Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
I'm not sure they are going to correct all the errors at this point. They make some changes for this and that every year, but since it's no longer an important feature (as it was on last gen), I wouldn't expect too much.
Dave, expect the worse...that's the only way you might have a nice surprise.
Dave, keep fighting the good fight!
EDIT: I'm not sure what the Shaq covers mean for this, but I would be very surprised if they put effort into the old-school players. It's like they just add a few names into the mix and just throw this into the game. The attention hasn't been there in years. I don't expect anything different this year, unfortunately. Would love to be wrong.Comment

Maybe some day 2K can go 25 years back in time and steal the player-likeness technology from Michael Jordan in Flight. My Specs:

It might come down to a time management thing. With the upgrades made to faces, body types, jerseys, accessories, etc I'm hoping there was enough time to do work on legends.Comment

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Certainly possible . 2k17 had 45 legend teams. If 2k had atleast 10 legends for each team that's an additional 450 face scans needed on top of the 500+ current players..I wish 2k could farm out legends to the pc modding community to cut down on 2k studio's workload..EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.Comment

I remember that all too well. I wouldn't be surprised if someone thought the intro to 2K12 was a sample of Bow Wow's song. You gotta have appreciation of the past--especially when that past "bum" changed the way the game was played then and influenced the way it's played now.Comment

Totally agree though, best to expect the worst, saves me from crying into my Jordan jersey on release day.-----------------------------------------

Re: Will MJ actually look like MJ this year?
Dave, I remember you were very disappointed with either 2K16 or 2K17, and you rushed to trade it in quickly.
I actually never bought 2K16 or 2K17, it just wasn't a priority any more. For some reason, I had stopped playing basketball games, and didn't feel like it for a while. But I recently got myself back into it, so I've been playing a lot of 2K14 and 2K15. Now mostly playing 2K14, which is a fun game.
I may get 2K16 at some point, might skip 2K17 (not because of the issues guys on these forums have noted, I don't ever discover 5% of the issues since I just play to enjoy a bit, not to make it my second job). When 2K18 becomes cheaper I will probably buy it.
But in order for me to enjoy legends, I need 2 things:
1) Accuracy - looks, body types, accessories and signature animations.
2) I don't care for playing with a 1992 team vs a 2001 team. I only feel like playing with legends if there is a full roster of every team from a specific season (preferably, the early 90's). I can play a game or two of teams from different years, but I get bored with it after a little while. My Specs:

That said, one thing that really helped keep things fresh was a mode of some sort devoted to the classics, based in reality. The Jordan Challenge in 2K11 was obviously the top of mountain in that regard. Jordan even had signature animations for specific games (he'd shrug in the Portland game once he hit his sixth three of the half, he'd slump over in the flu game) while announcers recorded accurate lines from the time (referring to his weight lifting accident prior to the contest).
2K12's Greatest mode was right up there. Era filters, unique era rules, different scorers tables and basket stanchions. Those modes were a great compliment to the standard quick game matchups.
I don't know if 2K would need to create another classics mode—though I'd love it—but I would like at least something that'd encourage or reward players for using those teams. I always thought NFL 2K5's Trophy Room would have been stellar in NBA form. It was a great easy way to promote replayability.
I think it'd be great if 2K had an extensive trophy case for general milestones (Hit 10 3's in a single game) but also individual trophies (a la 2K5) for each team as well (Score 25 in a quarter with Isiah Thomas on the 1989 Pistons, block seven shots with Dikembe Mutombo against the Seattle Supersonics, etc.). Then maybe there could be an achievement or unlockable for earning all trophies in a specific category.
