I agree with that. I'm just glad he rotates over at all. It definitely needs some work, but I like knowing that my CPU defense will at least try to stop player running wide open down the lane.

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
I'm not clear why you WOULDN'T want it on, all the time. In that last example posted, there's no coach in the world that would want you to leave Olynyk unaccounted for standing in front of the rim. Or anyone else for that matter.
This is why I usually control a baseline defender on the weak side who is off the ball, so I can make the rotations that my AI teammates are too dumb to make...Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
I like to pre rotate. Especially on the guys that like to run pick and roll all night long. It makes them think about making the pass to the extra layer outside.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
I hadn't touched pre-roll until seeing this thread. The help is way late, but it's better than what I was getting before. Nothing. I'm going to try turning it on for everyone.
But yeah, hopefully 2K works on help D in the next patch.
I also hadn't tried doubling on drives. The CPU blows by me too easily, too often. Way too many points in the paint. I'm OK when they use size ups and such. It's the quick 1st step that kills me.
Question re: force baseline/middle. Is this of any use if you play on-ball D exclusively? I really hadn't bothered since I manually force towards where I see I can get help.Shout out to The Watcher! Where you at bruh?Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
So you wouldn't want to pre-rotate too much off of a shooter. I can go through and break down my logic when it comes to setting these sliders pre-game
On Ball Pressure
Gap: Non threat, Non Shooter (Tony Allen)
Moderate: Decent shooter, or vs someone that can blow by you (Andre Iguadola)
Tight: Good shooter that you can also stay in front of. (Klay Thompson)
Smother: Good shooter but I only use this vs. someone that can't really handle the ball. If you smother Kyrie, you will get burned. (Kyle Korver)
Off Ball Pressure : Be careful here because you also have to think about preventing offensive rebounding.
Gap: Non threat, Non Shooter (Tony Allen)
Moderate: Decent shooter (Eric Bledsoe); Non-threats but are good rebounders.
Tight: vs. Good shooters (Kyle Korver); You can also use this vs. great rebounders but you probably would want to help off of him so use at your discretion.
Smother: Use this when you are playing a great offensive threat. But be careful because you might give up backdoor cuts.
Force Direction
I force everything to the baseline. Point blank, I don't want to give up any middle penetration.
On-Ball Screen and Off-Ball Screen You really only need to use this vs. people that will be the ball-handler in a PnR situation. So don't worry about setting this vs. Dwight
Go Over: Shooter
Go Under: Non-Shooter
Switch: I use vs vs. non-offensive threats. I also use this for people that won't really blow by my non-center bigs. You have to think about your 1-4 and their ability to stay in front of the player you are setting it up for.
Ice: Use this when you want the on-ball DEFENDER to force the ball-handler away from the screen. I would only use this when the on-ball defender is a strong defender. I wish this could be situational because I would only want to use this on the sideline pNr situations.
Hedge
No-Hedge: Use this vs. an absolute non-threat perimeter player (Tony Allen)
Soft Hedge: I would use this against someone that isn't going to KILL you and won't probably look to score most of the time once they turn the corner. (PJ Tucker)
Hard Hedge: If you know this dude is going to turn that corner and look to score, use the hard hedge. (Bledsoe)
Double: Now, if this player can turn the corner and attack AND he has the ability to look for others out of the PnR situation, I would double him. (LeBron)
Hedge (Center)
See the hedge section above, but you need to know who your center is. Depends on his footspeed (quickness) and on-ball defense IQ
Soft: Non-athlete vs a scorer
Hard: Athletic vs a scorer
No-Hedge: Non-athlete vs. a non offensive threat
Double: Use at your judgement, but if your Center is too slow, he might struggle even getting into doubling position in time. You might get split honestly.
Post
Front: If I front a player, I am doubling from the weakside. If I am getting killed by a player in the post, I will front him. I don't usually START off fronting anyone
Behind: If I am playing a non-post threat, I always play behind because I am not worried about them honestly.
3/4 Top: If I am playing against a post threat, I will start off with this. Again, this ties into my theory of forcing everything baseline. This shades your offensive player to the baseline.
3/4 Bottom: If you want to shade the player to the middle of the court (where your help can be sent) you can use this option. I sometimes trick people I play by putting this setting on a BAD post player so they can think they see an advantage. Again, use with discretion.

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
How does the "hedge" setting work? Is it in relation to who is setting the ballscreen or who is receiving it
Meaning, when I go to Reggie Jackson's defensive settings will the hedge setting kick off when he receives the screen or does it activate when he sets it?Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
Lately I have been doing.
On Ball Tight.
I put every one on Middle.
Off Ball, I Gap everyone.
Double Team, Perimeter, everyone, auto, on drive.
Soft Hedge.
Go Over.
And Defensive POE is on Limit Perimeter Shots.
The reason why I do this is because I don't see any other way for CPU to close out and yet help on drives. It's either one or the other with them.
So this is like the Miami Heat Big 3 defense. Force the jumpshot in the middle of the floor, close out on shooters, help on drives.Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
One thing that personally irks me is that guiding people to the baseline is useless, since in the game the baseline is guarded by a sort of forcefield. Meaning it is not really and additional defender.Last edited by Whomario; 11-10-2015, 02:58 PM.Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
The bolded part it is. You decide who your players are going to play tight or loose when they handle the ball in the Screen and Roll action. That´s why there is a setting for 1-4 and the Center has a separate setting (with the fact in mind that most centers are slower-footed) to give you some little bit of a safety net to avoid your center being trapped out in no mans land.Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
We need to request they change this next season. It means that you are ignoring the strategy that works best with specific ballscreeners. We shouldn't be forced to defend a Ryan Anderson ballscreen the same way we would an Anthony Davis ballscreen just because Davis is lined up at PF.
Offball adjustment to these guys like Deny Ryan or tight on Davis or moderate whatever you wanna do handles that already

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
Regardless, in real life a team playing the Mavericks would NOT Ice/Down when Dirk Nowitzki is the ballscreener but definitely would against Dwight Powell. We should be able to replicate that.Comment

Re: How do you guys use defensive settings?
Has anyone been able to get "switch" on P&R to work right? I've been trying to use it as a strategy but the weak side defender keeps leaving his man and diving into the paint as if I've been beaten off the screen everytime I switch off. Pre rotate is not on.
