Would you contest layups with the right stick, or jumping for the block? Or do you judge it completely on a case-by-case basis? I have generally been using block, but I tend to get called for a lot of fouls (could be bad timing, or chasing lost causes).

This is really good. I'll be switching my timeouts from auto to manual after reading this :-) I am hoping that just by doing that, I will think more in timeouts and try to apply some of the principles suggested.

One thing I would wish for clarification is the issue of momentum, and whether a timeout in itself helps to control momentum (irrespective of what you actually do in the timeout, or what you execute after it).
I agree with the emphasis of what is being said by coach 2k, but purely from a technical point of view my understanding was that (sadly) a timeout will always cool hot streaks / momentum (unless the players have certain player badges).

OFF topic but...This kind of thread is what makes me love OS so much. I love the fact that we can come here and bounce ideas off each other and ask questions.

I don't know how this wasn't my first question. How in the hell do I tip dunk? I feel like I've tried everything, I've played against people who do the all the time, but I can't do one myself.

Sprint and right stick up or the shoot button. Has to be a free run to the basket. If you see the CPU going into the animation, just hit square.

And I will say that getting a tip dunk is one of the more rewarding things in 2K

I have some questions, hopefully it's related to the thread, however, it maybe roster thread related...idk(lol)

For the quick plays on the d-pad, (i.e quick iso, quick post, cut to basket, and get open.) is there a way we can manually assign them to specific players, in particular QUICK POST from d-pad?

The reason I ask, if you don't have it on freelance options, 9 times of of 10, the offense will not recognize a mismatch in the post(mouse in the house), and that particular person(i.e JJ Hickson, doesnt have quick post avail, rather it's assigned to Arthur instead)

I've tried going to the playbook, and assigning JJ Hickson top priority for both low and high post plays, and assign no plays whatsoever to Arthur, yet he still gets quick post assigned to him.

Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions? Thanks in advance OS.

...this is based on a Denver Nuggets lineup of Hickson(C), Arthur(PF), Gallonari(SF), Harris(SG) and Nelson(PG)

You can't make those assignments on the d-pad, but you can use voice commands to call "Post up for Hickson" and the game will run a post play for him from your playbook. This works like a quick play.

You can do this with a number of verbal commands. You can use the player's name of you can name the position, i. e., "Post of for Power Forward." You can call isolation or three point, but not mid range. You can also just say "quick post up" but that will probably give you the default player, as the d-pad does.

                    Hope that helps.

Thank you, LorenzoDC. Unfortunately, I don't have the the Kinect to utilize voice command features.

                        Oh well.

On the plus side you don't get called for technicals for swearing at the game. The Kinect also picks up random sounds or just user muttering as time outs sometimes, too, making you burn them when you don't want to.

This has me tempted to go out and purchase a Kinect, just to experience getting technical fouls in 2K. Also, didn't realize I was doing myself such a disservice by electing not to get one for all of the voice commands at our disposal(looking at the instructional manual). Oh well.

I guess I've been practicing a lot more with jumping and regular movement to d-up opponents this year - I've become very good at jumping straight up or even at an angle that avoids contact.

I will say another thing - this year, you really need to give yourself a little more space between yourself and your assignment. The animations will suck you into contact a lot more regularly if you play like in years past.
