That's a possibility as they have added legends before after release...
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Because that's how you get sued. NCAA football has proven this.

Yeah, I think it was easier to get away with this type of thing before the Ed O'Bannon situation. NFL 2K5 used to do it and NHL 2K used to have tons of classic teams as well. NHL actually used to have generic names & faces but each jersey number was code for which player was being represented (something like all 8's were actually 2's and all 4's were actually 5's, so #84 on the '97 Red Wings was actually supposed to be #25, aka Darren McCarty).

Anyway, once the O'Bannon lawsuit sprung about (big time court case claiming the NCAA was using players' likenesses without compensation, even if it was just a bald and generic No. 31 forward on '95 UCLA), every game abandoned ship on the whole classic teams thing, unless they were actually able to secure the rights of the players.

That's why I have to continue to give props to NBA 2K. What other sports game has classic teams right now? And with real players, no less. Of course, that doesn't mean they can slap together a Zombie Dumars and I'm just going to eat it up. But I'm thankful we at least have classic teams to critique and push to improve.

Just confirmed with someone that got the game early. No Nash.

              Well that's that then.

Can't wait to play pick n roll with Amare annnnnd...........erm.........Barbosa.

Honestly, as much as I love the classic teams, there's zero point having the Blazers, Suns, Mavs and Pistons without the star players. That's like throwing in the Bulls without Michael Jordan or Pippen. Or having the Sonics without Payton & Kemp.

2k could remove them and replace with classic teams they know they can get the rights to, with all players included.

At worst, remove the teams that aren't complete and have a legends free agent pool - we could've kept half the 02 Kings roster and this years 85 Sixers, not to mention add the legends from myteam so we'd have an option to use players like Kidd and Grant Hill.......

Personally, I still want those players in there like Marion and Amare. I'd be fine with a legends pool solution.

Nash obviously has every right to say no, but I'll just never understand it. I'd take whatever they give me and call it good.

Its probably a principle thing if they dont get their asking price, but I would think its such easy money....you literally dont have to do anything...

Their wallets and decision at the end of the day though

Been emailing 2K for the past 2 years about cimply making a legends pool next to the free agents pool and to make it possible to edit their ages etc again. Hopefully it is something they can do next year.

Yeah for sure. I know it's easy to say since I'm not in that position, but I seriously would probably be the Players Association's worst nightmare because I wouldn't negotiate anything. I don't need a lot of money to be happy.

                        But again, their decision.

Their likeness is worth money because they've already done something very difficult for decades. You put that much blood and sweat into something and you won't be so quick to let others use your hard work to make money for themselves.

Again, if this was some sort of non profit charity then that would be different but 2K is in the business of making money from the likenesses and intellectual property of the NBA. That's literally their job. If someone is making money off of me I know I want a cut no matter how much "work" I have to do for it.

I don't know... I still feel it's worth it for them. There obviously a demand. They have made Millions and are sitting on millions. This seems more like their agent isn't letting this happen. What person who's played basketball video games and the sport doesn't want to be in a video game.

I'm truly heart broken. I guess I'll be playing 2k16 a little long before 17.

I Was vilified in another thread for having similar opinions, heh.

I'm not an athlete nor in their financial position but if I was and 2k came to me offering any kind of cash for just the use of my likeness for a video game, I wouldn't even question it, personally. I'd already have made my ton. Give me the easy money, all day, every day. I'd still be making coin no matter what way you look at it.

Little Suns vs Wolves action below.....Stopped my Bulls season just to get some games in with Phoenix after I heard the news - was actually really hard to go back to a run and gun team after playing so long with the Triangle in Chicago!

Not having him changes my entire legends MyLeague. It will still be fun, but the Suns had a really nice team with him. Nash-Booker-Marion-Amare-Chandler with a nice bench.

Then I could put Bledsoe on another team but this changes everything. We should all Tweet at Nash.
