Ya'll must have some GIANT egos... I play mainly on-ball too except in PNRs which i'm the PNR defender, but my goodness, its like you all think your gonna get ***** sharpied across your head and set walking through the city naked if you don't play on-ball... If someone doesn't play the same style of you, do you condemn them? It's like saying you HAVE to user a d-lineman in Madden to get your own pressure or else your just not good. Which is absurd

You can't even really compare Madden and 2K.

Two different sports and completely different games. I personally user as much as I could on Madden as well. And most people I play on madden actually do as well compared to 2K.

But I don't knock someone from playing on a certain position at all. But it's just a different game in two ways lol.

Yeah I do agree, but just saying there are people who will get on you in Madden for doing (or not) things like that. I user my MLBs and Safeties in Madden too every play, but that also can be very hard, and not for everyone, just like on-ball D is in 2K..

I remember when i started playing this game years back, I would get TORCHED by whoever I was guarding, regardless of game mode.. Not all players we come accross may be used too, or comfortable playing on ball. If they don't have fun then why should they play it..

Re: At the cost of sounding horrible, Why is offball Defense Rewarded?

Saying that in Madden is silly to me. 11 positions and they are all almost equally important. Why football is the ultimate team game.

Now I hear people get on users for not user catching or user controlling the DB while the ball is in the air. But it's silly. Football is just a totally different sport and videogame.

And I agree. Most players either feel lazy or just not good at it. Me personally, I feel you people should keep trying and get better at it. But 2K15 wouldn't really be a good place to start because the input lag is the worst online I've ever seen. For you to simply to not be able to guard someone that's moving left to right speaks volumes. But I honestly do look at guys that just play offball very different. It's just something I thought came natural. When I play my girl that has no idea what she's really doing, she just automatically switches on the person that has the ball to guard lol. How I was as a kid, I want to guard you.

Actually, It should be the opposite.. haha. Alot of franchise-heads (non-casual ones really), both offline and online, have a house rule of not switching to the DBs while in the air. Switching in the air for the user picks have such a high completion rate, lots of franchise players say you let the CPU and his ratings play it out. Especially with the right sliders, DB's will actually start to look like they have DB hands. Most have not been recievers for a reason! Haha. Off-topic, I know. Sorry

Edit: Read your post again, can't tell if you meant get on them for not user controlling in the air or you were saying it how I meant it. Either way!

Yep. Some do believe that. But no league on 2K that I've ever seen (sim or hardcore players) would ever say "no onball, let the ratings play out". Again, that buffers my point and why I said, two different games in two ways lol.

Basketball is a team sport. There are 5 people on the court per team. I'm not gonna guard you on ball while your standing there setting up a play for your SF who is actually moving around trying to get open. I'm gonna defend your SF and prevent him from getting open. That's simulation basketball. The CPU controls 80% of the players between both teams. Your always playing the AI so that excuse you wanna play a human and not the AI is garbage. If you wanna be effective you have to learn when to guard on ball and off ball. If your gonna stay on ball the entire time for some silly sense of pride while one of your other defenders is getting absolutely smoked and can barely keep up with his matchup then more power to you. I guard on ball but I'm not gonna stand there and guard on ball if your not posing a threat with the ball handler.

Edit: just wanna add I do agree the whole constantly switching players to avoid playing on ball is cowardly, but what do you expect online. And sometimes the lag puts a delay in the controls where on ball D is actually impossible.

It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

What I think on the issue is still an opinion. Personally, I don't care if my opponent plays onball or offball defense.

The help defense, rotations and close outs are so bad its laughable to suggest on-ball defense should be the exclusive way to play the game.

Look at me different all you want, i like playing effective defense.

My opponent can play however he wants, but going against someone who never D's me up 1-on-1 is very boring. Might as well play the computer.

It is really funny, how most of the "just on-ball defense is stupid"-guys bring the same arguments over and over...

NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT NOT MAKING SMART PLAYS OFF THE BALL!!!!!!!! It is about letting the CPU defend 1on1 all the time. Of course you should control the help defender early or go play in passing lanes. It is about controling the player which is the furthest away from the playing action, which sucks!

It sounds like you guys created a thread to just complain about your opponents. Find people that play the way you do and maybe create an online league. Also, I don't see how 2K is "rewarding" off ball defense.

So it seems like more people are starting to see the point i was MAKING rather than coming in here with the " LOL ON BALL NAZI, its 5v5" BS. i have no Problem with people who go offball to make adjustments and what not. 2k messes up alot. so fair enough. the problem i have is the fact that a MAJORITY of the people online dont do that. instead they just play offball on the center the whole game. (or when they bout to lose in the 4th) and expect 2k to carry them to a W, instead of earning it themselves.

as pointed out here. the most annoying off baller (which is who this topic is directed at) are the ones who Avoid having anything to do with you once the ball hits the person they are hiding with. followed by the guy who is running around like a headless chicken.

NOT SAYING THESE GUYS CANT BE BEATEN. but i just be like, how are you enjoying this? hell i fall asleep playing MYpark/rec when i realize i dont have to do anything due to being iced out and my guy im guarding being iced out. how do people enjoy watching the tv on D?

I know Lag has been brought up alot. i dont know any of yall connection status, but i have a friend IRL(who is also one of the best 2k players i played with) who has such bad internet he cant even play games like TLOU/GTAO/ or Drive club online cause the servers wont let him on. he literally has the worse internet i seen in my life. but on 2k he can play ONBALL PERFECTLY. and he gets on people who try to use lag as a excuse for why they offball. ( and no he doesnt cause the other person to lag) of my last 20 games. i lagged only in one. and i quit out cause i couldnt do anything. in th first weeks of this game , i know it was bad. but since then its been fixed. i dont know what going on on yall sides.

and it seems like the other people here dont even play online with randoms to see what exactly is going on in most of these "off ball" games. i suggest doing do if you fit this. wait till you get the one who talks all game about his Defense and how good it is, when its really just the CPU doing the work for him. those are the also among the worse.

people keep saying join a league. we have one. and we recently encounted one of the offballers i was talking about. and we got rid of him after he played 5 games like that. (its funny cause he even did it to one of the newer 2k players in the league who was still learning the game) then had the nerves to call him trash <_<.

we watched this same person refuse to join a league made by another user cause it wasnt on superstar+, where his style of defense will be legit BS. (hense Jersey Reign Post),

Offball defense is also the reason I laugh at the sim community who want online ranked matches to be HOF Sim. I don't think they see the issue with a overrated AI opponent AND a unrealistic player just playing safety. I mean, its almost like that safety user in Madden who can run around aimlessly and chase down whomever he wants and still be able to cover his deep zone.

                              its just stupid.

There is no right or wrong way to play the game. You have 5 players, they have 5 players. You have 4 quarters, 20 minutes to find out how to beat your opponent, as they have to find out how to beat you. The better person wins, period.

                                Stop with the excuses.
