After the first weekend with plenty of playing time, I must admit I'm a fan of how the game plays. The new rebounding system really feels good after boxing a player out, also the user input on layups is also satisfying too. Albeit with all the positives there are still a couple of glaring negatives I wish 2K could iron out. Passing still feels very sluggish and "floaty" if it was easy to fix I guess they would've done so already. Transition offence is terribad! even when set to "run on fastbreak" players don't react at all to pushing the ball up the court. If these two items could be corrected I'd be in BBall heaven when it game to digital entertainment.

I think we all need to give ourselves time to adjust to the game feel and controls. We can't be so quick to judge when we haven't even been playing for a week. But I will say this about the game.
I am loving the mid range pull up game! I feel that the moving off the dribble shots are much better because of players having the off the dribble mid range rating. In the past I would always have to stop and get my feet set but now the game rewards you for the off the dribble pull ups on the move.
Now I can really really do work online with smaller guards.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
This is an issue for me as well. Your cpu teammates get caught on every screen, get cut on way too easy, and loose there way too frequently in transition. The overall gameplay I like and am coming to grips with, but our cpu teammates defense needs some solid work via a patch.
The more i play this game the more i'm really starting to dislike it. I'm having all kinds of trouble playing D. Not so much on ball, but team D.
The CPU is making wayyyyy too many mistakes giving up wide open layups and 3's, things the user often has no control over. A player grazes a screen and gets taken completely out of the play. It's complete nonsense and game breaking for me. It's just not realistic to make those big of mistakes on court.
Lakers are shooting 57 percent right now against me. I'm playing good D then boom! Someone gets lost and gives up a 3 or a layup. Down 22 right now and it feels like i had nothing to do with itComment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
Does anyone else have both versions of the game, PS4 and X1? I played around 4 games on each system over the weekend, and they play quite a bit different. After noticing it, I went and played a game with each variable the same (time, roster, uniforms, home & away teams, sliders) .
It'd tough going back and forth between the versions, and not because of the controller. The ps4 version plays quite a bit faster, and more frantic which exaggerates the suctioning and sliding out of place. I noticed it in each of the games I played. The game looks better on the ps4. Colors are definitely more saturated, and the players, crowd etc appear to be much sharper. But on the court, the x1 version plays a more settled game. I'm assuming that it's the speed that's causing it. I saw a lot of the legacy player shifting/rotating out of the play on the ps4, which I rarely see on the x1. It's very interesting to say the least. I may try to fool around with the speed and quickness on the ps4. I'd much rather play on ps4 due to the ease of sharing, but I'm enjoying the game on x1 currently.
I talked to another of my friends this morning, and they said they saw it as well. He picked it up early on the ps4, and had a digital pre-order for x1, so hes had quite a bit of time with the ps4 version. He said after playing the x1 version, he may sell his ps4 copy.
It's very peculiar no doubt. I was just wondering if any of you have saw it?Twitter - WTF_OS

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I only had a short time with the game this weekend, but my initial impressions are:
Pros:
- Love the new rebounding. The physicality, players tipping the ball to themselves, and my favorite part being able to go back up for your own offensive rebound/tip.
- Pull ups are a thing of beauty both for the HUM and AI.
- The game feels much more fluid this year. I'm able to occasionally beat someone off of the dribble and get to the rim. I don't feel like I'm constantly sucked into long animations like I have in the past.
- Players speed seems to make a huge difference. 2k seems to improve on this every year, but I can really tell the difference in fast players beating slow players down the court this year. In one of my practice games I was using Houston vs Sacramento and WCS (85 speed, 68 acceleration) was constantly beating Ryno (40 speed, 38 accl) down the court. Even when i manually used Ryno and turboed all of the way down the court I couldn't keep up with WCS.
- Players faces and arena lighting seem better than ever.
- One of my favorite low key additions. They finally increased the font in the player menus this year. I have good eye sight and since 2K14 I could barely read them on a 50 inch TV
Cons:
- Many player models have taken a step back. Bodies really need an improvement.
- Both crowd and the new arena audio leave a lot to be desired.
- There's still some transition issues. Players guarding another position don't recognize unguarded open players when the offense player beats their defender down court and that leads to a lot of open baskets. See the WCS/Ryno Pro above. I like that speed makes a difference, but don't like that other players don't see help on WCS before Ryno can get in position.
- The AI didn't pull out Boggie in the 3rd Quarter when he picked up his 5th foul. I'm hoping it was because I was playing six minute quarters. My 2K17 Boston Celtics MyLeague

