain your technique for defending the ballhandler, and when you might use this technique? My instinct is to just use defensive slide held down, and then use the pace/turbo button (R2 / RT) if I get beat and need to recover, but usually it ends up for a basket for the CPU one way or another.

                                2. When defending the man, what is your number on objective in terms of where he goes and what he does? Say for example a great all-around scorer like Kevin Durant. Is there any merit in inviting him to drive to the basket, and using help defence to make him shoot a contested shot? Or should I be trying to stay in front of my man at all costs? Again my instinct is to try and stay in front.

                                Thanks in advance
