Salary cap and player salaries in MyLeague and MyGM

Was wondering if any of you guys had the chance to sim a couple years into MyLeague and MyGM to see what was happening with the salary cap and the player salaries into the future.

I ran one simulation last night and noticed that a lot of teams are not spending nearly enough as they should be.

In year 1, 27 of the 30 teams are within 10 million dollars of their salary cap.

In year 2, only half of the teams are within this range, where a good chunk of teams are sitting on as much as 25 million in cap room.

Years 3 and 4 are similar to year 2. From what I've observed, a lot of players rated in the low 80's are not asking for enough money in free-agency, which causes a lot of teams to stockpile a bunch of cash since they have nowhere to spend it.

For example in year 1, Nicolas Batum (77 ovr) is at the end of his 13 million dollar contract. Once he hits free-agency in the game, he asks merely for 6 or 7 million per year, yet he is at the peak of his career. Why would he ask for half of his previous salary?

Another example is Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who is making 13 million/year. At his overall rating (78 ovr), he would never be asking for that kind of money in the game. He'd likely be asking 6 or 7 million/year like Batum.

Any of you have thoughts on how to fix this? For MyLeague, I was thinking of increasing the quality of the draft classes to increase the amount of highly rated players.

If you don't want to affect league balance significantly, the easiest route seems like keeping the salary cap at a lower level.

You sacrifice some realism, but the alternative is editing about half of the FA contracts each off season, or rating inflation methods.

Well thats a bummer...one of the main reasons I made the jump to ps4 from ps3 this year was of how bad that problem was last gen, hoping they would have it improved.

This has been discussed in the sliders thread. But the reason salaries are slow are because overall is too heavily factored into contract negotiations.

Yea it seems the new player rating system is effecting the old signing system where a 77 overall player wouldn't normally get paid a lot, so since more then half the league is in that lower range of rating then the number of high contracts will be a lot lower then it use to be.

So if I understand this correctly, it would be beneficial to lower the salary cap inflation rate in the MyLeague settings?

Same thing that happened last year, there's no logic built in that makes teams and players react to an increased salary cap.

Just do 30 team control and make the deals yourself I guess.

This is something they have to fix with the first patch. It seems like a pretty big oversight to have the cap increase realistically but not have the player contracts also increase with it...

We moved a lot of the franchise tunables to the server, so it's possible that we can tweak this before Patch 3 (sometime in November usually). But, Tim is the guy that does this particular thing and he's currently on vacation -- and neither Leftos or myself want to touch with this a 100-foot pole because the economy and financial stuff is extremely complex.

This is what was said in another thread by 2k producer about the issue.

I just asked about this in the MyLeague thread today. I'm interested in what others are doing.

For example: Four games into my season Jeff Green is open to resigning for 2 years at 4 million per year. He currently is making 9m. I guess I could kind of look at it as his career has been somewhat disappointing so he is giving a discount. However, if you look at it like that and then consider the up-coming salary inflation I'm sure that he's worth more than 4m per year.

The question is how much more? And how do I handle the rest of the league? Should I go around the league and add x amount per year to each resigning? Should I just put re-signings on Manual and hope that a fix happens sooner than later?

FYI: I did turn the salary inflation rate down just a two or three clicks before I started because I don't want it to be too high.

Honestly, adding the ability for the cap to go up, while cool, is something that is probably not needed in a video game and would make it about 1000x easier for the guy coding this to make it work correctly.

What do I care if the cap goes up? Just set it a a certain amount and do contracts off that.

It's cool that they have it, but seeing the problems that it brings makes me think we could just do without.

They also are trying to fix an issue that happens when you turn the Salary Cap completely off. Guys apparently are asking for $600 mil a year.

I guess right now until they fix it, the people who are all about this part of your game being realistic need to either stop caring about what other guys are signing for (for the time being), or do 30 team control and adjust each and every salary yourself.

I'm pretty sure you can turn the Cap so that the inflation rate is at 0, right? So I don't see why we can't just have it and those that don't want it can set it to 0.

The problem is, even with the cap inflation rate at 0, teams still have a massive surplus of money after the 1st offseason and that surplus persists through time. In theory teams should be having bidding wars for the free-agents that are available, but they merely make 1 offer that is roughly the same as what the player is asking for.

The player should be asking for a salary similar to that of a similarly skilled NBA player (overall). This would work since the current contracts in the game reflect properly calibrated salaries for the salary cap that's in place.

I did a new 30 team control MyLeague and will do the contracts myself. I automated everything else.
