Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
I think it's time to switch the '86 MJ with the '87 MJ. '86 MJ came back from an injury and had some great playoff run, but '87 MJ was just amazing. Unstoppable and just pure awesomeness for a full season.
Also, I always wondered what MJ would have been capable of had he never got injured...My Specs:

Well, this is where a "MJ Challenge Extreme", or "Retro Challenge Mode" would have been great. Imagine you need to play the entire 1986-87 season and match MJ's stats. Or any other season and match his stats/trophies/titles...or any other legend's stats.
If it was possible to have every season's full rosters (with uniforms, stadiums, signatures...you name it!) from, let's say, 1984-85 to 1997-98...now that would have been amazing!
My favorite season is 1990-91, and I would love to play the entire season with the entire correct full rosters/stadiums/uniforms...anything that makes it seem like it's the actual season. With commentary about every team/player, retro broadcast package, retro rules...anything and everything.Last edited by youvalss; 08-09-2017, 05:29 PM.My Specs:

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Yeah, I don't blame the devs, I know they can't get every old school player in the game. And it would take some development time, rights and disc space to get everything to make it work. It was more of a fantasy rather than a wish list.
I guess the only way to make it happen is to find a game from the early 90's and play it. Oh well...My Specs:

All fantasies aside, I really do think 2K's missing an open opportunity to create a fun side mode utilizing all their new 2000's teams (2000 Raptors, 2004 Pistons, 2006 Heat, etc.)
It's great they added those teams regardless but it'd be nice to give those squads some weight or a real sense of purpose.Comment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
The way I see it, basketball (or sports games) isn't an open world game. I can play some Quick Games with whatever team, but I'm not going to play 82 Quick Games. I need a purpose, and I usually play a season with a team I like (I don't go all the way and play any of the GM modes...since I already have a job).
I love open world games, especially the AAA ones like GTA and Watch Dogs. In this games I can wander around, mess with NPCs/police/gangs, collect some things, take photos, do some side activities etc. - all of this without actually playing the game (AKA the main story missions).
I can't do this with basketball games. I need a purpose, which is why I said that I could play a few games with this or that old-school team, but if there is no purpose, if there is no some sort of "campaign", if you will, I just lose interest.
Unfortunately, I don't know if there is any old-school mode where you are actually trying to achieve something. Hopefully I'm wrong. My Specs:

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Dave, I remember you were very disappointed with either 2K16 or 2K17, and you rushed to trade it in quickly.
I actually never bought 2K16 or 2K17, it just wasn't a priority any more. For some reason, I had stopped playing basketball games, and didn't feel like it for a while. But I recently got myself back into it, so I've been playing a lot of 2K14 and 2K15. Now mostly playing 2K14, which is a fun game.
I may get 2K16 at some point, might skip 2K17 (not because of the issues guys on these forums have noted, I don't ever discover 5% of the issues since I just play to enjoy a bit, not to make it my second job). When 2K18 becomes cheaper I will probably buy it.
But in order for me to enjoy legends, I need 2 things:
1) Accuracy - looks, body types, accessories and signature animations.
2) I don't care for playing with a 1992 team vs a 2001 team. I only feel like playing with legends if there is a full roster of every team from a specific season (preferably, the early 90's). I can play a game or two of teams from different years, but I get bored with it after a little while.
It was 2k17 that I promptly returned. I loved the cyberface improvements, but when I saw they had removed the signature dribbles from the game and migrated onto 'stick wiggling' To pull off pretty generic stuff, I lost interest. Despite the dribbles being canned animations in 2K16, I always felt I could make the legends stand out from one another with the massive selection we had. Pulling off a crossover with Tim Hardaway felt vastly different from Alan Iverson - I just didn't see that in 2k17 and felt the game took a step backwards.
Not to mention another year had passed and none of the legends had received any signature treatment. Zero sig celebrations, mannerisms or shots to any of them aside from the ever present after dunk scream from MJ (Ala the dunk over Zo moment)
I've been merrily playing season after season with Jordan's Bulls against current teams in 2k16 - Can't see this year being any different unfortunately.
Best way to go, is the Ultimate Base Roster on PC - that is the MOTHER LOAD of ALL retro rosters, and it's almost 100% accurate too.-----------------------------------------

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Dave, 2k16 was incredible for my 96 bulls vs today's nba. Those Jordan like signatures and triangle offense were amazing.
Whats that Pc ultimate base roster, 2k16, 2k17 or 2k14? I've been thinking very long whether to get a Pc version just for the legends.
I tried 2k17 classic bulls for awhile, i didnt like the classic chicago bulls court when playing home games in myleague mode. They are sinply too dark, and i was lazy to sub the classic players one by one into today bulls roster :P

The Ultimate Base Roster started in 2k11 and is currently being run on 2k14 - I've got it myself but rarely play on my PC. It really is a masterpiece though, just about every retro team you can think of, all with accurate cyberfaces, courts and uniforms - it's a thing of beauty.
This! This! This! This! why 2k even pay attention to classic team when they cant even perfected the current players. you people play classic in exhibition games should be thankful and move along. instead of asking so many things. what are trying to achieve?? what is the purpose and the goal?? if your answer is just to relieve it then NO!-----------------------------------------

What I meant, was that 2K needs to do something with classic teams rather than just throw them in there. That's not to say that if there isn't any classic mode, that we don't need these teams. It's sure nice to have them, the more the better.
I'm just saying that for me, personally, it's hard to play quick games with these teams if it's not tied into trying to achieve something. Unlike some here, I don't enjoy playing a season with an old-school team vs today's teams. It's just not something I can enjoy, to each their own. Which is why, the way things are, only complete rosters of a season from 25 or so years ago, would make me want to play a full season. And that's something some of the guys here can create, but 2K apparently would not.
As I've said before, I realize classic teams are no longer a feature that appears on the back of the box, and not a focal point, which is probably why there isn't a real mode for the classic teams. My Specs:
