I normally don't complain about marketing but we're about 3 weeks away fromy release & have yet to get a gameplay blog. I know Mike Wang said he was working on something BIG for gameplay so I would assume it's taking a little longer than usual this cycle to tighten things up. Like many others have said, I trust 2K in good faith from putting out the best sports game on the market since 2K11 (although not without it's flaws). So in that sense I'm not concerned about them "hiding" anything or being worried about the competition (didn't realize there was competition...Oh you mean that other game that you can't even edit players in...SHOTS FIRED lol), but I would be lying if I said this isn't a little annoying being that we're so close to release. Can we at least get a Czar breakdown video? Lol

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I enjoy watching trailers and images because it's something new, and I like to see the graphics. I do care about graphics. But at this point, I just want to see the thing that is supposed to make a big difference gameplay-wise, or whatever Mike (I think) was talking about. I'd like to see it in action.
Other than that, I'm really surprised this thread has 4 pages without any gifs by a pink user. Shocking! My Specs:

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I'm not excited for 2K16. I would usually watch the hype videos on youtube and be all over Ronnie and LD2K's twitters but this year I really don't care. I did not like 2K15 very much and I'm tired of the gameplay, exploits and server issues every year. The high school and college stuff really doesn't matter to me. They could make MyCareer as simple as it was in 2K12 and I'd still play it if the gameplay is on point.Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
They could fire everyone in their marketing department and still sale this game. At this point the brand is strong enough to sale on name alone. I wonder how many people on here have even bothered trying to play Live, let alone consider buying it week 1. TBH it seems like every major sports title of this generation puts out the same slow info cycle

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I'm not sure why it's so hard for people to understand that it's not exactly good marketing to show incremental gameplay improvements in big 'event' videos. That's incredibly boring to 99% of people who will buy the game. It's expected the gameplay will improve, but how do you make an exciting video about it? You don't.
And I mean, we're decades past the years where you could say something like 'Now we have blocked shots!!'. Marketing is about new features.Comment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I'm getting the game regardless. It's the only basketball brand I trust at this point to put out a solid game.
I get mad at the exploits and servers when I play online but it's the only game that offers good overall gameplay and good online modes. Live is trying but I just dont see it being a competitor for my money just yet.
I wish they'd talk about some gameplay changes already when we're less than a month before release...and I don't understand why it takes them so long. It's not gonna negatively or positively effect them at this point; it'll only give us more information and more reason to want it now.I don't wanna be Jordan, I don't wanna be Bird or Isiah, I don't wanna be any of those guys.
I want to look in the mirror and say I did it my way.

2K16 Marketing Affect On You
I think they are more worried about the competition this year more than ever. If the other game is a viable option then 2ks market share will shrink. I think they are going to read and react to what the competition is doing. As soon as announcements are made from the competition they will mitigate their press by announcing something bigger.
They know they are in first position and they can afford to slow down the information and not have a negative effect on sales. I really miss the golden days of marketing with developer insights of 2k11 and 2k12. They had to market in 2k12 because of the NBA stoppage.
I would bet the biggest news will be dropped when Live releases the demo.
I don't understand why anyone in their position would NOT approach any competition that way. I doubt they worry about Live per se. But the baffling zealotry that goes on EA, coupled with their resources, would make anyone with half a brain pay some attention to them. No matter the actual quality of said game.
As for the marketing. I take all of it with a grain of salt. I do understand why people get trickles of information. If you get too much too soon, you don't care by the time the game is out. Of course, some of you are of a personality type that wants everything right now. Well, you're also, normally the same folks that get bored after 2 weeks of having that information. Always asking for more. Marketing to you is not a sustainable model and frankly doesn't go very far at all. No offense. For me, I don't like being teased. Just shut up
until you have real news for me. I like the bits that have been given. The ProAm reveal was good. The MyLeague diary was friggin insane. I haven't even read all of it completely. Everyone liked the Winning trailer enough with the bits included in it. So, frankly, they are doing pretty well really. If you haven't irritated me too much, that's an accomplishment. All I ask is that you don't blatantly mislead me or deflect. Taking passive aggressive shots at the competition and doctoring the hell out of screenshots don't float for me. And don't continuously drop little hints and teases on Twitter. There is less of that this year, thankfully.Last edited by Boilerbuzz; 08-31-2015, 11:51 PM.Comment

And yet just two years ago, We Have Blocked Shots (well dunks) WAS the marketing strategy.
Also Crew Is Back (but not really, like at all). :PComment

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
Gameplay is going to be more or less exactly like 2k15, unless they show something surprising and unexpected. Just watch the trailers they have put out so far and you'll see, the same spacing and boxing out issues are still there. I even saw a few players sliding aroundComment

And this has what exactly to do with marketing?

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
The effect of 2ks marketing on me? None really. I just like to laugh at all of the guys around here that are on the verge of having a full blown Britney Spears moment because of the way they do it.

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
If they would just show some improved gameplay I would already have pre ordered. I already have Black Ops 3 pre ordered and that doesn't drop til November. Unless 2K has made minimal improvement it's only having a negative affect on me.Student of the game. #Fundamentals

Re: 2K16 Marketing Affect On You
This. It is just peculiar that the cards are being held so tight by a company who sold 5+ million copies of a world class game. More questions remain unanswered than answered. We haven't seen any gameplay, don't know who is commentating or what has actually been improved? An uneducated consumer can be a dangerous proposition to 2ks bottom line. I can imagine that the game is finished... I am more annoyed than excited as well.