I also like to add the commentary is dope how they switch up the announcers. It's like real life how you have different announcers in different games.
Madden decided to update their commentary every week, which is also dope. Just added that sidenote, if 2K wants to add that to their game too.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
In 2k15, your guys went into a slooow animation when going up to dunk. Last year it improved, but sometimes your guys sped up and was almost too fast. This year, it's back to being too slow on many occasions.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
One thing I like is how teams with huge salary obligations value high level draft picks in years where big free agents are hitting the market. In my 2nd year of MyLeague I had the number 6 pick with a very solid draft class and the Cavs offered Love and Fry for it. (And I have my trade difficulty slider at 65)
Hell yeah.
Then I see that the Cavs throw all of their money at Steph & Westbrook hoping to land one in free agency (They didn't get either). It was great. They had a great draft pick at the 4, a ton of cap space, and still have LeBron (though I had to edit his contract to match real life) and Irving as their core.
They freed up a bunch of cap space then went after some free agents to feel the void. It was nice to see.Comment

Re: Fouls: You're right and the same thing happens in 12 min quarters. It seems fouls only matter in the first half when it comes to pulling players for the CPU.Last edited by de_jesus; 09-19-2016, 12:06 PM.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
First year in ages I've been this disappointed with a 2k game.
I've only put in about 12 hours play and just couldn't find myself at any point enjoying the game.
There were some positives, sure. The game felt smooth, nice animations and flow, rebounding was great and the broadcast improvements with the new commentary teams were sweet.
That's kind of where it ends for me though. The legends, despite a few getting a graphical update (Which was welcomed) have been nerfed - we lost several players and in one case, an entire team. Jordan continues to lose signature elements EVERY year now, from pump fakes, to specific shots (The Move) to not even having his tongue present anymore......
Dribbling has lost it's individuality for me, by removing last years signature size ups and replacing them with manual stick flicking. I feel the players all seem to have the same generic looking crosses, behind the backs etc now. After playing with several top tier guards, they all felt the same, and I'm not too shabby on the sticks, either.
The shot stick and angle/timing element - Urgh. For someone who turns all of the 'meters' off I find the game is almost forcing you to have them on, just so you know if you're on point or not. I don't want to have to spend all my time looking at mini game meters in order to get shots off accurately. The shooting mechanics were fine the way they were.
The in game menus for plays and subs - Jesus. What a mess. For something that's supposed to be streamlined, damn it's cumbersome and clunky looking. Not impressed at all.
Overall, I'd give the game about a 6, based on the few positives.
I know I am totally in the minority here with this impression, and I'm cool with that - this isn't a post to ignite anger for those who love it - I'm glad you got the game you wanted.
For me, I'll be sticking with 2k16 for the foreseeable, as I find it much more enjoyable.-----------------------------------------

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
On ball defense by the cpu needs to be toned way down. You can't get past the defenders in this game. I can't drive to the basket in this game because I'm constantly getting bumped and the cpu can just recover back in front of you after you have a step on them. The dribbling is useless in this game. Cpu doesn't fall for anything. 2k16 was hard but not impossible to blow by defenders but this game is impossible. I hate the layup meter also.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 Impressions Thread
I'm still trying to master the dribble moves tho. But if I'm trying to drive and get bumped/stopped in my tracks, there should be more fouls.Comment

I felt the same when I first started the game but after working at it I think the defense is fine, but the dribble moves have to be used to create space or get the defense to commit to an action or use the PnR to get a mismatch. If you can get the defender to plant his feet or turn his hips you will beat him every single time. Spamming crossovers (and I'm not suggesting you do this) will not be enough. Especially for high level defenders like Leonard, George, James, Green, etc. These guys are objectively hard to beat and they should be.
Disclaimer: I have no idea how to embed videos on this site.
Here are a few videos that helped me understand how to get a defender off-balance:
For example in this video the 4 min mark is the best example of what I'm saying. You'll see Irving hesitate which makes the defender commit to Irving going left (his right). As soon as he plants his foot Sam Pham crosses him the hell over because the defender can't recover fast enough.
Here is another vid that is very helpful as well.
Each player has a different package and not everyone is a good dribbler so you have to find out what works best. For example, I play with the Lakers. I can't really cross a good defender over with Russell or Ingram but if I can get the defender to fight over a screen a between the legs dribble is fast enough to free me up for a good look. Whereas Rose plays like he just consumed a mountain of cocaine.Comment
